The Amazing Spider-Man Quips, Wise-Cracking and Banter!

My point still stands, your experiment is fundamentally flawed, so thus the results are called into question. Was the writing of Batman: The Animated Series aimed at younger ages because the demographics for viewership would probably consist mostly of kids and Batman fans? The same applies to The Spectacular Spider-Man.

Seriously?

The answer is yes, which is my point. The writing is absolutely aimed towards kids and I do not want the writing of the film to be aimed towards kids. That has been my point this entire time.

How can you judge the writing to be aimed exclusively at kids if you have yet to watch an entire episode?
Furthermore, the writing for the movies is aimed at all ages, from kids to adults.

Dude, I've seen an episode. I've seen clips of episodes. You don't need to watch an entire season of the show to understand what the target audience is.

From the wikipedia page of cartoon:

While "animation" designates any style of illustrated images seen in rapid succession to give the impression of movement, the word "cartoon" is most often used in reference to TV programs and short films for children featuring anthropomorphized animals, superheroes, the adventures of child protagonists and related genres.

Cartoons are made for children, no matter how much you try to dance around the fact.

I'll concede that The Spectacular Spider-Man is meant to be watched by children, but I disagree that Spider-Man's quipping should be done away with for all battles with a major villain.

Spider-Man can have different purposes for quipping, from mocking the villain to simply getting the villain's attention. If the villain takes a hostage, then it would make sense for Spidey to stop quipping. But I would rather not have Spider-Man spare certain villains from mockery just because they're popular to the audience whose existence he is completely unaware of.

There were no real guns in the show. Just take that into account...

Precisely and this is a film in which Spider-Man is going to be wanted by the NYPD. I can see it now:

"lol you want to arrest me? better make a joke!"

Like I said, quipping is absolutely welcomed at certain points of the film. My heart was filled with joy when I heard about the scene with the carjacker. I love that stuff. When Spidey knows without a doubt that he'' very easily take care of something, I don't mind at all if he ****s on them. In fact I encourage it. But I don't want him being a wise ass when there are things like other people's lives at stake. It's just not needed. We don't need to lighten the mood of a PG-13 movie in the same way we do with a children's television show.

Actually, in The Spectacular Spider-Man he does stop quipping when the villain has a hostage, such as when he was trying to rescue Gwen while he was fighting Venom. He resumes quipping after Gwen gets to safety. I think that that would work.

Nope. That would totally detract from the gravity of the situation.

Spidey: "Oh, you're putting the lives of my friends and classmates in danger? lol better make fun of you!"

No thanks.

No offense, but how big of a Spidey fan are you? That's one of his biggest character traits is that he almost always tries to fit a joke into the situation. It helps Peter relieve the tension of the situation and it can even distract the villain. Sure, it might not work for Lizard. But it'd work on Doc Ock or Sandman for instance.

I'm not saying he should wisecrack during the final battle. But the jokes NEED to be in the movie. It was one of the biggest problems with the Rami movies.

Agreed!

How big of a Spidey fan am I? Because the 2,000 Spider-Man related posts I've made in the span of 4 months wasn't a big enough indication

I've already stated that the quipping and wise cracking works beautifully in the setting and context of comics and television shows. It can also work beautifully in certain point of the cinematic context, but not during major villain battle sequences. I've already stated that they should be in the movie. Even at a point against the Lizard, but once he gets a few jabs in on him, it should be left alone. Jokes also work in television and comics because the villains have a chance to reappear and develop. In film, it's one and done. If the hero treats the villain like a joke, then the villain will be seen as a joke. No thank you. It just doesn't work in the context of a 2 hour cinematic piece. It just doesn't. Just because I can rationally and logically come to that conclusion does not mean you have to question my fanaticism for the character.

Come on guys this is a friendly Neighborhood Super Hero Hype. No fighting!!

Oh My bad :P
wasn't one for paying attention to detail!

Since quipping has already been confirmed, I'm pleased. As far as quipping in relation to the stakes of a situation goes, I dunno. I could see quipping in a big battle being handled properly. I think of it in the terms of the fight Spidey had with Kingpin where he pulls out the cue cards, but eventually starts making more serious statements during the ensuing fight.

Mind you, there's not much you could say as a serious criticism toward a giant lizard, but still. (Unless they go for the Lizard with a brain.)

Also, mostly for my own benefit, I composed a list of the quips I remembered from the Raimi trilogy. (Note: 'Quip' here defined as a 'snappy statement,' more so than a witty comeback.)

'That's a cute outfit. Did your husband make it for you?'

'Hey, kiddo. Let mom and dad talk for a little while, will ya?'

'You have a knack for getting into trouble!'

'It's you who's out, Gobby. Out of your mind.'

'Here's your change!'

'Oh, you know, work out. Eat your green vegetables.'

'I have a knack for that.' (in response to Ock)

'Look at little Goblin, Jr...you gonna cry?'

'You must not have heard. I'm the sheriff around these parts.'

Wasn't there 2 set videos showing Spidey's fun side?

One where he's slapping the thug and another where he has his arms up (the police one) where he runs up to the police officer and gets real close to him? lol

I think they showed those clips during Comic-con.

Man, I really want to see that Spidey/ Carjacker stuff. It sounds so good.

Really? Thought that was just the scene between the thug and Spidey.

It might have only been that one. I never saw the footage but I thought I read somewhere those other clips were in there too. It's been so long since any news has come out my mind is starting to melt.

That Thug scene seems hilarious, just what I've been looking for!

So many of the people that saw the footage at CC raved about the wise-cracking Spidey is back...it musta been awesome.

My look at these:

Terrible
'You have a knack for getting into trouble!'

'It's you who's out, Gobby. Out of your mind.'

Good

'Oh, you know, work out. Eat your green vegetables.'

Poor Execution
'Look at little Goblin, Jr...you gonna cry?'

'You must not have heard. I'm the sheriff around these parts.'

It's kind of upsetting how over the course of three films this is all we got.
