I think I enjoyed the Rogue One prequel novel Catalyst more than Rogue One. Kind of bummed about that.

In Rogue One, I liked a lot of the cinematography and planets/locations and aliens quite a bit, more than TFA even. And hey look a space battle (which was featured in marketing materials).

What didn't I love or like? So much else. The first act is disjointed skipping around to quickly set everything up, the last act drags (it does) and ends

in annihilation as every single new major character in the movie dies. They wash this down with the 'Member berries of Darth Vader and Princess Leia but I wasn't feeling it.

The Jyn character was pretty one note: father father father father father father father father father father. Then later she sort oddly
turns into a pep talk specialist in between the father talk.

I liked this a lot better than Catalyst. But, with that said Catalyst adds A LOT into this film. Put together it's almost a Shakespearean tragedy in nature.

I think it's ridiculous for you to not only insinuate that I'm not genuine in my comments, but that I didn't even see the movie. I've got my ticket stub, my Rogue One popcorn tin. You believe whatever you want, but what would I gain by lying?

Hell, you could call all of the 10/10 troll reviews. I could see someone giving this film as high as a 6/10, but I personally just can't score it that high. This film had serious foundational flaws, not just an occasional misstep. Again, this just comes down personal taste, not only in what people like in their movies but how they rate them. Numbering on a scale of 1 to 10 just doesn't capture what a movie is. I don't much care for using it myself, but it works in giving a general gist of how one feels about a film.

I was wary about the reshoots, but now having watched the trailers (I don't watch any for films I plan on seeing) it's clear this was always going to be a bad movie. Sure, they may have changed the ending a good deal, but most of what was in that first trailer is still in the movie.

I thought it was AMAZING! The characters were terrific, the action was amazing, and the plot was connected perfectly into the saga. And unlike what happened with TFA, I don't think my opinion will be decreasing as the time goes on.

I liked it, I didn't love it. Better than the prequels, but I wouldn't stack it up against the original trilogy or The Force Awakens.

I didn't really feel much connection to any of the characters besides K-2 and Chirrut. It was still kind of a bummer to watch them all die at the end, but none of them really hit home emotionally. I still appreciated how dark it was. This was definitely the darkest Star Wars movie, I'd say even more so than Revenge of the Sith, and certainly darker than Empire. The end battle really elevated the film a lot, but of course the scene that made the movie for me was Vader's killing spree. I'll also add that the CGI Tarkin and Leia as well as the digitally inserted Red and Gold Leaders were really well done. I would have loved it if Porkins had been included as well. No, seriously.

I wanted to put A New Hope on as soon as I got home and it's wild now reading the opening crawl and knowing exactly who the rebel spies are and what the battle was.

I never post in these forums, as someone who is not a Star Wars fan but has seen all the movies, I really enjoyed this movie, I think even more than TFA. I like movies like this, its telling a singular story yet, of course, is also a catalyst of what's to come later.

The cinematography. WOW. I mean DAMN. So many beautiful shots in this movie. And the special effects! The Disney money was in full effect on this one because the special effects and CGI were so crisp and clean, I wonder what special effects house they used for this. The movie just LOOKED gorgeous. The space battles were beautiful, the ground battles had a grungy, gritty feel to them, they felt tense and the movie felt like it had stakes to it.

The characters were likeable, but I found myself not as engaged with them as the TFA cast. Rey, Finn and Poe all had much better natural chemistry amongst each other than this cast. And Forrest Whitaker.....was just an odd character haha. But all in all, they were solid.

This was a fun movie, man. I'm officially sold on these one off side tales in the Star Wars universe if they're of this caliber.

I like Rogue one much more than TFA and thought it was better in nearly every way. Its one of my favorite SW films already and i'd put it ahead of TFA and the prequels. Any issues I had are pretty minor .

Had it's issues but overall very ****ing enjoyable. Had some great crowd-pleasing moments and I thought the rogue one crew was pretty dope. I wish we had more time with them but alas. And that darth vader scene though!

I get the feeling Saw and Jyn's characterization at the beginning was left on the cutting room floor of the reshoots.

    Even "I rebel" is gone.

What's the 3D like for this? Times for the 3D showings at my local cinema are much more convenient for 3D, though I normally prefer watching in 2D

Saw it last night. It was awesome. But there were so many scenes cut out of the movie that it felt like an entirely different movie compared to what we saw in the trailers. Makes me wonder if there will be an extended cut on Blu-Ray. Darth Vader scene at the end was epic.

It wasn't awful. I'd have preferred 2D myself but the only showing last night with available seats were 3D. It got a little annoying in the beginning because there are many dark scenes which the tinted 3D lenses didn't do any favors for, but the last 45 minutes or so are fine. The third act is so good you'll forget you have them on.

Forget 3D, If you have D-Box around your area then check it out. That's how I saw it.

Rogue One was decent. I left the theater feeling entertained, yet empty and a little frustrated. The cinematography was amazing. I loved the grimy, gritty original trilogy feel to it. They nailed that. The action was great as well (particularly in the third act) but when leaving the theater I had no desire to see this movie again in spite of what I liked.

It really all started with the characters. They were well-acted and adequate enough to hold my interest throughout for a "one and done" but no character offered anything to make me want to watch their journey again. When the third act comes and the mayhem ensues I wasn't invested in any of these people, not a single one which made a lot of what happened in the third act look cool but feel hollow. And I guess I chalk that up to the first act and how their introductions are rushed jumping around from here to there...and then they do nothing for a good part of the film.

The score wasn't bad and it wasn't memorable either. It's a Star Wars movie so why not use Star Wars music? Any time the score decided to toss out a familiar theme it only took me out of the movie and reminded me what it was missing.

It was nice to see Vader back but there was something off about him. That lumbering, intimidating walk was missing. The mask had a cheap look about it which once again took me out of the movie. Instead of rolling with the scene I'm looking at him and thinking this is the first time you reveal Vader and somehow find a way to screw it up with this shoddy looking cosplay? Didn't really like the pun either. At least the second scene kind of made up for it. Not enough to get me back in the theater and sit through another round with these uninteresting characters though.

    6.5/10.

    I really enjoyed RO.

All the emotion, suspense, characterization, clever tie in with the OT, menace, gripping action, good story telling, realistic SFX, etc I wanted from the prequels is all here and I loved every moment.

Ordinarily, I would give something like this an 8 but it emotional resonated so much I have to give it another point and a half.

    9.5/10

Ranks at the top of the SW movies along with Return of the Jedi.

Disney getting the rights to Star Wars was a total godsend. How far we have come from Jar Jar.

I love the ending, very brave move and it works for me.
Sadly the first 30-40min have low pacing.

    So 7,5/10

There was something....off about him wasn't there? And I also was thinking "His costume looks a little cheap, or is this how it always looked?" Maybe it was intentional though.

Yes the costume looked odd. Like he was wearing tights. Even the buttons on his chest plate looked off from ANH.
