Justice League Re-cast Hal Jordan for JL movie? Yay or Nay? - Part 1

I prefer Hal as the Green Lantern in JL, but if The Rock is going to play John then I won't mind the change at all.

I haven't visited here in quite a while, but I see nothing has changed.Brainchild is still trying to convince everyone and their brother that John Stewart is the better Green Lantern.Somethings never change.:hehe:

At least he's civil. Over at the GLC boards, the mods have had to clean house a few times because certain users let their passion for a certain lantern or era become toxic and disruptive.

I already have convinced them. They just won't admit it. :word:Never liked that costume on John. Glad he got rid of it. I think they should go for something more like what John wears

Hal's film.

I wasn't a fan of the dull green parts or the tiny GL symbol on his chest. The animation on JL/JLU was pretty bad in places. The YJ costume looks much better, but the green needs to be really bright. Hal once explained that the green parts give off heat and the black parts are ice cold.

I also like the white gloves, even for a non-Hal costume. I really want the statue I posted, but I'm not sure I can swing $400.

John was so awesome on JL/JL:U.

He was great at times, but we never really got to see the circumstances that made John into a Lantern. He stated that his moral fiber was formed by reading comics with his uncle, and Katma Tui made reference to his pre-Lantern bravery, but it was a kid's show without the kind of rounded character that he would need in live-action.

Try to look at it this way: any Lantern appearance outside the comics helps the others. Someone like Rock taking John from an obscure hero to standout in the JL movie would still make new GL fans. Plus, it's only a matter of time before Hal shows up on Arrow and/or the Flash TV series.

If it is John Stewart, I hope he has a full-on, 70s style 'fro.

Oh no. I'm still struggling with Spider-man having 10 lbs of hair in his movies these days. How about the bald head and goatee?

Wierd. This tidbit had already been out for quite a while. I wonder why websites are reporting this weeks after its release.

Call me precocious, but it seems he's just poking fans. Why not just come out with it and say you're part of the movie. What's the point of leaving #JohnSterwart.

I just don't buy it. It seems more like he's leading fans astray.

 Exactly. I can see GL turning into franchise if he takes the role. But IMO they should keep Hal as a co-star of the potential GL films. Jake Gyllenhaal would be perfect for the role.

Ditto!

Sure you can. Save up a lil' from each check or try to snag it cheap at a convention. Black gloves seem to make the ring pop more than white ones.

Generally, if you're talking about a role before you've been announced, you haven't got the role, contract clauses and all that. But who knows?

I'd still prefer Hal in JL and a GL Corps film (with John too), but whatever happens is likely gonna be met with some hate.

Now that would be awesomely epic.

I'd prefer no gloves at all for all of the GLs. I know that isn't really Hal's style, but the gloves put a certain cheesiness for the Green Lantern outfits. And in John's case, I don't think he's ever had gloves.

How many times do you see cops with gloves in real life? I feel sort of the same way towards the GL Corps.

Maybe Hal is assigned to the traffic division of the Green Lantern Corps?

The ironic thing is that Rock has already gotten John Stewart more mainstream exposure than he's ever had. I've seen pics and mentions of Rock alongside photos of John in magazines/websites that rarely, if ever, cover anything comic book related. It's amazing how a rumor like this can catch fire when Rock's name is attached to it.

I could get on board with those too. I'm just not a fan of green gloves because they don't frame the ring's shape.

On a regular basis. Not only do they use latex gloves for protection against bodily fluids, normal gloves serve as bite/scrape protection in a physical altercation as well as a better grip on motorcycle hand grips and nightsticks.

LOL--let's just stick with GLC Honor Guard.

Then I stand corrected.

I still don't like the look of GL gloves though. And since John typically doesn't have them, why add them now?

I don't hate the black gloves, but a ring over gloves does seem odd. Something like the Young Justice look might be best

The white gloves do give off that vibe [YT]Y-yBc8txHaA[/YT] :hehe:

to the GA? out of all my friends I only know one person who went to see GL in the cinema. and most of them are into marvel and dc movies etc.

I haven't even seen the movie. He's just a very dull character
They have to market the adaption right. Then deliver a really well-done film with a good story.
The premise itself, an intergalacting corps and high tech weapons with unlimited power, is very much suitable for films.

I agree, and if GOTG ends up being even moderately successful, it will be proof positive that any comic book character can be adapted with the correct vision.

I think they should continue with the Ryan Reynolds incarnation of GL. John Stewart was my introduction to GL through watching the JL animated series and so he's my favourite. However, I do think Ryan Reynolds did a good job and unfortunately was let down by the script and director, it also didn't help that Tim Robbins and Peter Sarsgaard were woefully miscast. However, we still have Mark Strong, Angela Bassett and Geoffrey Rush who can carry over.

There would be some story inconsistency between GL and MoS, both depict a 'first contact' situation with E.Ts with only one superhero in each film. Still, couldn't they somehow retcon it to fit?

That might be difficult. Maybe they can say the government somehow covered GL up? Or something? It could help explain why the government was digging for the ship in the arctic. Maybe? I don't know. I got nothing.

I'm fine with an actor who could redefine John's place in DC's pantheon of characters, but I wish DC would do something about John's current invisibility. He's the sole lead on GLC now with Guy heading the Reds, but he has no presence outside that book right now. Would it kill DC to have him help Hal in one of these animated movies? How about getting him into the Total Heroes line? If Sinestro can have a fig this early in the line, why not John?

Edit: I just saw that John is going to be released in the TH line later this year. It's a start.

The Rock isn't playing GL, wants to play a character who hasn't been done before.

Looks like Hal is probably coming back after all, hahahahah.

Still a looong way from a JL movie. Anything can happen between now &then. They could find somebody more suitable for John. They could also have a GL-free JL
