The Amazing Spider-Man Rhys Ifans Cast as The Lizard

The problem is, they have to develop Connors AGAIN. Since this is a reboot and all$

I wouldn't say it's that Connors needs development, because even the worst writing can set up a touching family bond and mentorship. The problem I have is that beyond action scenes, he doesn't bring anything interesting to the table. Spider-Man fighting, trapping, and curing the Lizard is very much a Saturday morning story.

IF the Lizard is indeed the villain, I see a much more character driven story... with the Paradise Lost theme in it, which could be EXCELLENT!

But they still need to deliver the goods with a realistic Lizard and the battles with Spidey.

If they DO... *wow*... could be unbelievably good.

Lizard is a good choice, it just sucks that the excellent Dylan Baker was wasted.

Wait, where is the confirmation he is Lizard? That would get me excited a bit, as he is my favorite Spidey baddie. But where's the confirmation?

I'm still bummed Dylan Baker never got to be the Lizard. Oh well.

Misleading thread title is misleading.

Why has it not been changed yet?

Has it been confirmed that Ifans is indeed the Lizard by Sony? It's possible that there could have been a mix up and that someone got their reptiles mixed up. I was hoping for the Chameleon myself.

^ Well when Sony was asked if it was true by reporters, all they said was "No comment" so that somewhat like confirmation to me because Sony has been quick to debunk things in the past.

As are most storylines in comic book movies :whatever:

kind of missing the bigger picture.

Spider-Man 1 through 3 was a waste.

Ahhhhhh. If only 94% of critics and fans agreed with you. But hey, it's cool to be different.

Meh, I like him as an actor fine, but I saw him in "Happiness" just before seeing SM2, so I couldn't get his character out of my head...

No, I think you missed the bigger picture here. My point is that a story like the Lizard's is only good for television. Compare 'Doctor Octopus is creating a fusion reaction that could destroy the whole city' to 'Curt Connors has turned into a lizard, and his family will be broken apart.' Heavy versus small stakes, but those small stakes don't matter on television because it's just another episode. I enjoy those episodes, but it doesn't make for good movie material. There can only be so many movies in so long a time.

didn't the lizard want to change the entire new york population into lizards?

IMO,Rhys would have made a much better Green Goblin.

Im really impressed with other castings though,Sally Field as Aunt May is a great choice.

the talk of the 'proto goblin' scares me a bit.

conners/lizard:

* has to establish the wife and billy
* has to first grow his hand so his family are over the moon
* has to then change to lizard and challenge spidey
* has to implement plan (if there is one)

then you have the STAR of the movie, peter and his relationship with gwen so how are they going to squeeze in the proto goblin without the main story getting pared down?

Maybe Proto-Goblin won't come in until early in the sequel. It could be that Oscorp Industries is Dr. Connors' financial backer for the lizard formula, and Van Atter is assigned to oversee the project and ensure that time and money isn't being wasted. Toward the end of the film, after the Lizard has been cured, Peter and Connors destroy the formula. However, Van Atter anticipated this, and he slinks away with a sample of the formula he had hidden away.

This leads to the opening fight in the second, in which Van Atter reappears as the beefed up Proto-Goblin on a rampage. Spider-Man stops him, and we see Norman doing the cliche villain thing, watching it all unfold on the news. 'Yaddayadda failure, yadda do everything yourself,' hence, Green Goblin.

I would like the 'proto-goblin' to be a sub plot where norman is experiementing on victims.
if you've seen the spectacular spider-man it was norman and ock that create rhino and sandman so this would totally work for a movie and would eat too much into the lizard plotline.
