Eternals Rotten Tomatoes watch thread

Captain Marvel and Black Panther (and probably WW) all got review-bombed by insecure and hateful men though. You can also see it when you check user scores over at metacritic.

Currently at 50%, and with 61 of the most-recent 100 reviews being negative, it seems like a plummet into the 40s is inevitable. With an average score of 5.60, you could say the reviews for Eternals are pretty lousy.

Yeah, there are now more negative reviews than there are positives.
It makes you wonder how low the score would have been if this was a dual Disney + and theaters release like Black Widow? I legit think it would already be in the low forties, high 30’s percentage score right now.

Then again some critics are much more lenient if they're watching something on their home TV,

Anyone curious on which side Armond White will fall? I think he hasn't given a single MCU movie a fresh rating.

All I know is (1) Whatever the majority says, he says the opposite, and (2) Every time I read the headline of one of his reviews, I have zero idea what he is on about.

He gave the Snyder cut a positive review though, siding with the majority.

Look, I'm not going to say the film does or doesn't deserve this rating (I haven't seen it), but I'm floored that this landed a worse score than the likes of Thor: The Dark World and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Those two movies are literally unwatchable to me.

"The MCU hasn't made a bad movie yet," my ass.
I actually feel like a good comparison here is Ant-Man and Wasp. Like you I find it pretty terrible and for similar reasons. This movie kind of functions like that one, but much longer, wit even more expositions dumps. It's even bit as inconsequential outside of the endings.

"Inconsequential" is the perfect word to describe Ant-Man and the Wasp. The most important thing that happened in that movie was the post-credits scene. What a ****ing joke.

The first one, anyway. That second one with the ant playing the drums...worthless.

I completely forgot about that. Wow. :lmao:

Anyway, forgive my tangents. I'll still check Eternals out, but yeah. Very surprised by this considering the talent involved and the fact that Thor: The Dark World and Ant-Man and the Wasp had already set the bar pretty low.

Campea arguing that this is still a positively reviewed movie is funny. Don't think he'd be saying that for a non-MCU movie that has a little over 50% on RT.
He was invited to the premiere, so take everything he has to say about this movie at face value.

HOW IS THAT NOT THE FIRST ROTTEN MCU FILM?

If you read the headlines of the reviews, they read more like a movie that would score in 30% or high 20% BvS range. Seems like most of the positive reviews are just giving it a pass. Very surprising.

I haven't seen the film yet so maybe I'm completely off here but I get the feeling that critics either expected something truly different or the same fun Marvel formula and the movie falls somewhere in the middle, which pleases neither group.
