Routh and Bale are not going anywhere

or more of a kilmer keaton mix that would be awesome

Ugh, I hope this is bull****. I don't know why they're be so determined to get this movie out.

Bad idea from beginning to end. Part of the whole excitement when I was a child was the possibility of seeing not only characters I was familiar with on screen together, but the actors' chemistry! And although I've grown up to accept many many disappointing results, I would still feel the same now.

People want to see the same actors. There's a feeling a continuity to the whole thing that I swear could make the difference in $100 million. :wow:

Whatever the source on this, it sounds like another line of hollywood exec cluelessness. It's likely a "testing the waters" type of announcement....to see if they could get away with it. :down

I agree.....especially when it comes to not having Bale. It's moronic at best!

I'm glad Bale wont have a part in this, but Routh I'm surprised it's not like he's planning to be an any other movies. He should take the opportunity. I was beginning to think that Batman was even gonna be in the movie. even though I don't really care much about this movie in the first place...

When did recasting two parts become a "bunch of recasts"?

Quick question for the knowledgeable here - was it Routh and Bale who decided not to be a part of the JL movie, or was it Warner Bros.' plan to not have them in it?

I'm sorely disappointed either way, but I would take SOME solice in the possibility that it was out of the actors' hands...:o

I think it was WB because Bale and Routh both said they were interested in the idea

Everyone's so opposed to this, but I doubt anyone beyond the fanboy circle honestly gives a damn. I don't think Bale has imprinted his image of Batman on anyone as severely as the fans.

And I'm actually kind for glad for both of them. It's a wise career move. I'm not against this at all.
Ditto.

Why would they want their entire careers defined by and remebered for one character?

Didn't work out too badly for Ben Kingsley (Ghandi), Leslie Nielsen (Dr. Runack in Airplane, everything else since then has been a revisitation) Marlon Brando (Don Corleone, almost everything he did after The Godfather was a revisitation), or for that matter, Christopher Reeve.

I could even go out on a limb and add Clint Eastwood as The Man With No Name.

So according to this they are just using a different Superman and Batman for team-up movies only while Routh and Bale will still play Superman and Batman in solo movies.

...

DUH! When was this ever in dobut?

So since the film is CG does that mean they wont be "IN" the movie, but their voices will be?
Is it still possible for them to be playing Superman and Batman's voices?

I'm sure their likeness will be used for the characters. The actors will probably have to do motion capture stuff, similar to how Thomas Haden Church did the CG Sandman in Spider-Man 3 (although to a much bigger degree since the whole movie is CG).

Utterly ******ed.

They screwed with shows like Smallville and JLU with embargoes because supposedly, different versions of the same characters would confuse the audience. Even though people have accepted various show continuities on the same characters for years, and many of the shows catered to completely different audiences (the people who watched JLU at 10:00 PM obviously weren't the same target audience of The Batman).

But now it's okay to have different actors in blockbuster movie franchises aimed at the same crowd, coexisting side by side? THAT'S not supposed to confuse audiences? :whatever:

If Bale is THAT hard to re-sign for JLA, or this JLA project is this cumbersome, then just WAIT until the Nolan trilogy runs its course. At that point, people won't care whether there's a recast or not, and the WB can even claim that the JLA movie is in the same continuity as Nolan's movies, just with a different actor (like James Bond), or that JLA is a "vague sequel." In the meantime, they could PROPERLY launch several more solo superhero movies (Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern), which wouldn't have 1/10th the risk. If JLA bombs or disappoints, then WB/DC can kiss ALL of their superhero franchises goodbye.

I was speaking to a pal at Warner Bros this morning who let slip that the "Justice League" movie is just as full-steam ahead as the rumours suggest it is. It will definitely be up next year.

Yeah, they're not rushing this. :whatever:

I just saw that vid of Bale and Crowe, and Bale sounded like a pompous ass, he sounds like his movie's the only good thing, like they've only done something good and the JL would be stupid.

I'm sure the JLA movie will be more entertaining than Nolan's dull crap. Like he's too good for it, whatever.

I'm sure the JLA will be more faithful than Nolan's bat films.

The faithful stuff is always better.

I haven't seen that video yet, so I can't comment on Bale supposedly being "pompous." But the way this JLA project is turning out so far, he may not be unjustified. It's sounding like the DC equivalent of Fantastic Four or Spider-Man 3.

Sorry to break it to ya dude... but these actors have a life... they aren't going to devote the prime of their careers to one character... and the fact is... a good fraction of the posters on these boards believe a JLA at this time is as ridiculous as Bale/Nolan make it out to be. And believe me... this rushed hapass JLA attempt that WB is coining as the next big thing won't even do much better than SR... at least their budget will be reasonable this time around.

Thank God!

I didnt want Bale attached to this abortion of a rushed movie. Nolan's Batman wouldnt fit in and it would look silly. Glad he'll get to finish off the Nolan series.

Both of your analogies fail. Good day, sir.

Don't see the actual EXPLANATION why I supposedly "fail."

Meanwhile, I can say that this movie seems completely rushed (barely starts in late 2007 and will come out in 2009?), that the JLA members aren't properly introduced to the audience, that the "younger" written Batman and Superman reek of dumbing-down for the kiddies, and that if this movie bombs, then ALL of DC's potential comic franchises go down the toilet.

The FF and SM3 comparison fits. Both were movies made to satisfy the lowest common denominator, with little thought to time, stories, characters, etc. SM3 was total instant gratification (the fanboys just couldn't wait for Venom, and Marvel satisfied their demands by rushing the character into the film), the way this film seems to be.

This is the worst move ever with comic films.

not entirely theres still that one little speck of hope that this could be at most a decent movie not big enough to kill at the box office but still good enough to not be a complete failure.

Maybe he'll have a different attitude when 3:10 Yuma or whatever tanks. I don't care if Crowe is in it, this movie doesn't look the least bit interesting. Why do we even hire these arrogent actors from overseas? Oh I forgot, they make more money in the states. Some of them act like they are too good for certain roles and that they are such fine actors. Why don't they stay their butts in the UK or Austrailia? Should've gotten an American actor to play bats from the beginning in BR.

I wouldn't say that Nolan's batman was dull, but it wasn't a good movie, it was just entertaining and Nolan didn't do anything new or make me went wow! People are just on Nolan's jock and is giving him a pass cause he's supposed to be the cool and hip director that the fanboys like. I bet any amount of money that if Michael Bay or Brett Ratner had directed BR exactly as we saw it by Nolan poeple would not be singing it as high a praise on these fan sites. In fact they'll point out every damn flaw, like those up close shots during the fight scenes where you couldn't see bats really throw down and that great idea of a water evaporating machine that destroy's water, but yet has no effect on carbon based life forms known as humans.

I dont see how Bale is being pompous if he wants to stay away from a Justice League film that is looking like it has no certainty whatsoever. He aint contractually obligatged to do it. He likes being Batman in Nolan's world and people like that too.
His career is doing fine. He's gotten to executive produce his own film with Harsh Times, had a number 1 hit with the Prestige and getting award buzz with Rescue Dawn. As much as he likes playing Batman and he has pandered to the fans no one wants the George Reeves syndrome. When its time to move on, its time to move on.
Some people may not like Batman Begins but the general concenus is that it raise the bar for comic book filming even with the so-called flaws of the third act. So he got a right to be cocky or whatever.
