The Amazing Spider-Man Rules for the Reboot

You could make the camera shot be a pseudo fade where we sort of see Spidey's lenses line up with Garfield's eyes and part of the fabric from the mask and everything behind Garfield could be dark/black.

I don't know about that lol. Not a bad idea but I'd rather him just take the mask off. It never bothered me in the original films.

Just the only thing, take the mask off only when necessary. But I see why he took it off in the films. His mask got sparked up...but that was dumb. He actually used it to get recognition from Ock. Spider-Man, he never took it off...it just got ripped to shreds.

They could do something like Iron Man where we see Garfield's face inside the mask like we do with Tony. Maybe Webb can think of something like that.

No. That would be dumb. Peter wears a "skin tight" mask not a cot damn helmet.

Go and watch Iron Man and tell me if he has that much room in that helmet.

Are you seriously going to compare a helmet with a face mask?? The fact that it's a helmet makes it more believable that there's some space wide enough to separate it from his face. Spidey is wearing a face mask. When he speaks or moves his jaw, it's going to or is at least supposed to interrupt the movement of the mask.

I agree.

Keep his freakin' mask on this time, and stop treating the audience like idiots, we know that the guy playing Peter is suppose to be underneath it. No more obvious scenes of taking off the mask to show emotion. This isn't Wolverine, the mask is worn for a reason.

Sorry, mask is going to come off.

And Wolverine wears a mask for a reason...so analogy fail.

What is Wolverine's reason for wearing a mask?

it's difficult to get emotion while wearing a mask. people can point to 'v' but his performance was nuanced and subtle where as spidey is expected to be expressive.

when peter is struggling to hold back the train and you see the strain on his face I think the tension wouldn't have been nearly as epic had he been wearing a mask.

during the final climax just rip the mask so you can see an eye and the mouth just like SM1

Oh no no no. Please for the love of jellybeans we need the mask on. Peter stopping the train imo could have been just as effective had he kept his mask on. There are so many ways that scene could have been executed. For starters, I would have shown the strain by making his arms shake under the strain, have spidey lean his head backwards, with his head slightly shaking also and cry out a long, "Aaaaaarrrrrggggh" and grunting sounds akin to body builders bench pressing some serious metal. Body language and vocals would have to be up to par to pull this off and now that I think about it, Raimi could have done this. Tobey conveyed sufficient body/vocal language to get a better effect had they kept the mask on.

The final battle scene's half-mask was fine, even if the entire mask was off I would have approved, you know why, no one was there to see him accept Green Goblin.

The train scene was a horrible example of that mask being off. Every time that mask is off in front of people I cringe. Movie goers would have easily accepted Spider-Man screaming in pain through the mask without seeing down his throat. I always thought the fact that you couldn't see Spider-Man's emotions under the mask added a mystique about him. And if you have to take it off, do it where no one can see him. Not to mention, how did those kids find Spidey's mask? Then we just have to let all of the passengers on the train see his face, as well. I suppose that was epic too, eh? Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky and Mike now knows who he is. :o

Maybe subtitles that display his emotions?

[Spider-Man is feeling a bit stressed] haha

Hahaha, Kaw, you've outed yourself as a New Edition's fan.

Yeap, if I see one guy in a city of millions and millions, I know exactly who that ***** is.

The subtitle idea is hilarious, but I have a better solution. They should subtly have Spider-man's eyes widen when his spider sense goes off or being amused by his own quip. His eyes can narrow when he is feeling stressed or angry. Now I know some people are going to say this sounds cartoonish, but if done right it would add so much emotion to the characters performance without having to take off the damn mask.

  1. Camera phones.
  2. Have you ever lived in NYC? It's a bizarrely small city once you live there. You really could end up seeing the same people, sometimes twice in a day, sometimes multiple times in a week. I got lost and ran into a group of friends as they got on the train I happened to be on, and then two stops later, one of those friends was shocked to see his ex get on the same train in the same car. Maybe not everyone on the train will see Peter every day, but the first person who sees him is going to be like, "Hey! It's Spider-Man!"

I agree with the OTC claims and would add the following (and it is a rule I want all super hero director's to follow):

Killing the super villain is not a requirement.
Feel free to let them live once in awhile.
