Saddest Character Death Scene

The best for me are

The Passion of the Christ
William Wallace
Katsumoto from the Last Samurai
The Medic in Saving Private Ryan
Trinity in the Matrix Revolutions
George Kirk in the new Star Trek (beautiful scene of both life and death)
Pa Kent in Superman
Rachel in the Dark Knight

Every death in the show lost

Those marines in The Rock :(

"You know goddamn well I can't give that order"

the guy wearing the gravity boots in lethal weapon 2, it was just a messed up way to go

You need to watch the whole film to make it 'hit you' but here is the only on-screen death that made me shed a tear (or 20).

Plot:

Vivian Bearing, a demanding and uncompromising professor of 17th century English poetry specializing in the holy sonnets of John Donne, is diagnosed with advanced (stage 4) metastatic ovarian cancer. Being an academic, she treats the news with a certain matter-of-factness much like she would her own research. Indeed, her medical team - the renowned Dr. Harvey Kelekian and his fellow, Dr. Jason Posner, who happens to be an ex-student of hers - do treat her solely like a research experiment, with a "live at all cost" mentality. The doctors recommend an experimental treatment of aggressive chemotherapy, to which she agrees. In part out of her own choice but in part out of her own personal circumstances, she decides to go through the treatment alone. But as her treatment progresses, she wishes she had some more truly caring human interaction from people who see her as a person and not just a research experiment.

(While she doesn't die in this scene it is the last time she is seen alive in the film)

Easy Answers:
Independence day.

When Randy Quaid Makes the decision on screen to sacrifice himself to save his family below him - The Look on his face - I teared up because I completly understood where he was and how he felt and what he was doing and Why.

And his defiance as he took the jet with the tactical Nuke up into the Ship had me saying "That's Right,... You Go Boy."

Star Trek.
George Kirk - EXACTLY the same response from me when he realized he had to stay and fight the ship.
His CALM snagging missles out of the air that were headed for shuttles, setting up the collision course while deciding on the name for his child - man,....

Those were "MAN" moments that can make a man shed a tear.

Ooohh, good one. I actually played Dr. Posner in the play a few years back. Our Vivian was pretty good, but she couldn't even touch the brilliant Emma Thompson in the role.

Jesus in The Passion

John Gielgud in War and Remembrance

Brooks in The Shawshank Redemption

Boromir in The Fellowship of the Ring

George Kirk in Star Trek 2009

Yoda in Return of the Jedi

Vader/Anakin in Return of the Jedi

Spock in Wrath of Khan

Arnold in Terminator 2

- John Coffey in the Green Mile
- Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi.
- Apolo Creed in Rocky IV
- Goose in Top Gun
- T-800 (Arnold) in Terminator 2
- William Wallace in Braveheart
- Captain John Miller in Saving Private Ryan
- Maximus in Gladiator
- Boromir in LOTR Fellowship of the Ring
- King Kong(both versions)
- Roy in The Blade Runner
- Gandolf's apparent death in Fellowship
- Neo/Trinity in Revolutions
- Harry Stamper in Armegeddon, mostly Ben's crying for his sacrifice.
- Jesus Christ in Passion of the Christ
- All of Capt. Millers crew in Saving Private Ryan who died, all pretty heart breaking.
- Adam in Saw
-Old Yeller...
Sure there is plenty more, but all I got for now.

Kirk in Star Trek Generations
John Coffey
Dan and Little Anne in Where the Red Fern Grows.(Did anyone see the remake a few years ago with Dave Matthews playing the dad? Good version.)
Roger in Dawn of the Dead
Optimus Prime in Transformers the Movie 1986.(first time I ever cried during a movie.)
There are others, but they don't come to mind right away, I'll post them as they come to me.

When the Chick from Patch Adams dies
When the turtle from Kung Fu Panda dies (I'm serious that was kinda sad)

Belle Rosen (Shelley Winters) in The Poseidon Adventure.

Anna and the King: The little princess dying from cholera and the beheading of Bai Ling's character and her lover.

Elias' death in Platoon is pretty hard to watch. The Elephant Man and The Passion Of The Christ are hard for me as well. Both films are horrifying in that they capture that brutality that humans are so quick to display when they fear someone they don't understand.

I can't think of any others off the top of my head that really bother me, but I remember when I was probably 9 or 10 I cried the first time I saw Short Circuit and thought Johhny Five had "died". Pathetic, I know.

Vader in Return of the Jedi
Padme in Revenge of the Sith
Spock in Wrath of Khan
Jean in X2
Xavier in X3
The couple in the Notebook
Optimus in Transformers the movie
Jennifer Lopez in Jersey Girl(that's probably the one i cry the most on honestly)
Gandalf in Fellowship of the Ring
I forgot his name but Hellboy's dad/leader of BPRD in Hellboy.

"I would have followed you my brother, my captain, my King!"

Boromir in LOTR, his death in the book was meh to me, It didn't move me at all, but in the movie oh my god, I think I cried my eyes out!

The deaths of Johnny and Dally in The Outsiders. Cried when I read it in the book, and the movie was just as effective.
