Scariest films you've seen?

I recently watched French horror movie Livid and that was pretty scary. Its like a gory gothic failytale someone like Guillermo Del Toro would make.

lol great isn't it? Hauer is the man. Have you seen the whole film or is that your first experience with The Hitcher? :D

One of my all time favorite actors. He has a certain attitude about him, the way he talks etc. Fatherland is one of his better movies

The Woman in Black actually managed to scare me a little bit, although some of them were loud noise "cheap" scares.

Ringu, Ringu 2, The Amityville Horror remake, the climax from Mirrors, Kubrick's Shining.

Movies don't scare me anymore. They did when I was a kid but once I became I teenager and now an adult ( I am 24) most of the time I laugh at scary movies. Now there are some video games that creep me out or have me tense because I am an active participant rather than a passive viewer in a movie.

Games like Silent Hill and Dead Space for example, will give you more scares than any horror movie released in YEARS. Play Dead Space at night with surround sound you will freak. Or play Silent Hill 2 that game is still creepy after all these years. Horror movies need to step it up, they just aren't scary.

Hi, I'm Doctor Jones and I've conquered my fear of horror films. I'd rather camp alone in the wilderness and fight off bears and mountain lions to experience real fear.

I'm no weeaboo, but I think the scariest films in existence are Japanese horror movies.

Specifically the original Ju On (not the crappy American 'Grudge' remake)

And The Audition, which you can watch on Youtube if you're a masochist.

You literally will not be able to sleep. They focus on psychological games and tension as opposed to slashing, blood and gore. Much scarier.

Here's another terrifying scene from 'The Eye' (the original Hong Kong version, not the crappy Jessica Alba remake).

Candyman traumatized me as a child as did The 6th Sense.
I am one of those people who is easily scared yet I found nothing scary about The Ring.

That's probably because you watched the wrong Ring. I'm assuming you saw the inferior American remake. If so, check out the Japanese original Ringu. Much scarier. And see the movies I recommended above. They'll scare the beejeezus out of you.

Probably, but even Americans are acting like the American version was so scary. I think on some list it was the most influential scary movie in the last decade...which made me just go.

Insidious was pretty freaky. I've always liked Jacob's Ladder too.

The only film that ever managed to scare the hell out of me was Blair Witch Project. That was a genuinely creepy and pyschological scare. Other than that, there's really been nothing. Horror movies these days are nothing but jump scares and loud noises.

Fixed. Watch some Asian horror films. They still do it right.

Heavily disagree. There are some asian horror films I like but 90% of Asian horror involves ghosts. I've seen a **** ton of asian horror and their films really aren't better.

I disagree times a million. Hollywood horror movies these days have too much CGI blood, cheap scares, dumb deaths and always the same annoying hipster college aged characters.

Asian horror relies more on psychological tension and genuinely unsettling imagery that will keep you up at night. Stuff that really messes with your head. That's why Hollywood tries (unsuccessfully) to copy them so often.

I'd be interested to know which Asian horror films you've seen.

And the scariest one I've seen, Audition, doesn't involve ghosts at all.

I actually own Audition and it's a good one, but in my previous post I did say 90% not 100%:cwink: Even then I knew I was exaggerating. It's just out of all the asian horror films I've seen the majority are always involving ghosts. Now I do agree that a lot of Asian horror films rely on tension and as you put it, unsettling imagery, but most of the time it's still dealing with ghosts. Don't even get me started on the stupid Grudge movies. I can't help but laugh everytime I see that woman with the long hair come out with her mouth open looking like she wants to suck some ****.

I guess we can agree on one thing. That'd be one terrifying *******.

Audition was a good film. There have been a few good ones from the last decade and the 90's. But I try to stick with the 70's and 80's. Those are my favorite decades. You had Elm Street,Jaws,Halloween,Wicker Man;etc, etc. With all due respect to the 30's and 40's,I think that was my favorite time for horror.
I'm a huge horror fanatic, but I must admit that I rarely watch any current horror movies anymore. They just aren't that original or interesting to me.

Blair Witch never scared me, Blair Witch 2 actually gave me the creeps more because of the idea that all this was going on and they had no idea they were committing these crimes.
I have seen only the last part of Audition and it is definitely scary and nasty.
Scream scared me when it first came out. I remember watching it at a sleepover and all of us screaming bloody murder when the phone rang.

Even knowing it was fake, Blair witch creeped me out. I've been lost in the deep woods at night with no flashlight or means of defense. Even after all these years I never forget the fear I experienced in those woods as a child.
