Scenes In Movies That Make You Cry

That reminds me of an episode of Family Ties when I was a kid. There was this one episode where Alex (Michael J Fox, for those of you too young to have watched the show) is talking to a counselor after a good friend of his dies in a car accident. The whole episode was flashbacks of their times together. It was one of those less funny, public service message episodes, but still very emotional and well written. I remember crying when Alex hugs the ghost of his friend goodbye.

The episode was called "A, My Name is Alex". Great episode, and surprisingly funny considering how sad the subject was. The first time they showed it, it was an hour-long episode and they ran the second half without commercials.

Futurama when they show the ending montage of Fry's dog waiting for him to return as the seasons change and he gets older and lies down to die. That music is so sad and everything about it is so sad.

The ending scene in Jack The Bear.

It's a movie with Danny DiVito, where he plays an alcoholic widowed father raising his two sons.

One movie that has got me several times, in a few different scenes, is Platoon.

1. Elias trying to escape from the VietCong after Barnes leaves him for dead in the jungle.

2. Bunny brutally murdering a handicapped young man in a village in front of his mother.

Those two scenes really get to me, even after 25 years.

But one scene in a television show that tears me up is the Season 8 finale of 24.

After President Taylor orders the assassins to release Jack and she gives him time to escape the country. He begins to run away as Chloe, Arlo, and Cole watch him via the drone that CTU sent. He stops share one last look at Chloe via the drone and the screen fades away.
How could i forget this one. Indeed, it got me teared up too :csad:

Hmmm...

LOTR: The Return of the King - The Grey Havens, gets me every time. Also, I tend to tear up when Sam says "LET US BE RID OF IT!" and carries Frodo up the mountain. Something about his unbreakable will and devotion to his friend is so powerful in that scene.

Superman - when Martha says goodbye to teenage Clark.

The Passion of the Christ - when Mary sees Jesus being beaten and thinks about him in younger days.

Batman Begins
- when young Bruce blames himself for his parents' death and Alfred comforts him.

Meet Joe Black - when Joe takes William to the next place.

(okay don't laugh) The Notebook - when old Noah tells his son that he can't go with him and leave his wife alone in the nursing home.

(and if TV shows count)

Lost - multiple scenes in the last season; particularly one featuring the death of two key characters (you can probably guess which scene I'm talking about if you've seen it).

The Black Donnellys - pilot episode when Tommy takes care of his family.

Not as sad as posting up deliberate spoilers for the end of Lost so that folk you don't like on the internet who you know have not seen it yet get spoiled.

But that's ok, lol, it just goes to show the extent of some people's wits.

Jimmy Fallon sang the ending of the show at the Emmys last week. I think the statute of limitations on final episode spoilers is past now.

there's an episode of Fresh Prince when Will's dad shows up. at the end, the dad leaves again after promising Will he would take him on the road with him.

that final scene between Uncle Phil and Will brought some tears

as to movies, only a few come to mind right now - Philadelphia, I am Sam, Toy Story 3, Of Mice and Men, ET

Hadn't thought about it, but Fresh Prince had some remarkably touching moments between Uncle Phil and Will. What a great show that was.

The last episode of Lost..I mean cmon

passion of the christ- cried from the moment it started

miracle- u.s hockey team beats those evil russians...it always gets me....always

There's some undeniably hard-hitting emotion at the end of ROTK yes, especially the scenes with Frodo and Sam at Mt. Doom. It does get rather long-winded though.

Jack Nicholson told Elija Wood that he walked out aver the "the 11th ending"

I like the ending of RTOK but sometimes I must admit I agree with Randal from Clerks 2. if you havent seen it seek out the scene where he explains lotr. lol

for some reason the very end of Gangs of New York when it shows the sped up build up NYC over the course of a century and half, with the WTC included always sticks with me.

And not that I tear up at all but a movie that gets to me is 500 days of summer. I just really relate to JGLs character, and oddly enough the costume design seems like it was temporarily stolen from my closet.

Oh yeah that was a good one especially when Will yells what he really thinks of his dad.

There were loads of scenes in Forest Gump for me and were his wife dies got me going.

The scene in Antwone Fisher

When his best friend is killed right in front of him.

The last time I cried (man tears) during a movie was when I was 9 and saw The Lion King. The scene where Simba's dad died got to me. :csad:

The end of Meet the Robinsons, the scene in Return of the King where everyone bows to the Hobbits.

Look man, I stand by what I said about the deliberate spoiler that was posted for my benefit, but I will give you the benefit of the doubt and take into consideration that maybe you thought I was an uncaring a****** who had come onto the thread to take the piss and deserved it, and so you maybe possibly had somewhat noble intentions behind it. I am not the type of hold grudges in any malicious way, so I will say no more on this matter.
But the fact that Vincent the dog reveals all along that not only can he talk, but is actually a symbiote and has been living in Hurley's stomach like that Totall Recall guy for much of his stay on the island, well, I kind of would have liked to have seen that for myself.

This isn't a Lost thread. Nor is it a "whine about Lost spoilers" thread. Even more so when your post is more about Lost BS and not Lost itself. So knock it off now.

Actually, that last post was a peace offering of sorts, to say I would hold no grudge against the guy, so there is nothing to 'knock off'.

Yet you shouldn't have started it on the first place.

Well, we all have our own opinions on what is fair and unfair, and I was not the only one who said it was out of order to be posting unmarked spoilers about the most anticipated tv show of all time, after a 5-6 yr run. How that is comparable to 'Toy Story 3' is beyond me. Proper care should have been taken, consideration for other people.
But i will say no more, and I actually already said 'I will say no more on this matter' in the statement you
quoted telling me to 'knock it off', so I would not have said anymore if you had not replied to me.

Yeah, Passion of the christ...man, that scene where Mary runs to Jesus and Jesus is all beaten and bloody, touches his mother's face and says, "see mother I make all things new", the music kicks in and Jesus gets up.

Just watched A New Hope recently and that little smile Obi-Wan gives Vader just before he's struck down got me a little misty eyed. Especially after seeing the prequel trilogy and knowing what they'd been through, it's like Obi-Wan still remembers the good times, even after everything Anakin has done.

I always thought it was a "trust me, everything will be all right." look to him. Obi-Wan being one with the force was an ace up his sleeve.
