Scooby-Doo Heading Back to the Big Screen

Dumb move and im still waiting to hear how trolls 2 did as just a rental And not allowing people to buy it outright

They think they're gonna make money by releasing them at home, but not every movie is gonna catch fire like that.

Unless you guys want them to push this back too or just pull them indefinitely, in what's already going to be a clogged film schedule going forward for a few years, the studios don't have much of an option.

They're dumping it because they know it's not that great. This always looked VOD quality anyway. If they thought this had a chance, they would've delayed it like other animated films.

Wow. Slippery slope begins.

Like Trolls and Artemis Fowl, they know the quality and demand isn't there.

Well, this means I'll get to see Scoob earlier. because look, While I will go to the theater for Black Widow or WW 2, No way would I go for a cartoon.

Makes sense. This didn't look like it was going to be a big hit. Don't waste money on a theatrical release.

That and this thing has had a rocky production that's lasted nearly a decade. First it was gonna be a straight launchpad for a Hannah-Barberra cinematic universe called "S.C.O.O.B." (despite no other tied-in movies being announced; even the failed Dark Universe at least had that). Then it was gonna be about the gang vs a conspiracy of masked villains and would've been co-directed by Dax Sheppard (fresh off of the failure that was the "Chips" movie, so it was clear WB gave him the gig as collateral for "Chips" failing). And now it's a "origin story for probably the first 10-15 minutes or so and the the rest a mystery with elements of a crossover with other HB characters and a bunch of unfunny pop culture jokes" movie (seriously, that damn Netflix joke made me cringe). It's very clear WB had no concrete idea what this was gonna be from the start and just junked the previous ideas when they were going nowhere which each of them. Being moved to VOD instead of theaters is just the final nail in the coffin of this entire damn mess. This thing was never gonna be a hit with anyone.

On a side note, they've shown NOTHING of Tracy Morgan's Captain Caveman, which makes me wonder how long he's even IN this movie! I get the feeling it's gonna be just a cameo or something.

That's a shame. I was hoping to see this and SpongeBob in theaters.

I'll probably pay for this since I have Fandango points

Is it just me or does this comedy feel really cringey and forced?

I haven't watched this yet, but probably gonna stream it over the weekend. I had no idea the Blue Falcon's pilot was supposed to be Dee Dee from the Captain Caveman cartoon.

I mostly dug it for what it is. It's pretty much the Marvel superhero blockbuster version of Scooby Doo with some nods to the other Hanna Barbera characters.

I thought it was ok at best. I really enjoyed the animation and the voice acting, but man were all the pop culture references annoying in this. I mean I admittedly chuckled at some stuff, but most of it fell flat for me. Also, while it was kind of cool seeing the other Hannah Barbara characters in this I wish this movie actually focused more on Scooby-Doo and the gang. This really did feel more like the Hannah Barbara Cinematic Universe and if it was called that instead of Scoob it would have made a lot more sense. Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island is still the best Scooby-Doo movie period IMO whether it be live action or animated.

This movie was God awful. I split this movie five ways and I still want my four dollars back.

I think we've regressed with this franchise. It's like we're back in the 70's and 80's with totally baffling results that totally disregards the original idea in favor of chasing fads over embracing what made the idea so unique. It's just a terrible movie for what it is, and what it is just a movie made by a committee. This is a cynical nightmare. When the opening shot of Venice Beach with a current hip hop song started playing it sunk in.

I went in dreading it, I just didn't expect it to be this bad.

But it's not even that, it's just a bad movie for what it's trying to do. This movie was made by a committee. This is a cynical nightmare.

Yeah I honestly don't blame you and I'm sure a lot of the older fans will especially feel this way as well. At the end of the day this just didn't feel like Scooby-Doo and what's worse is how forced all the meta/pop culture jokes felt. I'd hate to see this franchise being reduced to this kind of lazy humor just because other movies have made it popular.

I'm a older Scooby Doo fan too and I still enjoyed it. Meta pop culture jokes have been in Scooby Doo's DNA for decades. This is nothing new.

My feelings for meta jokes in this franchise aside, it's yielded mixed results at best, but here it was just done so horribly and forced. It's just terribly executed. While it doesn't totally work, and not my ideal way of doing a Scooby movie, the first live action film's meta humor is at times funny and entertaining. Thanks to James Gunn. This movie felt like the meta humor was in service of a check list of things in pop culture right now. This is was like brand reinforcement too of Hanna Barbara. Yet another attempt at a cinematic universe.

This movie is gonna age like Scooby Doo Goes to Hollywood. It reminded me of that terrible era where Scooby Doo was totally off the rails and he was just shoved into these cynical, terribly thought out ideas. This will be an artifact of it's own time if it isn't already.

What in the **** does Alexander the Great's dog descendant have to fit in here? It's hapharzadly shoved in to excuse these forced brands creating something really baffling.

I'm convinced that script was written in 2004 and barely changed at all. Reeked of a bad DreamWorks film like Shark Tale.
Velma and Scooby worked for me. Shaggy wasn't that bad but something was off.

They didn't even bother trying with Fred and Daphne at all. I didn't like anything envolving the characters outside of the gang.

I think the director was part of the problem. He’s done a bunch of Hanna Barbera DTV schlock (Ie Scoob Doo Meet Kiss, Tom and Jerry In Oz) which this reeks of. They needed someone fresh with a passionate vision. Not play it safe to the lowest common denominator.
