I vaguely remember seeing something about how this potentially won’t be a deconstruction/meta film like the previous entries which I hope is false. I understand wanting to keep things fresh and make this more accessible to a newer audience, but if there isn’t any references to poking fun at the current state of the horror genre or past tropes, then this isn’t a Scream movie.
I don't recall hearing that. Where was this rumored?
Uh...
That just turns it into any other horror movie and makes it less unique. Now we're just gonna get a more straightforward horror movie with these characters? Aside from the fact it makes it Scream, you can keep doing the meta deconstruction because movies and horror is always changing as long as it's well executed. Sounds like Williamson is just rationalizing.
Personally I believe as long as the intent was to do something true to the spirit of Wes Craven and his vision of the franchise, it's going to be fine.
Hey, I'm still excited for this. But what you just wrote could be written for any and all resurrected franchises. We've heard it all before. Saying it is one thing, whether it delivers is another.
I’m honestly ok if they don’t go meta because I have no confidence they won’t go beyond surface level commentary about how reboots never work. They tried it for Scream 4 and it was played out.Uh...
