Season 6, Episode 9 "Battle of the Bastards" Discussion Thread

They got a lot of bodies to turn into ashes. They better start with Wun Wun.

And the 62 Bear Island men.

Do you think john should of burned Rickon's body as well?

I can't imagine how he would feel if Rickon came back as a zombie.

If the family crypt is secured enough. I don't think it should be an issue. Speaking of which, Ned's remains were returned to Winterfell?

While I was watching last night, I was reminded of an old commercial jingle.

Feed him Dr. Ross dog food and do him a favor
It's got more meat and it's got more flavor
It's got more meat to make him feel the way he should
Dr. Ross dog food is doggone good. Woof!

Loved the episode. That last shot, all I kept hearing was Joker saying "we'll see how loyal a hungry dog really is"

I actually thought Sansa was going to say that line.

I notice Dany in this episode felt and acted more like a Queen than anything we saw previously. Just like how Jon Snow is finally the King of the North.

Care to do your GIF comparison for these two shots? Ice and Fire really show parallels in this episode. Also did anyone else notice that Jon's theme music in this episode was a mix of Danny's and the North theme? Starts with the first few notes of Danny's theme and kind of melds into a variation of the North Remembers.

I always wonder about Jon Snow's mother. Ned refused to discuss much about her. I wondered if she was a Targaryen or a Baratheon or.....

I think Jon's mother will probably end up being quite important as houses and families are such a big deal.

Incredible episode in every way imaginable.

Sansa ****ing rocks. That is all.

I'm also starting to believe that the "gods" actually walk among them. Varys and Littlefinger are building this mass unification to fight the White Walkers. That actually seems to truly be their end game.

If that's the case, it would be the biggest twist in the show's history as it would mean everything that we know of the characters to this point is a total misdirect.

The two characters are the epitome of the game of thrones. They are politically driven creatures, doing whatever is necessary to further their own standing, political agenda, consolidation of power, etc. Even Varys, who gets a pass by the fandom because he is working for the "good guys" is guilty of this. They've basically plunged Westeros into a state of war and chaos to further their agenda. If Varys's destination is similar to that in the books he is going to [blackout]kill Pycelle and Kevan Lannister because their efforts are actually stabilizing the realm and he wants it in a state of perpetual chaos to make it easier for the Targaryens[/blackout]. These wars and minor political struggles are the reason that the realm is in no way equipped to take on the White Walkers, and at the end of the day, the blame for that falls almost exclusively at the feet of Littlefinger and Varys.

If it is revealed that they are really doing it to defend the realm, it would definitely require some logic jujitsu to explain a lot of their moves. In addition, it would kind of undercut Martin's entire message of the book series (those with power engage in their petty struggles to preserve their power, often at the expense of those that they are supposed to serve and lead).

very true

at this point with all the forshadowing with Dany and Jon they have to related or end up marrying each other

That's where I was going. Unification of houses seems to be a big deal (ala Tolkien).

More ala Tudor. Uniying the Houses York and Lancaster to create the Tudor house, and bring an end to the War of the Roses ( from which GoT is mostly based)

sry for my english

Very similar to Baltar and Six from Battlestar.

But I wouldn't say that Varys is as responsible for the state of the 7 kingdoms as Littlefinger. Everything Varys did was for the "good of the realm". He was always looking to provide the stability and Littlefinger wanted the chaos.

I thought you had to die north of the wall?

A guy went zombie at castle black a few seasons ago so I'm not sure if you need to be north of the wall.

I was talking in the context of when/if the White Walkers make it past the wall into the seven kingdoms in regards to Rickon.

Yeah but at least going based on his book arc [blackout]good of the realm seems to translate to him as for the good of the Targaryen Dynasty. It seems that, at his essence, he is just a Targaryen loyalist who has been taking steps to restore them to the throne since the day that the Mad King died. That doesn't say that he is doing what is good for the realm as Dany or Aegon could turn out horribly...hell, Aegon's temperament indicates that he will be a terrible king, but Varys is pushing ahead. I think "for the good of the realm" is how he justifies it to himself. But in the end, he is doing what is best for the political faction he supports, nothing more.[/blackout]

Great episode. Not as good as Hardhome (the best battle sequence since LOTR) but pretty damn close. But in terms of pure emotional pay off, boy did it deliver.
