Season 6, Episode 9 "Battle of the Bastards" Discussion Thread

So, I figure he's from House Stark and Targaryen. It makes the most sense because he's clearly an important character and is clearly in some way tied to Daenerys.

The only Baratheons in Ned Stark's adulthood were the three brothers Robert, Stannis and Renly. The only Targaryens were Aerys and his wife, their eldest son Rhaegar, Viserys and then Dany born some time after Jon. So there's no candidates amongst them for Jon's mother. A Stark on the other hand...

So I guess I'm right and wrong. Just assumed Ned was the father, but that makes sense. I wonder if she was really kidnapped. Jon could have a strong claim to the crown. I think the Starks are going to be everywhere when all is said and done. Winterfell, Riverrun, Spooky mystical Bran living in a cave, Braavos??, King's Landing.

If so, that would make Dani and Jon half, well, half a lot of things. Those crazy Targaryens......beats boinking your twin I guess.

Aunt and Nephew

Jon can't get with anyone at this point. Come season 7, all the female characters of note will be related to him :hehe:
I will be interested to find out how he is related to Cersei. It is going to be some Space Balls stuff. :funny:

Hahahaha, at any rate, even if the two marry, I doubt it will be a marriage of love. It will probably be quite sad, for both of them. Both of their loves, Drago and Ygritte are dead. When the Red Woman tried to seduce Jon last season, he made it quite clear that he was turning her down because he still loved Ygritte. And we all know Dany still loves DRago. I doubt either will ever recover, but they will do their duty for the good of the realm.

Except Yara, but ya know, he's not really her type. :cwink:

I think when they read the books and saw that she has a love interest called "Qarl the Maid" they took things a bit...literally.

I think I have a touch of the ague.

I'll be right as rain soon, right as rain, yes I will. Right as rain will I be, yes.

Jon's one true love was Robb Stark according to tumblr :lmao:

The books try their damndest to tell us she wasnt kidnapped without outright saying it.

I always forget about that theory. Even if she and Jaime are bastards Im not sure the show will include it. They may not want to reveal R+L=J and then turn around and reveal A+J=C&J for fear of turning things into the Maury show.:funny:

i hadn't heard she and jamie were the bastard children, but i've heard rumors that tyrion wasnt tywins

yea the mad king wanted to bang tywins wife for a while and people think he did

So what do you guys think was the in-story reason for Sansa not at least sharing the information about her letter to the Vale with Jon? And do you think the reason was adequately explained?

Because I think the episode overall is still one of the best, but this seems to be the only real flaw with the characters and battle.

I think it's one of those things where fans pick up on something and misinterpret it and the misinterpretation gains popularity. Cersei is definitely becoming another Aerys and there's a thematic legacy between the two characters, but I don't think that necessarily means he's related.

In the finale, Jon and Sansa have a talk and he will most likely ask her why she didnt tell him and she'll give her reasons.

I am watching it again, for like the 4th time. I do not believe Jon says one intelligible word from the moment they line up to when he speaks to Sansa after the battle. I believe all he says is, "ya" to his horse to hurry it up and he tries to say something to the man he tries to talk to during the oner. That would mean he says like three words the entire battle. And yet all that emotion. Great work from Kit.

I also feel like surviving the almost suffocation and seeing Ramsay vulnerable finally woke Jon up. Like he wasn't really Jon since his return until that moment.

The crew and director called that the "rebirthing shot". It's an apt name for it.

I would say when Rickon was shot was more of a 'wake up'... from then on out he just ****ing owned ass.
