Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings General Discussion and Speculation thread

I agree with whoever wrote that this was one of the better solo Marvel projects. I really loved it. In particular the movie felt more authentic with all the Chinese dialog. Visually, I think my favorite scene has to be the meet cute fight between Shung Chi mom and dad - that was breathtaking visuals and incredible fight choreography. The whole movie was Mulan meets Avatar - TLA meets Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon meets Marvel movie.

This movie is everything I wanted Mortal Kombat to have been, and everything I want the Netflix Avatar The Last Airbender series to be like. A perfect blend of fantasy and action.

For MCU introductory solo films it’s probably only behind Iron Man and Black Panther for me. If we look at solo sequels too then TWS and Ragnarok would also jump ahead. Great start to this franchise though.

Yes! I much prefer real dialogue with subtitles over a dub which robs the performance and authenticity.

This was GREAT. I was wrong on nearly every front about this movie, I'd even go as far as to say it's the BEST MCU origin film
I agree, especially if we don't count the first guardian movie with has an ensemble cast. Such a great movie, I can't wait to see it again.

What's with all the Black Widow slander? I love that movie. Imho phase 4 has been great except for Falcon and the winter soldier. Marvel keeps getting better and Eternals and No way home looks like they will be great too.

Yeah BW is just a smaller scale film, still good/enjoyable IMO. I love the family aspect to it. I like the shows too, including Falcon although the last episode let it down a bit and the villain was absolutely terrible. There are so many exciting upcoming films and shows too. Exciting times and it looks like the MCU will continue to go from strength to strength post Endgame.

I personally just felt bored during Black Widow, I didnt feel compelled by the story and the action scenes werent nearly as well done and memorable as Shang Chi's. But I do plan on rewatching BW when it debuts on Disney + and hoping I'll like it more.

I quite liked Black Widow as well, especially Jelena or Yelena - however her name is spelled, but the 3rd act wasn't as good as the rest of the film for me. I felt that Taskmaster needed more development - I guessed that it was the bad guy's daughter and I like the twist, but I needed more.

And ultimately, it's all subjective. I for example don't hold Back Panther so high on my list, I found the movie generic other then the fact that the main protagonist and most of the cast were black. It was an interesting view at African culture, and the costuming was beautiful. The 3rd act fight was a CGI mess, far greater then the one in Shung Chi. It's on par for me with Captain Marvel, but below say Doctor Strange.

I'm jacked to see it, but can't go until Tuesday. They aren't showing it at my go-to Cinemark XD theater until 3:40, but there's another nearby Playa Vista Cinemark that's showing it around 12:45 so I'll go to that one. I think I'll order a pizza. I haven't eaten theater food (only been to 4 movies so far after not going for a year and a half), but I guess a pizza hot out of the oven should be okay.

This movie was my first in theaters since Rise of Skywalker. Went to a Dolby AMC theater with those nice leather recliners. Looked like my local AMC did some renovations during the pandemic because they certainly didn’t have that the last time I was there.

We have a couple of AMC theaters in the marina (Marina del Rey). One is your standard 7 or 8 theater and the other is a dine in. They only have maybe 30 or so seats in the largest theater and charge a fortune, but the seats are leather recliners that are about 3 feet wide. They'll bring you food if you want to pay about $15 an ounce for steak.....but it comes with some potatoes.....

I forgot I did a mini review on my website of the Marina AMC Dine-In Theater. The prices were from a WAAAAAAAAAAY LONNNNNNNNNG TIME AGO. LOL. I'll bet their pizzas are about $20 now. LOL.

Reviewing the AMC Marina 6 Dine In Theater – Marina del Rey

EDIT: Jesus.....I'm gonna have to edit that review. I don't want everyone to know I'm an idiot who repeats himself.....

What is with the massive influx of fans suggesting Danny Rand star in the sequel? Do these folks have any idea how tone deaf that would be? :funny"

(I'm gonna guess that's a no)

It was a smaller scale film until it decided it wanted to be a bigger scale film and had another generic third act with things falling from the sky.

So....when is the quality of these movies going to dip like some keep claiming now that the Infinity Saga is over? Cause....it ain't starting with this one. This movie is awesome

I mean. . . being fair, I'd say Black Widow was a bit of a quality dip? Of course, most franchises would *love* if they had dips "down" to the quality of Black Widow, since it was still a solid and entertaining movie. Just a bit mid-tier, and deflated by being a prequel for a deceased hero.

I aint talking about maybe 1 movie that may be considered disappointing. I am talking about a trend. People have been saying this Phase will suck compared to Phase 3, and so far I am not seeing this quality dip people have been proclaiming would come. Not across the board. Even of we call Black Widow and maybe F&WS disappointing, Wandavision, Loki, and Shang-Chi have been awesome. The quality is still there

Well, as a result of this movie, future appearances in the MCU by Shang Chi will be met by an eruption of cheers in the theater.

It will be interesting to see the reactions of Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan in the Marvels since not everyone who watches the MCU watches WandaVision or will watch Ms. Marvel.

Can someone quickly explain the scene when shang and his team go through the waterfall to his moms village? Was that on earth or another dimension?

if the characters are good and fleshed out like shang chi and a mobius in loki were then there wont be any issues. Outside of captain marvel, feige and co have proven they can take unknown characters and make the masses rallying behind them.
