The point was that you'd dismissed Sharon as unfit for anything other than a romance subplot.
Yeah... okay, you're completely misreading my posts. Again.
I never, ever,
ever said I thought Sharon was unfit for a romantic subplot. I only expressed
my doubt that a movie this packed full of story can do a sufficient amount of time with a love story with Sharon and Steve AND maybe, just maybe develop her character outside of that relationship.
I don't want a romance with Cap shoehorned in awkwardly as if to fulfill some Hollywood ideal that this movie has to have romance in it to appeal to some.... that detracts from my enjoyment of the plot, if all Sharon is there for is to **** Steve.
Hell, I loved Nat and Steve in TWS, and though I loved their chemistry, I ADORE their friendship even more. I love the dynamic created by Peggy and Steve. I want to see something similar happen with Steve and Sharon, while the filmmakers take care to build her character.
NEVER EVER EVER did I say that I thought she was unfit for a romance with Steve, at least the movie version. I want this version to improve on the comics version, which has rarely ever worked well for me, save the Waid era of Cap comics. The writers cannot seem to get Sharon right beyond being a damsel in distress, or fridged for Cap. I even want her to get her own book or mini by a writer who gets the character, who can delve more into her character beyond whatever she is for Cap.
And I want the movie to do the same thing, especially if the path for her character eventually does end up with Steve down the road in IW.
BUT, and I have also always said this... if a romance is to happen in CW, then it should happen organically from the narrative, and the two actors should have chemistry. I haven't seen enough between Steve and Sharon yet to make that assessment. So, I am willing to keep an open mind.
