Should they make another Punisher movie?

The character development in the EC is great. The EC makes Frank's arc so much more immersive.

Sometimes I feel like Im the only person who prefers Thomas Jane over Ray Stevenson. Stevenson may have looked the part, but Thomas Jane acted it and brought a new sense of humanity to the character which we havent seen since Year One. Plus his voice was fantastic for the role (even more obvious in the video game) and I thought he looked fine for the role. Who cares if he wasnt huge like RS in real life generally people dont look like Frank in the comics.

I definitely agree. I liked Ray well enough in the role, but for me, Jane nailed the character down to a T. He did a tremendous job portraying every aspect of the character into one very nicely balanced and rounded portrayal. Couldn't agree more on his voice for Frank, either. His voice is for Frank as Kevin Conroy's voice is for Batman. If we ever get a Punisher animated series (one aimed at mature audiences, of course), it's Jane or nobody else for the voice of Frank.

That's because Jane's Castle was better written. If you would have switched actors between the two movies you would say Ray is FC.

Not quite. It comes down to performance. If Stevenson couldn't deliver the performance, it wouldn't matter how well-written the character is.

And Stevenson did everything right with what was given to him which wasn't much. There's nothing Jane could've done to make the Castle in PW any better. Everyone got to see the human side of Frank in the 2004 version. There was tons more to work with in 2004.

i hope we get some news about what Marvel plans on doing with The Punisher.

I hope we get some news, too. I have my fingers crossed Jane will be back although I'm not getting my hopes up :(

Though I liked the Jane Punisher film better than the Stevenson one and thought that Jane's Punisher was better written and well acted, I think Stevenson did a good job with the material he was given.

Stevenson was the best part of PWZ. I think Jigsaw, Looney Bin Jim and some of the campiness ruined the film. It should've been hardcore and Jigsaw should have been more like Mark Strong's gangster in Kick-Ass. Instead PWZ had Jigsaw acting like a low-rent Joker, circa 1989. Or maybe even Tommy Lee Jones's Two-Face.

It's a shame too because I thought PWZ had some strong casting with Stevenson, Benz, Salmon, Knight, and the dude that played Soap. But the villains were mostly horrible. And the "Italian" gangsters had horrible accents. I don't know why they didn't go with some guys who could play those type of roles in their sleep like Burt Young (Paulie from the Rocky films) for example. I'm sure he couldn't have been too expensive to get. Or some of the Sopranos actors. And the black Irish dude that was leaping around. WTF? That's not menacing at all, and don't get me started on Looney Bin Jim.

Jane's Punisher had much better villains. I liked Travolta's laid back Howard Saint, his ruthless wife, the main henchman, and of course the Russian. All were more believable, all conveyed menace. Also, Jane's Punisher used his head and not just his muscles, which I thought was pretty neat.

Stevenson would have been terrible in the 04 movie.

I dont think he wouldve been that great.
He can play the Punisher fine, but I cant see him as Frank Castle. You know paling around, hanging out with his family, being a normal guy. He has a very cold demeanor in everything I've seen him in.

I think Stevenson could've worked, but that entire movie and the role in that film felt like it was made for Jane and Jane only. His performance feels very organic in that movie, like it was meant for him.

I agree with EVERYTHING you said.

I didn't think Jane was the best choice for the role, but what won me over was how hard the guy worked. He embraced the character and he was totally dedicated. Jane is a comic fan himself. I remember being at the Dallas Comic-con where he appeared...and there he was looking through boxes like everyone else! He mainly likes the old EC horror comics, but he's a fan none-the less, and he made a great effort to bring fans a respectable Frank Castle..including doing a LOT of his own stunts. He took Frank very seriously, which is something that really won my respect.

i have a good feeling Jane will be back if they do go for a sequel

I love how Thomas Jane would always say something cool before he left the room.

I didn't start getting into Punisher until the "Welcome Back, Frank" story, so Jane really embodied that version for me and worked as the character a lot more than Stevenson. He did okay with what he was given, but the 2004 movie was far superior in my opinion.

The 2004 film is way better than PWZ... but Stevenson wasnt a bad Punisher...

In fact I go back and forth on who I prefer - Jane or Stevenson.

Jane, like someone above said, was more "human", but Stevenson was the bad-a ss

I prefer Jane over Stevenson. Stevenson did a good job and I didn't mind him at all, but there was something I really liked about Jane's performance, his voice, his eyes, his body language and posture. I wouldn't mind seeing him again.

I wish that the Toro brothers were in the comics. They were hilarious.

You dont get a wrist slap in prison. You get a *female dog synonym* slap

Well, they shot in Canada, so pretty much any minor role had to go to a Canadian actor.

That's a good way of looking at it, but I think Jane definitely became more hardcore towards the end of the 2004 movie with his assault on the Saint nightclub. Beyond that, the added scene in the 2004 EC with

Jimmy Weekes being driven to kill himself

is quite grim. Frank didn't even need to pull a gun for that to happen, just a simple little mind game.

While I appreciate and enjoy what Stevenson and even Dolph brought to the role, Jane for me embodied a little bit of everything that makes The Punisher a good character and nailed it perfectly.

Agreed. The Toro Brothers were pure Garth Ennis, too, despite being original to the movie. Especially the smaller guy. He was just such a weasel.

anyways, I found War Zone today, the 2 disc one, for 4 bucks, brand new. I kind of died a little. But it beats having a downloaded copy. But i wanna watch it with commentary. For those who actually bothered to listen to it, was it any good?

The thing is Daredevil is still probably owned by Fox while Punisher's rights have reverted. I feel the best way to do Punisher instead of rebooting completely yet again is too have Frank Castle as a detective in a new Daredevil series. Hypothetically, he is on the case to find DD in the first one, the tragedy happens at the beginning of the second one where he becomes basically the villain of the story. The third one is either a team up or that arc where Murdock is revealed to be DD,goes to jail, and Punisher goes inside to protect him (that happened right? I jumped on right after that because I heard so many good things)
