Hideo Kojima said that he'd like to work on a Silent Hill game one day. Expect significant levels of awesomeness.
That's interesting. Because I'm in the middle of writing SH fan fiction. It starts out in the 1800's, and the charcter is a murderer who wakes up in Toluca Prison, waiting to be executed by the PH's. He escapes the prison however. The story then cuts to the present, and his great, great grandson visits Silent Hill and has to pay for his grandfather's sins. So PH will be haunting him, because even though the character doesn't know about SH's history, he is receiving memories from his ancestor. But of course there's the twist at the end![]()
I think Konami needs to pull a Resident Evil 4 to save the franchise.
The first 3 Silent Hill games are my definite favorites and I would love to see the series reach a new level of awesomeness.

4 originally wasn't supposed to be a Silent Hill game. I think Konami forced Team Silent to rush that game after the success of 3, and slap the name SH onto it.
It's fun, but challenging lol. What I think they try to recreate in the games is that aspect first introduced in Silent Hill 2, the symbolism and viewers interpretation of what they're looking at. So I've followed as closely as I can to the first 4 games. When I'm writing the details in the story, I stop and think hard about what I'm going to describe, and not only that, describe it in a way that makes the reader think, like the games would. So from the character's perspective, I describe what they're seeing and their feelings regarding it.Léo Ho Tep;24332415 said:Interesting. I want to write a fan fiction about Silent Hill as well. I'm looking forward for yours!
Yeah, I liked it really. It's the most terrifying one imo.Léo Ho Tep;24332415 said:That's an urban legend. a lot of people think it wasn't supposed to be a silent hill game, but it seems it was since day 1. I love this game. It introduced me to the mythos. and I think it's an interesting addition to the mythos.

The story I'm writing changes from 3rd person in the past, to 1st person in the present.
For example, this is an excerpt from the character from the past and his story -
"As he was dragged from his cell, the thoughts of his looming death raced through his mind, blotting out the screams and taunts from the damned. If he were to die this way, what would be awaiting him? Would it be God and Her sanctuary of eternal paradise, having been forgiven for his evil acts in life? Of course not. It would only be the Devil and His Kingdom of Hell, welcoming him with open arms for being his servant. But what if he refused to venture towards his fate? What if he were to escape it? What if he were to die this way and not be taken to his new eternal home? Wonder the Earth in purgatory was certainly a comforting thought. Or, even as he was drawing closer to the executioners and their fair hands of justice, what if were to escape his death at this very moment? That was his plan now...to escape it all."
So this is an old fashioned and deep thinker, named Thomas Smith. He knows about and believes in Silent Hill's God. He knows about the Pyramid Head's, which I've only described at this point as 'the executioners'. He's a character who fears death and doesn't want to go to Hell for his crimes, so he fears if he dies at their hands this way, he's going to be dragged down. But if he escapes his execution and dies another way, he will remain forever in purgatory, which he prefers the idea of.
Now his descendant, he knows nothing about Silent Hill, he doesn't understand it. And since he is more pure minded than his ancestor, his thoughts are more primal fear and confusion, nothing really straight. I'm trying to give the reader an uncomfortable feeling that he's about to go insane or die from fright any second lol
Cause the thing I picked up on in Downpour, is that Murphy Pendelton becomes terrified and he has fear in his face. Other characters, obviously being PS2 and all, don't show their fear or anything. Like they're OK with what's going on.
So I based Grant, simply on Murphy's fearful reaction to Silent Hill. Even in the writing, Murphy is the most realisitic written person imo.
So this is the difference with Grant. This is the scene where he shifts into the Otherworld of the Lakeview Hotel (which has been repaired now after SH2)
"I dropped to the floor in agony, screaming and crying. The pain in my head was unbearable, like my brain was trying to break out of my skull. The room then began to fill with horrific sounds, sounds I couldn't describe in a million years. They grew louder and louder, so I covered my ears, but the sounds were not from the outside, but in my head. I was scared...I closed my eyes and thought I was going to die. Then was it my life flashing before me? I saw images of my parents, my family and friends. Their faces and bodies twisting and contorting, being replaced by the sight of grotesque creatures. Even though I felt I was dying, I had to open my eyes to escape the horror of what I was seeing in my head...My eyes couldn't have been open though. Because what I saw next was what you can only surely see from your eyes being closed, in a nightmare, or a delusion, right before you die. The Hotel room around me began to slowly change and melt away...Surely, I had died and gone to Hell?"
So that's that partBut if you notice the writing, which I'm trying to keep consistent. Thomas is a man who feared going to Hell for his crimes, so his thoughts and feelings of Hell have passed on to Grant. The Otherworld has taken the theme of Thomas' idea of what Hell will be for him. I thought it would be fun to explore what Hell would actually be like in Silent Hill, since even though every game sure looks like it, it's not lol
And of course, there will be a main monster who will be referred to as the "Devil", which will be interesting, as it's all part of Thomas' mind
Yeah, I liked it really. It's the most terrifying one imo.
I was thinking on what they could do for the future. Wouldn't it be cool if we had a character like Tim Burton in Silent Hill? Some creepy artist or visionary who has all his crazy ideas come to life? lol
Thanks manLéo Ho Tep;24415561 said:IMO, what you're doing seems really interesting. I like the change of perspective. I was just wondering: did you try to write the stuff in present day, in present form? Maybe it would be more frightening? But still, I do like what you show us! Makes me want to read the whole story!
Tim Burton wouldn't be lost in Silent Hill, he would be right at home haha!
Thanks man
I did try to write it in the present, at that very moment, as if it was unfolding right in front of the characters eyes. But I just couldn't do it lol. It was slowing the pace of the storytelling![]()
That'd be a decent idea, but first, do you have a PS3? If so your options are not as limited. The first game is on the PS Network store. SH 2 and 3 were released as an HD collection this year that garnered mixed reviews, but a major patch came out for the PS3 version only that fixed a multitude of problems. SH 4 is a problem, as I have no idea if it has made its way to the PS2 Classics line on the Network store or not, so for now PS 2 seems th only option. SH: 0rigins does have a PS2 version, however you can play it on PSP. Likewaise, SH: Shattered Memories (which is not a main game, instead a reinagining, but not a remake at all, of the first game) is on the Wii, but has a PSP release that was fantastic. Laslty, Homecoming and Downpour were next gen titles, so both are available on PS3 or Xbox 360, whatever you choose. What are my options if I want to play the games, starting with the first one? I should prolly buy a ps2 right?

Although this post has run too long already, a lot of people may tell you SH 4 is skippable based on it being the hardest to find, but truly it is a fantastic game worth playing, and I'd hope you track it down and play it. Some of the games do relate, and some have connections that might help understand the story a little better.
SH3 is a direct sequel to the original game.
SH4 expands upon the story of a murderer mentioned in notes in SH 2.
0rigins is a direct prequel to the original game.
Homecoming uses the cult prominent in 0/1/3 but isn't a direct sequel.
Downpour has references to all past games, but has no single connection.
Shattered Memories is not a main series game, but a fantastic reimagining.
