Silent Hill: Revelations

I don't remember Walter seeing PH. But it would make sense giving his history and knowledge of the cult. However, I don't recall him ever feeling the need to be punished for his sins of murder. I know he felt guilty when he killed the Billy and Miriam Locane, that's why they never turned into ghosts like his other victims. But did he want to be punished? Giving he see's what he's doing as a way to see his mother on an unstoppable mission, I'd say, no. So how did he see PH then?

When was this?

We don't get to see this meeting. But at the beginning of SH2, next to a building, you can find a letter from Walter. and in that letter, he explains how he saw Pyramid Head. He doesn't call him that, but the way he describes him, it's clear it's Pyramid Head.

I thought it was really interesting. I also like how other people can meet in Silent Hill and see the ghosts of the hero, as well as theirs.

About Walter, I think what is important is that he just saw Pyramid Head. He wasn't chased by him. That could mean even if he doesn't want to be punished, he knows he should be.

so many memories...I really hope they adapt Silent Hill 4 at some point.

Is that near the Bluecreek Apartments? I just remember the article about Walter's suicide from the trash shoot. Unless it was that? Lol

Yeah that was good. Too bad they don't really ackowledge that anymore in the games.

I agree. I think PH came to him because of tiny niggling feeling of guilt, but his desire wasn't strong enough to warrant his own death. Or maybe it was because the town itself wanted Walter to succeed in rebirthing God? Or is it a seperate issue altogether?

It's interesting also that the monsters in Silent Hill work to attack you for different reasons.

Harry was attacked because all of the negative feelings in Alessa's head.
James was attacked because of his own guilt.
Heather, because the monsters from Claudia's head are trying to hasten God's birth.
Henry was attacked because of Walter's need to kill him for the 21 Sacraments.

If I remember correctly, it's behind the blue creek appartment indeed. But It's been a while, so I'm not sure anymore if the person that sees PH is Walter or the janitor of the place.

Alex was attacked because he was still alive and was showing the true face of Shepher Glen, which made their guilt stronger, and they were resentful towrd him not only because of that, but also because they thought that him being alive was their doom, since he was supposed to be sacrificed. You know what, I've liked every single SH games until now (I still have to play downpour sadly), and I do think Homecoming is way better than most people think. The story, while not as subtle as the others SH, is interesting, and well thought out. Also, I really like how each ending totally change the story. Also, i was quite happy with the gameplay. It was still frightening in hard mode, but it wasn't because the gameplay sucked. It was because even if you were more of a fighter, there was a real threat. I even think it was an interesting idea to put some human as enemies, since it shows how the real monsters are not always the one you think.

In that regard, I was pleased with what they did in the first Silent Hill movie. I loved the whole witch burning thing, because it showed how crazy these people were, and how they weren't even doing it in the name of a so called paradise. They were a treat as much as the creatures, which wasn't the case in the first game. While Dahlia and the order were really antagonists, there was no sense of threat from them. But they were scary as hell in the movie, because their fanatism was reminescent of how crazy some people are in real life. We don't burn people anymore because we think they are witches, but real people can burn others (litterally). I hope they will use the witch burning angle differently in Revelations, but I'm confident this movie will be scary because of the monsters and because of the human as well.

I also hope someone (I think it's doubtful it will be Vincent this time) will say "really you think they are monsters?". It was such an eerie moment in SH3

Yes. I remember reading something about PH appearing to somebody else in SH2, but not I'm sure it was Walter.

I liked Homecoming as well. I wasn't fussy on the combat controls, but it's creepiness and storyline were pretty good to me. Downpour is MUCH worse however, but I love that game. However, I would advise you to wait for the patch before playing it. Because the game slows and stops when autosaving, and the framerate is terrible in some areas. But it's a great game for exploration, sidequests and scares :D

Even to this day, I still wonder if Heather did kill people...They were followers of Claudia, as witnessed by the Missioniary monster. I think Vincent only said that to calm and reassure her...

Thanks for the advice. How long is the game? I've read that it's 20 hours long thanks to the sidequest? And are those side quests good? Can you really freeroam?

About Heather, I don't think she really killed people, but I like not being sure about it :)

What do you think about shattered memories?

Yes. Just over 20 hours actually, depending on the difficulty, that's included with side-missions. You can free roam, it's a pretty big area altogether. You can go underground through the subway entrances, and you walk into this black mist that transports you to other subway areas spread around. So it saves you time from walking distances :)

Yeah, it still spooks me to this day though. Things are so ambiguous :p

I loved SM. I see a lot of stick against it from people, but I thought it was great. It was innovative and really fun. I still play it today, I never get bored. I haven't had all the endings yet, so I keep going back and try to do things differently, just waiting to see what plays out :D

I would have liked to have seen that psychological profile thing used in Downpour actually. Because Downpour is a game based on morals, what's right and wrong. I know you get choices which determine your character and therefore your ending, but I would've loved to seen SM's idea used in that.

Say you stared at porn too much in Downpour, and you get labeled a sex fiend at the end lol

Thanks for the answer!

that would have been great to see the psychological profile again ^^

I checked in the book of lost memories. It was indeed Walter who saw "a red monster". The description fits Pyramid Head. And while PH was a product of James psyche, we know that the executionners in Silent Hill put pyramid helmets on when they were on duty. So I think it's reasonnable to think that other people could be pursued by the same kind of boogeyman, even if it's not THE pyramid head.

Aren't the Bogeymen similar version of PH? And at some point in Downpour (I think) [BLACKOUT]your character becomes one of them[/BLACKOUT].

I just read that:

"Silent Hill used to be the place of execution, away from cities. That was secret and sacred place. Heinous criminals are transferred to that place and get executed. That place existed only for that reason. Thus all village people are executioners or family of executioners. Executioners needed to wear a mask at the event so they do not directly witness their spear when it was piercing flesh. Time have past, only memory of execution lingered, got enhanced and formed the roaming illusion of Silent Hill. Pyramid head is distorted memory of the executioners."

Me, too. I also like that SH the town is not about Alessa.

yeah, SH2 was great because it shows that the town is now bigger than the order or Alessa.

Not just SH2. Homecoming did a fantastic job at showing it, too, all the while expanding the Order.

of course, but SH2 did it first. I don't understand why people despise homecoming that much, when it has so many great things, be in in its story, or in its gameplay.

I think I prefer SH2 and Homecoming to SH3. I mean, I like SH3 because of the whole continuing the Mason family story, but I found the others more innovative and bold in terms of story.

SH3 is basically a remake of SH1 to me. Except it's Heather fighting against the order this time.

Pretty much. Here's hoping the movie will be different.

I still like SH3 very much because the atmosphere is great and so are the settings though.

That's interesting. Because I'm in the middle of writing SH fan fiction. It starts out in the 1800's, and the charcter is a murderer who wakes up in Toluca Prison, waiting to be executed by the PH's. He escapes the prison however. The story then cuts to the present, and his great, great grandson visits Silent Hill and has to pay for his grandfather's sins. So PH will be haunting him, because even though the character doesn't know about SH's history, he is receiving memories from his ancestor. But of course there's the twist at the end :D

I think Konami needs to pull a Resident Evil 4 to save the franchise.
