Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

I was kind of hoping they'd reuse the Cell song from the first trailer. :o

Would have been a much better choice. Same with the character titles.

Great line opening with Marv in this new one.

I'm not sure why, but for some reason this trailer made me think more of The Spirit than Sin City.

And that's not a good thing.

Yup. The Spirit felt like a toothless fan-made version of Sin City. This carries exactly the same vibe. Just, uninspired.

I think partly the reason this looks so bad to people is because of how amazing the first film is, it's literally a timeless classic and everyones expectations are so high that anything less than stellar is going to be a "horrible ripoff" or a parody of the first film.

I can admit I felt something similar when I first watched the first teaser for the new 300 but then the full trailer changed my mind, though I can agree with you guys the teaser isn't amazing just seeing the new footage looked good to me.

This is by no means anywhere near as bad as The Spirit, that my friends is one of the worst films EVER made.

Looked a little cheap to me. Can't put my finger on it

The actual content really looked no worse or more cheap than the first movie. Anyone who thinks that is, I think, looking at the original through rose colored glasses.

Looked fine to me. I liked the first film, this looks about on par.

Not sure if it was really badly done, or it's just been too long. But that trailer did absolutely nothing for me.

I LOVE the first movie, but I'm not really feeling that trailer for some reason.
Just kind of.....eh

dat Jessica Alba though.

Its a poorly cut trailer, but that's irrelevant. The same actors and talent made the first film also made this one and it has the look of the first film. The trailer makes that very clear. Im sold.

While it did not have the epic musical track of the first film's original trailer, it looks like it could measure up. Let's not put the first one on a pedestal, it is a very fun bit neo noir, exploitation with a brilliant visual style. This looks like more of the same, which is fitting for an anthological series like this.

This. Im a big fan of the first one and I really cant imagine how other fans wouldnt be excited for this. It aint the best trailer, but all the talent is there to at the very least give us a film as good as the first one. If thats not something to get excited about I dont know what is.

I'm not really excited because it feels like this style was done to death after the original Sin City was released. And I think everything Rodriguez has directed since has looked poor and not interested me in the least.

Not getting the spirit comparison. Say what you will about the execution of the trailer but the footage itself definitely looks like its perfectly in sync with the original sin city. Literally the first thing that popped up in my head was that "it looks just like the first one, thank god"

I liked it. Music didn't bother me, though The Cells song from the first was much better.

The first film is far from perfect, and had plenty of cheese. But it also had characters and performances that cut through that. That brought the film to life. You could see it from the first trailer. A smart match of visuals and music. This footage looks clean.

Now while Sin City was highly stylized, it also felt genuine for the most part. This trailer really feels like a pale imitation. And considering the director Robert Rodriguez has become, I don't think it is that far fetched to think that is what we are going to end up with. There is a reason this took so long to be made and I don't think it was just because there was no time. More likely the lack of real creative spark, considering the first one pretty much said it all.

Also, am I really to believe that Alba can carry a section by herself? That and the bit part Marv story right there already makes me think of this as "leftovers".

Yeah like others the trailer didnt really do anything for me, hopefully a full trailer can get me excited again but right now I just feel 'meh' about this.

Maybe im just feeling overly optimistic, but I just dont see the reason for the negativity...yet. Its just a teaser trailer.

It's not a novelty anymore because we already saw a Sin City which was very revolutionary in recreating Miller's imagery.

It's always like this on fanboy message boards Marvolo. A teaser gets released and people forget what a teaser/announcement trailer is supposed to be like. They expect the very first teaser to get heavy into the plot like the final trailers do.

I thought the first Sin City was okay for what it was and this film looks okay for what it is. RR's not exactly my type of director so I expect very little. As long as it's better than that boring misguided mess Machete I'll give it a DVD viewing.

Is there a reason to be optimistic yet? And this coming from someone who is going to see it no matter what. Eva Green running around half naked is all I needed to know. :funny:

So teasers should only have positive reactions?
