I have a feeling that Star Trek will have a huge opening weekend, and Wolverine will have a steep drop because of it.

Don't want to go off topic but I think Star Trek will make more than the 67.3 million opening. I can't see this movie that has been getting so much attention make less than Wolverine OW.
Yeah I'm thinking something like 80-90-ish million opening. :ST: will have a tremendous OW

Well Wolvie here got 85 million OW, so...yeah. :funny:

Wolverine's drops over OW almost matched SM3's drops, except a teeny bit worse percentage-wise. Dunno why the weekdays suck in comparison, though. Both were released in May, so school shouldn't be a factor.

Because SM3 was better :o

Well I don't know how much they (:ST:) are expecting but it'd seem like well earned money for a decent movie. Whereas X-Men in the title of any movie will obviously make some bank the first weekend. That's why it seems different to me.

I think the drop is going to bigger than 67%, maybe as much as 75%. I'm going from the Monday and Tuesday numbers which have dropped more sharply than I expected.

As Fox announced two new projects over the last two days, it doesn't seem like they're waiting to see if this has legs. They can write-off the decline as the true cost of the leak.

I think that by the end of this week it will have $120 million or close.

Nah. Even X3 didn't drop more than 70%. The only recent comic book movie this happened to was Hellboy 2, and that's because TDK steamrolled it in its second weekend. Star Trek will be big, but it certainly isn't THAT big.

Most of Wolverine's drop will be due to bad WOM or the X-men movies just not having a lot of legs in general, not Star Trek.

How much do you think it will make OW? *holds voice recorder 3 centimeters from your mouth & nose*

Exactly. I'm really looking forward to StarTrek but I would be shocked if it opened with over 85mil.

I hope Wolverine performs terribly the second weekend. The X-Men franchise is a gold mine and Fox seems to just f**k up any and everything it gets its hands on. HOW DO YOU MESS THIS UP?! I'm not even a Wolverine fan, but I know he is very popular among the general audience and has a very loyal fanbase.

It's almost hard to believe that the tycoons at Fox are college graduates. Despite all that has happened, I think 85 million is pretty weak for a Wolverine film (especially considering X-men is in the title).

About six of my friends wanted to see this movie over the weekend, and I convinced them to get drunk and play Super Smash Brothers Brawl instead. I'm glad I saved them from wasting their money on this travesty.

Yep.....then comes the underestimated Trekkie and Trekkers this weekend and then Angels and Demons and then Terminator.

It is pretty weak considering some movies make that on Friday alone.

85 million weak? I think people's expectations are too high. That's a pretty good opening for a solo flick, especially one that was leaked a month beforehand and has mixed word of mouth.

 What movie has made that much on a Friday alone? From my knowledge the only film to come close to that is The Dark Knight with 67 million on it's first Friday. Heck, only a handful of films have made 40+ million on a Friday.

Spider-Man 3 made 80 million or close to it opening day I believe and 151 million opening weekend. X3 made 60 something opening day and 123 opening weekend. The Dark Knight made 158 opening weekend. Iron Man made 102 million opening weekend so yeah...it is a pretty weak opening. It isn't because of the swine flu and it isn't because of the leak. It is because the movie is mediocre.

$85 million for a solo flick is actually really good. Wolverine was lacking his team from the X-Men films, so for people to actually go see him in his own film minus most of the X-Team, I think $85 mil is pretty darn good. And I think it's kind of unfair to compare movies like Spidey and Iron Man to X-Men considering they have taken a great deal more money in their Box Office runs, especially Spider-Man which has made like double what the X-Franchise has brought in.

Thank you. Especially considering this movie is coming off of the heels of X1, X2 and X3!

The movie is sub-standard in all regards. Even the special effects are mediocre at best. Most critics are ripping this movie to shreds and justifiably so in this instance.

I am not a big fan of Wolverine, but I am a huge fan of the X-Men franchise. I want all products of the franchise to perform well, but based on merit. This property had so much potential. Considering how insanely popular Wolverine is, 85 million for the entire domestic weekend pull is not much to brag about.

For some dumb reason I was thinking of Halo 3...that made nearly 80 million on its release date. SM3 was the biggest movie opening ever and Halo 3 was then the biggest digital media opening ever so I guess I mixed those up for some dumb reason...but I got opening weekends right:up:

The first three X-Men films were not about the Team, they were about Wolverine and have the exact same formula as this movie. Wolverine is the star and everyone else is a side character. Wolverine is the face of the X-Men movies. He is the star character of Fox's entire franchise and he is the poster boy.

It is fair to compare all of these films because they are all comic book movies. The Spider-Man franchise has brought in more money in 3 films than the X-Men have in 4 films because the quality of the Spidey films are better. I am glad to see that these movie are on a decline at the box office and I now believe that people are wising up. The next X-Men movie will do worse than this did and if it is another bad movie, which it probably will be, then that is just another nail in the coffin and I will be happy to throw the dirt over Fox.

Iron Man made more money opening weekend with ZERO movies behind it. For it to beat Wolverine tells you something.

Uh... yeah they are! Come on... Indiana Jones is a classic franchise beloved by generations so of course after 20 years the new film would open like it did. Iron Man and Transformers did NOT open over 100 M. Shrek is an anomaly. How many animated films open as huge as the last two have? None. Not even close. These films aren't the norm and studios are lucky if they ever get franchises like these. Please... you guys talk like this happens all the time. Newsflash: It doesn't.

Pixar's 70 million annually counts for naught I guess... you seriously need to take a look at that chart again and see how many films make upwards of 70 million. I Am Legend almost made 80 million... that's all you need to know. For a franchise like X-Men... to not even outgross X-2 back in 2003??? That's sad. And I can't wait for this piece of **** to drop 70% next weekend.

For it not to beat X2 was a huge blow:o Shows that for some reason, not as many people want to see this movie.

I don't see the point in arguing this any more, considering the film has been considered a hit and Fox is movie forward with the sequel and the Deadpool spin off.

How many times have these studios talked about spinoffs/sequels the week after? I mean Hurd talked about how TIH2 was a lock... still no Hulk sequels to be found and we don't even know if Norton will return in Avengers. All these studios get carried away with the big weekend and try to make a splash in the news the next few days. Whether it's a FF/DD reboots... Superman Returns sequels. Until they move into production, these films... as of now, are not happening.

Where is it considered a hit? LOL Are you referring to media propaganda or the posters who would like for us to believe this is a hit?

A movie that is practically the fourth installment of a popular franchise making 85 million in its opening weekend is considered a hit now? How much did the fourth Harry Potter installment make its opening weekend?
