How much do you think it will make OW? *holds voice recorder 3 centimeters from your mouth & nose*
LOL, hell if I know. I think it'll be around Wolverine's number, actually. Hard to say when I don't really hang out with casual moviegoers. I think it'll have better legs than Wolverine, though. The X-men movies never had particularly stellar legs. X1 had the best legs and it couldn't even achieve a 3.0 multiplier.

Where is it considered a hit? LOL Are you referring to media propaganda or the posters who would like for us to believe this is a hit?

A movie that is practically the fourth installment of a popular franchise making 85 million in its opening weekend is considered a hit now? How much did the fourth Harry Potter installment make its opening weekend?
This isn't X4. This is Wolverine.

I'm glad that for once, justice is been done.

Fox will learn a lesson this time, the boxoffice is proving it.

This movie was supossed to work better than X2, and I'd say like X3 too, why not? Hugh is a BIG star worldwide.

Robert Downey Jr wasn't as well known as Hugh and Ironman was a bomb, why?....

ask it yourself, Fox.

This isn't X4. This is Wolverine.

It's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It's obviously meant to be an installment of the X-Men franchise. Or at least a halfway point between an installment in the X-Men franchise and a Wolverine film.

This isn't X4. This is Wolverine.

That's why I used the qualifier "practically" the fourth installment in the franchise. I mean, obviously Fox wanted to bank off of the X-men franchise. Why else would they have added X-men in the title of the movie?

No matter how you spin it, this movie is not a hit. Well, I guess in a way you could consider it a hit. I mean, a movie of such poor quality making 85 million could be considered a hit in some circles.

I might also add that I am grossly disappointed that The Incredible Hulk, which is a great movie underperformed at the box office compared to this POS movie.

Not really. . .

Doubt it.

What the hell are you basing this statement on?

I was meaning that Ironman was a big hit worldwide with Robert, an actor not As Known as Hugh Jackman, who besides had 3 previous films as Wolverine....

so if Wolverine isn't working as good as X2..... sorry guys, but it is for something.....

I think Downey Jr. was a much, much more well known actor than Hugh at the time. With the turnaround in his career being in taken into account too. Hugh was just a much more familiar superhero face in households. We're still barely a week into the film's release, it's hard to keep going on on whether this movie a hit or bomb yet.

I believe JP is questioning your statement that Robert Downey Jr. isn't as well known as Hugh Jackman. I can't speak for the movie going audience in the rest of the world, but, in the United States, I think it's highly debatable that Robert Downey Jr. isn't well known, even compared to the likes of Hugh Jackman. Perhaps that is where the difference of opinion stems. I certainly can't say that, prior to the past year or so, Downey has received the kind of immediate recognition Jackman received as Wolverine in X-Men, but I've known who Downey Jr. is as long as I can remember.

As far as appeal/interest to the general audience, I am pretty sure Jackman is a bigger pull than RDJ; however, Iron Man is a great movie. RDJ along with the story is captivating and entertaining.

Wolverine not so much. I feel pretty confident saying that Wolverine will not reach Iron Man's global box office numbers. It does not deserve to. Hell, it does not deserve what it has accumulated thus far. Fox and Jackman (he produced this trash, correct?) both need to wake up and make some attempt to make great comicbook movies.

I'm from Spain, and I'd say the mayority of the citizens know Hugh but not Robert.

I mean general audience, not cinema lovers.

Hugh Jackman isn't just one more actor, he is "The prettiest man of the world" by... People?.... here in Spain almost all the magazines write that quote.

Robert has many good roles in his back and good films, and yes, many people has seen one or two of his movies...

but Hugh is most known, so.....

'X-men origins: Wolverine' was done to break the boxoffice, but it hasn't done it......

I agree.

The movie is only in its first week of release. I think it's too soon to say whether the movie is a blockbuster or disappointment. Personally, I think the movie will struggle to reach $200 million, but I don't think anyone can say anything definitively yet.

with broke the boxoffice I mean reach X3 numbers or more.... something like Ironman...

but with these 4 first days, we already know it won't do it.

I agree with this. I am pretty sure Wolverine probably costs less than X3's development, but I am sure Fox was banking on grossing just as much revenue as X3.

Maybe Fox will perpetually make movies that underperform at the box office because of poor quality until they are forced to sell the X-Men rights.

Fox has had much confidence in Hugh Jackman as the star of the movies.... but at the same time, they are an insecure studio, I've had this impression various times in the latest year, with some decisions around XO:Wolverine.

Regardless of all that, Wolverine 2 is still going to make a *****load of money at the box office when it comes out thats for sure.

yes, probably around Dark Knight numbers.

:)

Maybe more with increasing ticket prices.

without increase, without increase, hehe.

Right, just like the current Wolverine film is doing. :whatever:

Surely, Fox is ecstatic that the X-men franchise's most popular mainstream character pulled in 85 million domestic over the entire weekend.../end sarcasm

Unless the quality of the sequel is significantly superior to the first Wolverine origins film, I hope you are wrong.

I am pretty sure I will not be going to see the sequel until observing the word of mouth from select posters on this site. And I can pretty much tell which posters are credible and which are not based on feedback form this film.

This weekend will tell the tale for Wolverine as to whether it's a modest success or a definite disappointment. But's it's not a bomb and is unlikely to ever be. If it can stay above 30M this weekend, then it's ok, otherwise it's a disappointment. I hope it gets a 20M 2nd weekend, myself. But I realize that's very low and 25M is much more likely.

That is absolutely unnecessary. If you disagree with other posters, agree to disagree and walk away. Quit with the snide comments.

All I know is that I'm making it a point to pay to see it again this Friday and maybe Saturday. I liked it so, I'm going to support it for all I'm worth. I have friends who haven't seen it and I will be getting their butts in the seats this weekend whatever it takes.
