The movie is only in its first week of release. I think it's too soon to say whether the movie is a blockbuster or disappointment. Personally, I think the movie will struggle to reach $200 million, but I don't think anyone can say anything definitively yet.

Are you talking just in the United States or worldwide? I believe the worldwide boxoffice over the weekend was around $170 million.

yes, probably around Dark Knight numbers.

:)
:funny:

It'd have to go over better with the critics. A 90% or higher RT score assures you at least a 3.0 multiplier. (The second Pirates movie managed to achieve a 3.12 multiplier despite having a crap RT score, but...yeah.)

Not even X1 did TDK's multiplier, which was a respectable 3.37, and that was after a record-breaking opening. :oldrazz:

I'm not saying that Wolverine (or any of the X-men movies) are failures, we just have to put things in perspective.

Thursday 7: $3,471,337

Daily chart showdown:

X3: $5,375,353
X2: $4,602,146
X1: $4,337,316
XO:W: $3,471,337

How many times have these studios talked about spinoffs/sequels the week after? I mean Hurd talked about how TIH2 was a lock... still no Hulk sequels to be found and we don't even know if Norton will return in Avengers. All these studios get carried away with the big weekend and try to make a splash in the news the next few days. Whether it's a FF/DD reboots... Superman Returns sequels. Until they move into production, these films... as of now, are not happening.
you dont need to explain it to him. he already knows how this works

right JP

HA! The film has already hit 200M worldwide. Its just a matter of time before fox announces that Wolverine 2 and 3 be filmed back to back. :funny:

Can't wait to see the numbers for this weekend.

James Marsters looks like an older Shia Labeuf in that vid... it's scary....

All I know is that I'm making it a point to pay to see it again this Friday and maybe Saturday. I liked it so, I'm going to support it for all I'm worth. I have friends who haven't seen it and I will be getting their butts in the seats this weekend whatever it takes.

Saw it again today and I plan on paying to see it again on Saturday. It's important to support second weekend! Stick it to the haters and support a quality effort!

Saw a double feature with friends. Star Trek and then Wolverine. We all enjoyed Wolverine more but we did like both.

I predict less than 20million.
:shock
I know that you guys desperately want this movie to fail and all, but there's no way in hell that it is gonna make less than 20 million this weekend.

After seeing Star Trek...I really hope for a down weekend. More people should see Star Trek. It was amazing

Early estimates for Friday are $8.2m (Nikki Finke) and $9.15m (/Film) so it's going to come in well above $20m for the weekend.

X1 made $23,468,649, and Wolverine is having a lower daily boxoffice, so it will made around 20mill-25mill.

The movies are pretty similar in their strengths and flaws. Both prequels have links and ties to other films (which were all fun to spot) and both took short cuts to get to the main plot. The action in Wolverine is better but the Kirk character track is much deeper in Star Trek. Kirk gets his butt kicked a lot in the film and isn't the dynamic presence you would expect. I know feet of clay heroes are endearing but I never considered Kirk to lean on the wimpy side. Also, I expected more from the villain's role in Star Trek.
A guy that happened to be thrown back in time with a mining machine was a little too easy to defeat.
He sure did a lot of damage but never registers in a big way as a character. Little things nagged at me in Star Trek while I let Wolverine be the "meat and potatoes" movie it was meant to be. Still, I liked them both, give them both thumbs up and got my money's worth and then some from both.

(I noticed a few plotholes and leaps in logic in Star Trek, MORE then Wolverine, but I don't think anyone is going to start a thread nitpicking Star Trek. Paramount gets a pass from fans but Fox needs to get drilled I guess.)
