The Dark Knight so, when Jim Gordon "died"...

i just gasped..

then he came back and i was like hellll yeahh!!!!! four people told me to shut up

Now that I think about it, I was more surprised they "killed" Gordon then I was when Rachael died.

Rachel dying didn't surprise me, not saying I expected her to die, I guess I just didn't really care haha
Gordon "dying" though, surprised me because I couldn't believe they would kill him....once they were reporting to his family though I was like.... "??????" I still didn't believe it, and I was going to be pretty angry if he didn't come back somehow.

There wasn't an reaction because everyone was glued to the screen. Well, I didn't see any atleast.

I remember thinking, "wait, he didn't even make Commissioner yet. He can't be dead." My fiance, who doesn't know a thing about Batman outside of the movies, was cheering when he was revealed to be the driver.

I was impressed and appalled at the same time. Initially, I thought it was a slick move. I bailed from the Hype a few months before it came out so I wouldn't be spoiled, and at first I was like "Wow, they must've shot all that stuff in the trailers to throw us off." There were already a bunch of scenes that had different takes from what we saw in the trailers, so I thought it was ingenious. I mean, killing Gordon is almost like killing Batman himself. Then I thought about it....

And the more I thought about it, the more I started to get pissed off, to the point where it actually messed up my viewing the first time because I couldn't get my mind off of it. For a hoax, it was played out pretty long, and about 15 minutes after it happened I started to think Nolan really did it. I couldn't believe it! I was prepared to come on here the first thing back home and start spewing all sorts of nonsense. Once he showed back up, needless to say, I was relieved :woot:

At 1st I just thought no maybe hes in the ICU or something to substitute the idea of Gordon being dead. When they showed the cops telling Gordons wife that kinda hit me hard thinking that this could be legit. Then it reall sunk it hard when Dent an Batman were in the ally talking and Dent said "The Joker killed Gordon". Hearing that just made it so official for me. the thing is Ive seen the trailers hundreds of times and the truth is that I was so into the movie that I didnt think of anything from them. Every line I heard from the trailer felt like I heard it for the 1st time when I saw it in the movie. Once Gordon was revealed to be the driver though I was not only shocked but almost went through a roller coster of emotions an thoughts. Its not very often where a movie makes me think this deep about it moreso when its a comic book movie

Seriously, how could anyone think he was really killed?

I do commend Nolan using that tactic as a means fo Gordon further proving himself so he had a more viable reason for taking over as Commissioner than JUST because Loeb was killed.

I thought that same thing with Cyclops and Venom but now a days I gotta wait and see cause sometimes something that SHOULD be common sense isn't what happens. Either way it was a great job on Nolan's behalf for doing it as good as it was done

Agreed. It's even stated in the trailers. "Hello, Commissioner!"

Very true, but I wouldn't have put it past Nolan to shoot certain things just for the trailer. I've never seen a movie that used so many different takes from what was actually in the trailer before, so technically, if he really wanted to make it a huge surprise, he could've had Oldman come in to do just that part of the interrogation scene, it wasn't alot, as far as what they showed in the trailer. That whole scene could've been just between Batman & the Joker really, all Nolan movies have twists. I think anyone could've expected Rachel to die, to do it with Gordon was actually much more of a surprise, and I initially bought it, especially like others pointed out, when they tell his wife the bad news

First time I saw the movie I was a little confused, though still expecting to see how the story will unravel. I mean, there were more Gordon scenes from the previews that haven't shown yet, hahaaa...

Come to think of it, I was thinking people would go "Awwww" when they saw Joker "dead" in the body bag. :P

Well I think the "awws" were for heath Ledger not the Joker

The he said commissioner in the trailer argument is rather weak--we never saw who him says that to (agh, it sounds terrible--if its well written?)

Even though I knew there were scenes in the trailers with him in them the way Nolan portrayed Gordons death was so matter of fact and kinda cruel (Gordons wife screaming and kids crying) part of me couldnt help but fall for it. My theater exploded in applause when he came back. When I took my sister to see TDK a few weeks later she thought he was actually dead and I could hear a loud GASP! even though I was on the other end of the row.

I was not surprised or awwed one bit it was an obvious set up to me when I was watching it & I highly doubt that they were going to kill Gordon before he became Commissioner & the trailers sure did help hide the shock of him "dying" as well looking at when it took place (sarcasm with this one). But for the most part he died way to soon to have the shock value

Well, I suppose most of the people in the theater when I went weren't active batfans because they apparently didn't realize that Nolan would probably be set on fire if he actually killed Gordon in the movie.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!! So true!! Yep, TDK got a few crowd reactions, which is so suprising for Ireland 'cos peeps never do anything like that, BUT yep, we were all goin' 'yeah' and 'aw wow' at bits.... the two biggest reactions we Gordon's death (gasps and 'awwws' and his return generated 'yeahs!' and claps - I couldn't believe it....)

Now, I wasn't fooled about his death but I was SO suprised practially everyone else I chatted to after was.....even my die-hard 'Batman' cousins and friends thought he was gone - despite our watching the trailers daily!! I did, however, think he'd appear nearer the end - I had NO clue he was driving the SWAT truck w/ Dent in it.....class!!

Whenever I read MrsJimGordon's posts I hear it all said with an Irish accent.

Hee hee!! I'm from the west as well so 'tis a very strong accent! Top o' the mornin' to ya, mo chara!! (<--- gaelic for 'my friend')

Ireland is a very beautiful place...though very very green... kind of hard to get use to. Oh well welcome to the hype.

I'm still wondering what the official explanation for Gordon's death is. Like, was it just a body double or what?
