I am shocked Uncharted made that much money. I don't know anyone who has seen it!

Very true.

Though due to the fact that Paramount announced Sonic 3 & The Knuckles Spin Off like a month before Sonic 2 came out...shows that they are ready to put forth the money.

*slides Paramount a twenty* Now bring back Sally and Company....

That's actually not the one you have to bribe for that. It's SEGA. They hate the Freedom Fighters and DiC characters. That's the main reason they got Thanos snapped.

But if you look at overseas grosses, even Battleship did well overseas. It made over $303 million worldwide.

The reason overseas grosses are misleading is because studios don't get back the same they get from domestic grosses. Sometimes studios even sell off the overseas sales or rights before the movie even gets released.

I can kind of see why. Uncharted is a popular game series. Tom Holland is the star and coming right off of Spider-Man. Plus it had a good strategic weekend. Holiday weekend in February with not a lot of big new movies coming out when people are finally ready to get out of their houses again.

Uncharted is...well I wouldn't say it's awful. I find it to be mediocre, just kind of mid. But watching the movie I can see why people would go to it and have a good time or a night out.

Fun Fact (for those not in the know); Wildbrain (who owns all the DiC Sonic properties when DiC folded) is working with SEGA for Netflix's Sonic Prime. So maybe the return of the SATAMverse (most likely not going to happen though) XD

I really don't get SoJ's apathy for the SoA 90s characters. They own the rights (and for Godzilla's sake they had a Sally Statue at SEGA World Sydney); so there's no issue with Kenny P.

Plus I would think with the success of Sonic 2, Paramount has enough clout with SEGA to be "relax...we got this." Because as a LIFE long Sonic fan, I feel IMO the movies have finally given the Franchise the adrenaline its been needing.

The Sonic games (outside Generations & Mania which were basically greatest hits albums) has been mid to low for a decade plus. I have hope for Frontiers but im super skeptical.

I mean they allowed Knuckles to have a Dad for 30 seconds in a flashback. And SEGA has been pretty much anti parents (save for Vanilla) since the Penders/Archie Fiasco. Only reason Uncle Chuck survived (I miss him too)

My working theory is because other than Sonic, Tails, and Robotnik, SEGA and Sonic Team didn't really have a hand in creating any of those characters. They were created by the American staff and animators.

Though my understanding is that planet Mobius was first mentioned as Sonic's planet in the Sonic the Hedgehog US bible for the games.

Its a common theory.

And your right about "Mobius" coming from the SoA Sonic Bible.

ANother fun fact....in an early draft of Sonic 2 and in the novelization Knuckles calls Sonic "Son of Mobius"

SEGA's recent Tails Tube videos have been dropping some Lore Bombs about Sonic's world recently, so "Mobius" may be coming back. Example of this is that (as of right now) the two worlds policy has been debunked. Both the Animal people and humans live on the same planet. The animals live on islands (ie South Island, Westside etc) where the humans live on the continents.

I've always been fond of the Mobius name for the world so I hope it becomes part of modern canon.

There's actually really cool stuff and lore material in those documents and corporate booklets.

Like I think I think saw this early character profile for Knuckles in Sonic 3 that mentioned his love for grapes. I like that they thought of all these things way back when.

They do like to mine those old game booklets for the deep lore

I think anyone who hasn't played the Uncharted games would enjoy the movie more. Holland is popular and Fleischer knows how to direct an action sequence that's for sure.

Heck I enjoyed the movie myself. But it isn't a patch on the games and the 2 main characters are still really mis-cast.

The action was actually one of my least favorite aspects as I thought it was badly shot and edited.

I'd be content with $185 million domestic

I think Japan is all that's left. But yeah the classic Domestic Market vs International Market debate comes back.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Box Office Mojo

$181 million now. It's passing $185 million easily because next weekend is a holiday weekend.

$190 million could be the ceiling now if not higher.

how much time left is it going to be in theaters? I think it hits paramount+ this week

That's not confirmed. People are speculating it's going to Paramount Plus this week because of six week window.

There's a small animated short coming with the movie

I suppose it's not surprising, but it kind of sucks that they are going to sit on the BDs for this movie until early August. I'll definitely wait for it, but geeze.

Short of a shockingly good performance in Japan, it probably won't cross 400 million worldwide. But still a fantastic result. And I'm glad that it's deserved. A fun movie that really helped give Sonic some life. The games have had their issues, but it is nice seeing the movies doing so much right.

As for Chip and Dale...I salute their courage for bringing that thing into the universe.

Making it a gag in the Rescue Rangers certainly doesn't redeem it in my eyes.

I was thinking exactly the same thing :funny:

Really disappointing that the Blu-ray is coming out so late. Its normally only like a month from being able to buy a movie digital compared to Blu-ray yet this movie is like 2 and a half months. I have never seen such a big gap from digital to Blu-ray.

I think it's fine. Maybe they are hoping to still get a little more gas out of the theatrical relief even though it's on streaming now.

I think shortening the theatrical window was a mistake.
