Definitely doing well. Has already caught up with the total domestic box office of it's original run. Pretty sure it's passed by Uncharted in terms of domestic box office (thank goodness) and will take the domestic video game crown pretty fast.Well it doesn’t look like the movie is slowing down a huge amount at the BO. It’s already overtaken FB which came out a week later and beat off some other new movies this weekend. It’s doing great.
Hmmm wonder if the studio's happy with that result. It seems...good not great. Movie deserves a lot more money. Surprised more kids arent flocking to this.

It is doing great for sure. Still some time left before Doctor Strange takes the box office over. Holding second place for 2 weekends in a row was nice. It's already a success, but the next few weeks will just further cement that. Which is good since it's a really fun movie.
Should be a reminder that they did a lot of things right. And that just means that Sonic 3 should be an absolute blast.
Glad you all enjoyed. Finally got around to taking my kids to see this. Sonic is still the king of video game cinema.

Something interesting to consider:
Uncharted has made $395,042,079 WW ($146,442,079 Dom ; $248,600,000 Intl)
Sonic 2 is currently at $248,600,000 WW ($161,114,672 Dom; $162,600,000 Intl)
Uncharted has $72 mill lead on Sonic 2. With Sonic 2 coming to Paramount on May 24; i'm curious to see how Sonic 2 is by the end of the month. Also S2 doesn't come out in Japan to Aug, and I wonder just how much can it make at the Japanese BO given their not so hot on Sonic as the US is.
I'm kind of impressed how close Sonic is looking to get. Especially since it won't get any Chinese box office money. That is one of the bigger differences between it and the other top video game movies globally. Less so with Uncharted since it only got around 17 million there. But that's the reason Warcraft sits as King.Something interesting to consider:

350M is a rock solid number. If it can scratch 400M somehow that’d be awesome.
Seems like it might get close, as there's still gas in the film's domestic box office. Looks like it might surpass $180 million stateside.
Doesn’t it still need to open in Japan as well?
As of Monday its sitting at $176 million but its starting to really get into the tail end of the Domestic BO. Only made about 200k on Monday.
If it has one more solid weekend I could see it hitting $180
It opens in Japan in August...but I wouldn't expect much out of the JPNBO.
When all its said and done...I imagine the WWBO to be somewhere between $365-$375; which sadly would put it below Uncharted and FB:SoD at the WWBO. Which is kinda of a bummer, but impressive for both other movies due to their strong International market draw. Because Sonic beat Uncharted by a fair amount and whipped FB pretty hard.
Still ranking in the top 5 and made $4.6 million last weekend. It's definitely making over $180 million, EASY. It will be over that by this weekend. $185 million-ish is probably the ceiling at this point.
What other major territories has it not been released in besides Japan?
It will still be below Uncharted and Detective Pikachu worldwide, but still much higher than both domestically.
Domestic market still seems to be the deciding factor when it comes to sequels. Look at Warcraft.
