Yea that's right. Completely forgot about that

Lea Michele will appear in the coming season of Sons of Anarchys sixth episode, which will air Oct 14.
EW has confirmed that Michele will play Gertie, an empathetic truck-stop waitress and single mother, who connects with Gemma (Katey Sagal) during a difficult time.

No one is making it out of this show alive. MAYBE Bobby.....but that's about it. And yes, that includes Tig. Sorry about all you folks fantasizing about a happy ending for him and Venus. Those 2 will be found dead, riddled with bullets and in each others arms in some sleazy hotel room.

Ugh, are they going to try to have Gemma be a "complex" character with whom we sympathize in this last season?
Gemma was sympathetic in season 2. She put a gun to a baby's head in season 3. She certainly didn't deserve to be assaulted by Clay in season 4. We learned about her role in the death of Jax's father as well. All things considered she was a "complex" or multi-layered character in the first 4 seasons.
But since seasons 5 and 6, her credibility and my level of interest in her character have consistently decreased. Her selfishness and need to control everything her son and the club does has been one of the major drawbacks to the show in the last 2 seasons. I'm not saying we don't feel sorry for her in moments like the conjugal visit with Clay last season, but overall there's been more bad than good from Gemma the past couple seasons.
There's absolutely nothing left for her to do in season 7, and I really hope that half of the season isn't wasted on Sutter trying to have people feel sorry for or relate to her in any capacity. This is coming from someone who really did value her role in the show even through the last season, but within the show itself her character should absolutely not be hanging around the club, taking care of Jax's kids, relating to single mothers at truck stops, etc. Gemma is way beyond that point. I can't imagine audiences wanting to sympathize with her in any way after what she did.
No they are trying to make Gemma act like a human being.
Im sure Gemma is experiencing a mixture of terror and grief. She demonstrated that in the season finale when she was told that Tara didnt rat. She's gonna feel bad about killing the mother of her grandbabies for no reason. And shes terrified that Jax is coming after her.
We the audience dont have to feel sympathy for her, but Gemma as a character needs to show some typical human emotions.
We know she's horrified and even disgusted with herself. That was in the final scenes of season 6 with Unser. We can imagine she's terrified. We know the character well. Point is, we simply don't need much time dedicated to her 'being human'. Of course I'm speculating, but it sounds like Gemma will have major screentime. I'm not suggesting that we simply don't see her at all until Jax confronts her. I'm guessing that based off what I've read, Gemma's emotional state of being may be a major focus, more than people expect or desire.
For example, there were descriptions of Gemma [BLACKOUT]spending time with or taking care of the grandkids while Jax is in prison. Nobody expects her to have the willpower to cut herself off from the kids whose mother she murdered. [/BLACKOUT] I don't think that will sit well with audiences. Whether it's intended to or not is another matter.
I didn't say Gemma's emotional state shouldn't be a part of the final season or that she would be expected to not see the kids (even clarified the opposite on both counts). This show is about family and it's obvious that Jax's revenge will land at her feet - that isn't being questioned.
I'll restate this way - we don't need to see as much Gemma. Her arc is all but finished, and the only thing people are going to want to see regarding Gemma is Jax deal with her. That doesn't mean Gemma should be all but absent. I mean that attempts to show Gemma "being human" could still fall flat given that she committed a horrible and irredeemable act. Gemma is just a villain at this point.

I expect Gemma to have as much screen time as she always has had. No getting around that.
