Sons of Anarchy - Part 3

I'm starting to think my prequel series about Gemma and some of the other guy's mothers will never see the light of day.

Moms of Anarchy would have rocked too.

Sons of Anarchy iconic characters may return for Mayans spin-off

Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter has dropped an intriguing detail about his planned Mayans spinoff.

Sutter was chatting with Deadline while promoting his upcoming FX series The Bastard Executioner when he was asked about the new project, which EW first reported last month.

All that’s been confirmed by FX so far is that Sutter is developing a spin-off to his hit biker gang series that chronicles the Mayans motorcycle club. But Sutter now adds the Mayans project will be a contemporary story — not a prequel — and could include some characters from the original series (among the few that are still alive, presumably).

“It’s the same [biker] subculture, but it’d be interesting to see the influences of [Hispanic] culture and how it impacts the subculture we already understand,” Sutter said. “I would do a contemporary piece, not a prequel, and place it far enough away from Northern California that it wouldn’t step on the mythology that’s already been told. It doesn’t mean that there couldn’t be some cool, ironic crossovers with familiar characters as the series progressed. I wouldn’t want to set it too close to the world we already know, and step on that … My intent is, over the hiatus I’ll initiate a script for the pilot and take it from there.”

The long-rumored SoA prequel is still possible too, Sutter added. That story is envisioned as a limited series that would follow Jax’ father John Teller and a young Piney (played by William Lucking in SoA) as they meet during the Vietnam War, return home and then establish SAMCRO.

Two spin off series? I'll take them both.

I'd prefer the prequel series but if the Mayans takes place in current continuity with potential cameos from Chibs and the rest of the surviving Sons, I'd be down with that too.

Probably just be Chucky.

Though I'd be happy to see more Happy!

The ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Spinoff Is Officially Happening

The world of Sons of Anarchy will ride again.

FX announced that the pilot for Mayans MC — Kurt Sutter’s Sons spinoff about SAMCRO’S sometimes friendly, sometimes rival gang, the Mayans Motorcycle Club — is officially revving up, which is exciting news for fans of bad motor vehicle wordplay. The series will take place “in a post-Jax Teller world, where EZ Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexi border, struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel, and his need for respect from the women he loves.” Sutter co-wrote the pilot with his producing partner Elgin James, who founded the anti-racist street gang FSU (which originally stood for ***** ***** Up; it became Friends Stand United).

Hopefully its better than Bastard Executioner.

Being set in the world of SOA, I can't imagine it won't be. I think The Bastard Executioner was just too soon and too far out of his wheelhouse.

Hopefully its better than Bastard Executioner.

I think the failure of Bastard Executioner is probably a big part of the reason we're seeing the SOA spin-off this soon. Success is far more likely with an already successful property, and Sutter will be much better off sticking to what he's good at.

Wonder how much of SAMCRO we will be seeing.

Elgin James, who founded the anti-racist street gang FSU (which originally stood for ***** ***** Up).

That's a straightforward, awesome gang name.

Maggie Siff should have got an emmy for playing tara imo

Loved SOA, been waiting for this to start production.

Well we all know that Scott Glenn is an amazing actor but I'm glad Perlman got the role. I'm still really looking forward to this show and being back in the SOA world post Jax Teller.

I love Scott Glenn on The Leftovers, but I can't imagine that his Clay wouldn't have ended up being an entirely different character than Perlman's.

I had lost interest in this show so I hadn't seen most of the final season. Recently decided to see what's up with the spin-off but didn't want to get any possible spoilers so I just spent the last week or so rewatching/watching the rest of season 7. Decent enough season all around, but the finale wasn't good...the heavy handed Jesus metaphor was eye roll inducing.

Ah well. Now to check out this Mayans show...
