Goddard wants to talk Spidey at his Daredevil office with Amy

Re:
Whoops sorry — just saw this. It’s much more about "What’s the movie?" than “When?" at this point. As soon as we get a handle on 3, my hope is it will give us a little guidance on what SS wants to be. And the good news about my commitments is, to some extent, I have the freedom to do what I want. So once we have a good bead on what the movie is, we can lock in a timetable pretty easily.

I’m really feeling that for a SS movie to work without Spidey in it, we need a movie star in the lead role. (I’m not sure I could convince him to do it, but someone like Matt Damon as Dock Ock?)

I'm fairly certain that if Sony wanted to use Kingpin in a Spider-Man live action movie they could.

Me too. That just means that Sony gave up fighting for the character, meaning they allowed Marvel to do what they wanted.

138 Guests?

$ony we love Spider-Man. He belongs with his Marvel friends. Daredevil would be a great team up and Kingpin a great villain.

Goddard is full of it.

Keep that man away from any MCU projects

Goddard's script for Daredevil 1 and 2 was not only good, it was ****ing brilliant. Can he transfer that level of sophistication and intensity over to Spider-Man?

I'm glad. I thought Tombstone worked better than the Kingpin would have in SSM.

Wilson Fisk

Hey. I'm ot next week. We can talk more but might be very tough w legendary. Lots of ex sony people and a competitor

Sent on the run

Steve,

Good evening sir.

Would you be interested in having breakfast next Friday November 14th at Kreation 7:00AM?

We wanted to pitch a scenario to you for the ‘Wilson Fisk’ (Spider-Man universe) scripted television project. We would like to talk to you about possibly taking a meeting with us over at Legendary Entertainment’s offices about ‘Wilson Fisk’ project and a possible joint production between Sony Pictures Television and Legendary, with us taking on writing duties. We actually met with Legendary about this project, but as we mentioned to you before Sony controls the character rights in television and film as we explained to our people over at Legendary. So in short we want and would need your (SPTV) participation. So we wanted to talk to you about it first to gauge your level of interest before we reach back out to our people at Legendary to schedule this proposed meeting. What do you think?? Great way to end 2014; ‘Sony Pictures Television and Legendary Entertainment to co-produced a new Marvel/ Spider-Man universe scripted series entitled ‘Wilson Fisk’; based on one of Marvel Universe’s most iconic villains and Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman.

Actually, where we left our Legendary meeting was that one of our guys was planning to reach out to you to see if there was any joint production interest before they had additional meetings with us on this particular project. But Legendary seems genuinely interested. We also have another potential opportunity but we have held off on scheduling that meeting until we saw what if anything would/ could be generated on this project between Legendary and Sony. Let us know what you think.

Our ‘Wilson Fisk’ project wherever we potentially take it would need your participation because Sony holds television and film character rights for Spider-Man and his rogue gallery. We’re confident we can sell/ place this show with your participation. If not Legendary (meaning by some off chance SPTV and Legendary can’t come to agreeable terms) then somewhere else and this is an additional idea we’d like to discuss with you. We’re also well aware of the high expectations Sony places on all things Spider-Man related and we know this project will deliver in full and be an amazing television property for expanding Sony’s Spider-Man universe onto television in 2015. So there you have it.

Plus we haven’t all had a meal together in a minute, so I think we’re about due. Obviously if next Friday November 14th doesn’t work for your schedule just email us both a different date that works best for you. Sooner or later is fine with us as we know your schedule is extremely busy and hectic.

Have a great evening. We look forward to hearing back from you. Don’t forget to vote tomorrow.

QUESTIONS FOR TOMORROW
A FEW QUESTIONS FROM YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD AMY. SOME OF THIS WE CAN TALK ABOUT TOMORROW, SOME OF IT WE CAN TALK ABOUT THURSDAY, BUT I JUST WANTED YOU TO HAVE THE QUESTIONS IN ADVANCE BECAUSE YOU KNOW ME AND YOU KNOW I'M GONNA HAVE QUESTIONS EVERY DAY.

International Footage
1. I think the footage is the wow footage we need, but do we need to take one last opportunity to “Red Team” it? We can screen it in Cary Grant this afternoon and show it to fresh eyes (obviously trusted people who work here, but maybe who aren’t as close to it as we are).

2. On Feb 2 we’re showing the footage to domestic and international exhibitors for AMC. What date are we showing to Odeon? Are we showing to Odeon domestic and international?

3. After we show it to AMC & Odeon, where else does the footage go? Does it go to all of our international managers? How are we sharing the footage with them (online, DCP, etc.)? When are we showing it to them?

4. When do we show it to our Promo Partners – which partners? What venue does this take place in?
5. Nigel: how many clips should we be distributing of BTS/special features to international managers? We got the complaint about too many on the last movie so we don’t want to send too many this time.

6. This footage is not approved for press. Disney did not show Cap footage to press.

USPS
1. Saw the ripomatic of the commercial – it’s fine, and I’m comfortable with the director (Rich Lee) because he did all of those Spider-Man commercials on the first movie with Carl’s Jr. We need to clarify that he’s delivering the movie to a bunch of excited kids’ who are at the premiere not a bunch of red carpet Hollywood types – please confirm this?

2. On the USPS website it says that there are 212,530 vehicles in the USPS fleet – 5,000 trucks isn’t enough. This is a fantastic promotion but it feels like we need better penetration to really make it all that it can be? How can we get more?

3. Where are we on parlaying the USPS relationship with amazon to seeing Spider-Man on Amazon (loved Dwight’s suggestion of seeing Spidey on your Amazon email confirmation).

4. When do the USPS promotions start and how long do they last?

Publicity
1. What do we do to make people all over the world love Andrew Garfield? He was so great at Comic-Con – how do we capture that and share it with the world?

2. OSCARS: Has anyone followed up with Craig since I spoke with him to figure out how Spider-man can be part of the Super-hero part of the show? We need to get them a list of all of our actors in the movie, including Sally, Paul, Jamie, Chris Cooper, etc. because they have all won Oscars and that might make them want to have the whole group as presenters. And Andrew and Emma too.

3. Are we buying a spot on the Oscars?
4. What is Jamie doing for the Oscars and the Superbowl?
5. What are all of the things that Andrew and Emma said that they would do that they are now saying they won’t do? Remember, Emma has to make up for Vogue and Kid’s Choice.

6. I know Dwight reached out to Andrew about doing JESSIE, but the only other celebrity who has done Jessie is Adam Sandler. What other celebrities have done TV shows like this that we can persuade him with? Maybe Emma could do it instead? The show is huge with girls.

7. Need to work on Andrew’s messaging/attitude. We’re setting up a meeting with him next week – can we spend some of that meeting talking to him about this? Also, we should set up one of these meetings with Emma and her team.

8. Someone needs to call Emma and relay the messaging that David sent. When is her next press appearance/interview? Need to talk to her before then.

9. What do we know about Toy Fair – should we get Andrew to go?

X-Men Tag
1. What is the solution to the situation that we have with the tag about making sure it doesn’t feel Spider-Man is in X-Men, but also doesn’t get us into trouble with the exhibitors?

Creative Materials
1. For domestic, what do our standees, one-sheets, and outdoor look like? When do they need to be locked? Does the one-sheet still need to be locked on January 30th? When do they appear in theaters?

2. Are we retiring the blue sky one-sheet that came out after the banner came out?
3. Superbowl: we know Capt. America has a 30-second spot as the last ad in the pregame show after the national anthem (the national anthem will continue to play over their spot), and their ad will throw to their online trailer. We know that what we have is a great idea, but we need to be aware of our competition, because this sounds like a good plan. Will their online launch during the game interfere with ours?

4. Where are we with the UK standees (I know they needed them for midterm holiday on February 10th)? Is the artwork locked? Did I understand Peter’s notes right, that we’re using the banner art?

5. What is the second UK trailer – is it the Lego Trailer?
6. What is the latest on the Alicia Keys/Pharell song?
7. What is the 6-second clip that Ann-Elizabeth needs for the moments worth paying for?

Thursday
On Thursday, we should be prepared to talk about takeaways from the International Focus Groups.

DBNR

If only it was that simple. Avi Arad is just a tiny part of what is wrong with Sony trying to make sense of Spider-Man. Amy Pascal is clueless and Tom Rothman is trying to put his stinking hands at the project right now.

May God and Odin give Kevin Feige strength to protect Spider-Man.

Do I have this right

The original plan on spiderman was

Have offices and some selected press come to a press day on the lot in last November where we will show them the opening and Times Square

( which at the time we had only seen a few weeks before and was very much unfinished and while I sat there having a heart attack people made up their minds about the movie in addition to which we showed a very early not great version of the movie to all our managers who pretensed to like it but were disappointed )

But we supposedly got. Fantastic responses from press although when we put out a trailer a month later with sub par visual effects it was a problem and much commented on)

I then made a bug stink and said no more press or anyone Seeing stuff till it was I. A more finished state and cancelled the press tour which was to have taken place on feb with all the talent going to Europe to show the same footage still u finished I never did unstated even if we had something finished why we needed the

To come in November and then go in feb and what the targets were)

Then peter take complained and aid he needed something to get exhibitors excited because whatever enthusiasm
The preSS FELT FOR THE ****** NOVEMBER FOOTAGE CLEARLY DIDNT SPEAD TO RHE Varioua exhibitors
So we please show the. Something f that would make everyone excited preferably in 3d

I relented because the stuff was atarting to look great but it as still unfinished so it could only be for exhibitors and it most certainly was not in 3d

So now we mAse a 15 minutes show reel which aome territories uses do show exhibitors and promotional partners and some did not

Then the plan was to have a premiere in ny early April actually on the 7th before the European tour so that the world premiere was in ny and not Europe but everyone got cold feet about that because that meant doing a us premiere 5 weeks before the movie opened here and despite all Assurance it was also to do withy the fact that the marketing g department felt insure about the movie because that is of course what captin America is doing and what avengers did (cap is next week and then they go on their international tour and they don't open here until April 4 which I guess I three weeks and not five or six

Anyway according to the old plan after the feb footage tour now cancelled the movie and filmmakers were going on their Asian leg of the tour to Singapore Japan China for an earth hour celebration where we had been plan no f on showing the whole movie finished in all its glory march 20th

Is it actually possible that there was ever a world in which we thought we would be showing the finished movie for the first time in Singapore Japan and China when none of us were ever planning on being there it's for a ridiculous earth hour celebration and is the movie gonna be finished and dubbed and subtitled in these languages in two weeks from now ? Was that ever possible ? am I crazy was this doable?

Anyway no ducking way was I gonna have this shown in Singapore China and Japan 6 weeks before we open the us with susan. And Nigel presiding over it so now what do they decide

We will show footage and have long lead press junkets and prea conferences in Asia and Australia
With the two scenes people saw in November and the. For the exhibitor reel and now basically the same scenes will at least be finished and will be in 3d although we won't see then before next Friday so I how they are gonna look good

At the same time when we moved the world wide premiere to the uk for my we decided we pretty have a screening for bloggers of footage so they don't get mad at us

So when asked the international guys who have been so obsessed with footage screening a had ok clue what the footage is they wanted to show hasn't seen it cut together and told me Lori Furie was dealing with the content of it

But since We has decided the same footage would be used for the bloggers Dwight has actually had a plan and it was terrific although not yet in 3d

So now the plan is bloggers in la and ny and Asia will have 30 minute footage events starting on March 17? And at the same time ish the final trailer that is going with captin America internationally is gonna be dropped on line right before captin Erica a first internationAl opening

Sony should make their animated Spider-Man, regardless. Say what you will about Sony's ability to make live action but (IMHO) SSM is the best interpretation of Spider-Man outside of the comics.

I would give credit for TSSM directly to Weisman and Cook. If not for them and a few of the other creative forces, the show wouldn't have been what it was. Fortunately, one of the execs, Vogel I believe, gave them a bit of freedom to create the show however Weisman has stated in a podcast he and Cook did meet with some resistance. For example, the "You just hit the jackpot, Tiger" line was something they had to fight to get into the show. There was an unnamed exec that thought the line was "too conceited" and felt it should have been changed. Luckily, Weisman/Cook were there to point out how defining a moment that line is/was when MJ was first introduced in the comics and it eventually passed. Had they not been there to push for it, thanks to an exec at Sony, it would have been changed to god knows what.

Get greg Wiseman to make Spider-Man: The College Years

Straight to blu ray.

I would be all for this, of course. But, I can't see that happening given the current state of things. Disney would have to pay Sony to obtain the rights for TSSM or maybe get into a joint effort to bring back the show. But for the time being anyway, Disney is enjoying success with USM. It's 100% profit for them rather than being whatever % they would need to pay Sony for TSSM.

So Avi Arad was the villain of this story after all.

As if we needed the emails to confirm this :cwink:

While it ain't great, i grant you, its not awful, and it is totally fixable. But the guy writing the emails doesn't know what he is talking about:

1.The UK is actually the one to worry about the most imo. Crucial market and trails in all interest measures. BUT its also the most transparent media market, and most reactive to tv. Have to look at the timing of the campaign and the spend and promo spend timing and punch it up and move it forward. Have to be sure the early media and the creative is ALL EVENTY feeling.

2. Captain Am is now Avengers spin off. Has empowered/hot girl superhero in Scarlet and handsome guy. Your female numbers are weak everywhere, and partic bad in UK. Has it always been thus? Can't we use andrew as andrew to help with girls more? Does Emma do anyhting active and strong?

3.Germany, is not as bad as first appears when you look close, as the Capt Am interest is on much lower awareness base. I think your aware/def int numbers are prob supressed at least a little by false awareness-- they know the title, but not this movie.

4.That speaks to an urgent need for story specificity in the materials. What is the story here that is unique and compelling and differentiating.

5.spain is fine, largely becz the females hold up better. and its a **** market these days so don't spend any time on it. you are ok there.

6. Australia the numbers are all wierd there and cna't be right-- for either you or capt Am. the awareness is so bouncy betw quads. makes no sense. see what happens next wave. But in any case, whatever measures are taken in the uk, should be done in Aust too. I am guessing they are going to be in similar state.

7. mexico. its not the tracking, its the box office numbers, which are reflective of the tracking on both the last film and this one. Total b.s. Mexico should be a HOME RUN market for this film with its family friendly cross over component. Instead its HALF of iron man. Big upside for it in mexico, especially with the date. Get those ****ers on a plane and up here tomorrow. That'll wake em up.

SO HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS: YOU CAN USE THIS TO LIGHT A FIRE UNDER ALL ASSES INVOLVED. AND THERE IS STILL PLENTY OF TIME TO CRUSH THIS-- AS LONG AS ALL THE PROMO PARTNERSHIP WORK HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE PROPERLY-- WITH BREAKTHROUGH CREATIVE AND SMART, SEGMENTED MEDIA EXECUTION.

Ya sony was good but then dropped the ball last few yrs. And we can see that. But now that deal is set. Let's hope marvel taking the control on what to do with character and story. And leave the money side to sony to worry about.

As for spin off and s6 films now. They are more then likely off the table now. And in the developmental hell.

Wow. So they were actually thinking about or contemplating the idea of Gwen Carnage and the idea that it would be "sexy" for her to fight Peter or a girl fight between her and MJ. This is hilarious. I just....I can't even....

Question

I don't think so. There are many characters and places that appear in Spidey comics that aren't part of our character grant.

wouldn't we be able to use that, since we control all of the agent venom books??
