i dont want spoilers either but i...MuSt..HaVe...SPIDER-MAN4 NEWS!!!!!! ;)

What news do you guys want? Baker returns as Lizard??? They won't give villain news until late 2009 or 2010. Same with other newly introduced characters. Casting and story/villains is pretty much the only speculation right now. And it's obviously way too soon for any of that.

2011 would be a great release date, can't wait for more news.

I'm kind of disappointed that Sony is bringing Raimi and McGuire back. I was kind of looking forward to a fresh edgier take on Spidey. Something that could wash away the apparition of SM3 out of my mind.

I don't mind Raimi coming back, I would however want someone new as Spidey.

I think SM under Raimi and McGuire was a little niave and watered down. Which is fine considering 1 & 2 were kind of origin stories and McGuire was all right as a nerdy outcast. But they never got his quipping just right. IMO SM's joking is as much part of his fighting style as his strength or agility. Taunting and enraging villains thus taking them off their game. Toby hasn't demonstrated he can pull that off. Peter evolved in the comics and he should evolve in the films. I'm not saying he should go dark like TDK but grow the character beyond lovable loser.

In addition, a reboot might give fans a better Venom story. While you may love or hate him as a fan you have to appreciate how Venom impacted Peter/SM in the comics. Probably almost as much as Arch-Villain Gobby. He deserves his story told right. Raimi had his opportunity and blew it.

Blame the studio if you want, Raimi bears at least part of the responsibility. SM3 was horrible and while not a Raimi die-hard fan I think he is a competant director and should have done better. Why give him another opportunity to further damage SM's film adaptations. He should have never touched the Venom story this early and should have fought Sony to the point of walking away from the project if they tried to make him. How is to say he wont cowe to Sony again if they say "Peter should go public with his identity" or "Let's give him 4 extra arms."?

I'd also like more mature stories. I don't get why some people gasp at the thought and think kids would hate it,when kids are not there for character driven arcs in the first place. They want action. The X-Men movies proved you can combine the action with the story and make it interesting for the different age groups.

Oh yeah, Gobby killed Peter's gf, his baby, cloned him, and turned his best friend into a super villain.

Venom.....stalks Peter all the time, and sometimes even teams up with him. Never seriously hurt or killed anyone close to Peter. He's nothing but a glorified stalker. He's had minimum impact on Peter's life out of the big three Spidey villains.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but Raimi did all he really can with the character. Venom is one of those characters who really only works for cool fight scenes. As a character, at least the way he's been portrayed in the last 20 years, he's pretty ****ing lame. The lethal protector thing is not needed, and the stalker thing got old fast. I will say that the Anti Venom thing has potential though.

QFT

I knew MJ was pregnant once, but I never knew how she lost the baby. How was that?
And did he clone Peter? I thought it was Jackal.

Honestly, I don't see why Lizard is not the third main baddie. He's an ally to Peter but an enemy to Spider-Man. And from the looks of Ultimate and now even 616, that's what they're trying to establish Venom as.

Can't remember the exact details because it's been ages since I read it, as this was part of the clone saga, one of my least favourite eras, but I know she had a miscarriage.

But there is suspicions that the baby was abducted by Osborn. The plot was left in limbo, so we don't know if it's true.

And did he clone Peter? I thought it was Jackal.

It was. But he was working for Norman. He put him up to it. He orchestrated the whole thing while he was hiding out in Europe.

I had to edit. :( :cwink:

As much as I hate that storyline, it does cement Norman as the biggest bastard alive.

I never read the entire clone saga. Just bits of it.
Thanks for the heads up, though.

Well, we have SSM. A great filler for the absense of SM from film and the crap we see in the comics now.

SSM seems to be the best thing since SM2.

Actually, in the SM games, Maguire has quipped alot and he's quite funny and good at it.

Reboot is not a word to use. How many times do I have to say this? A reboot is for a film franchise when the film before is a finacial and critical failure, so they reboot it. This happened for BB. That HAD to happen. SM3 was the highest grossing film of 07 and the reviews were mixed. That's not gonna make them reboot it. Why reboots a nearly billion dollar franchise? Talk of rebooting (if you know what the word means or not) is just stupid fanboy anger wanting to cast everything away since SM3, which was a disapointment to them, and nobody else cares.

I blame the studio for putting Venom in SM3. Raimi had his vision of the film and it probably was better but Arad stepped in and said the fans wanted Venom. Out of huge props for Raimi I love that he did that, possbily including a villain that could ruin his story he did it for us. I think with prep from the start, Venom would of been excellent, though I liked him and Grace.

Vulture and Sandman were going to be the villains. Think how much that would of altered the story of the film. It would of been much better. Vulture oporates from jail while Sandman does the dirty work, a nice team up, and not forced, though thye would be forced to work together, it's better than the Batman team up.

Raimi has a contract with the studio. And has worked on these films since 2000. He's very hardworking and dedicated. I can't imagine what would happen if they were in the middle of the production and Raimi alked off.

If he threatened, this would of possbily made the studio and producers more toward Raimi and what he wanted.

After the sucess of SM1 and 2, the studio was focused on what they wanted or we wanted and not what the directr wanted, that's most important.

How are the stories not mature enough? S-M2: Peter has trouble balancing a dual life. He's late for work, and all is gonig wrong for him, so he decides to give up being a superhero. he meets a brilliant scientist, Otto Octavius, experiment goes wrong, Ock goes on a rampage. Forgivenss and redemption are great things for a story, if you ask me. Not trying to sound mean or anything, but I don't see how that isn't a mature enough story. I mean, he can relate to people.
