Spider-Man: Edge of Time - Part 1

All I'm hoping for out of this is a good Spider-Man game. same for the one coming out next summer to tie in with the film (which I think will be free roam).

I won't be expecting a free roam for the movie tie-in, I expect a no tie-in more

Never said that, but there is only so much they can do in 1 year of development.

Didn't they start on SD even before AC was worked on though? I remember there was a huge argument over which started development first. That should've given SD ENOUGH time...if it were first and all.

I didn't say it wasn't Joker, I said it wasn't JUST Joker. And a good alternative could have been Joker controlling a Titan-fueled Killer Croc. THAT would be awesome.

Eh...Titan-fueled Croc is something I would not have cared about. IF that were the final battle, then we would've just had a cinematic scene of Batman knocking out Joker, ala Harley. That would be stupid.

The whole story was unspectacular, it what it set out to do and nothing more. Sure you had side stories in Noir and 2099 but thats it. The third act was just in line with the rest of the game. And thats not even what ignorant means.

So you agree with that? Lol...Noir and 2099 had WAY better stories than the game overall, and that's sad.

So just because I don't want Unreal I don't care about the game? Thats moronic. Unreal isn't even the best looking engine out there. For console gaming that would be the Naughty Dog engine. And I happen to think that the graphics in SD were quite nice. Maybe not top tier but very fitting to the character.

I'm not saying Unreal is the best engine out there(that would be Battlefield 3's, imo), but Unreal would be the ideal engine to use in a game like this.

You say yourself that SD was a 7. How is that a bad game? Thats in the upper regions of a 10-point scale. Maybe not a great game but certainly a good one.

When Arkham Asylum received 8 and 9s, then yes, I will be picky and say a Spider-Man game needs to be on par.

That was about you thinking Beenox could just "take" more time to work on the game. It doesn't work like that. They get a deadline that they need to follow.

DEADLINE....but to begin work on it? There wasn't any games after Web of Shadows...it would've been great if they start on that game as soon as WoS was given its first awful review. Even though Activision sucks now, at least they start to work on their Call of Duty games immediately(which, imo, I still love the Modern Warfare games).

And while that "Samaritan" trailer sure is nice, graphics like that wouldn't run on todays consoles.

Well, no, of course not, but Unreal still makes the gameplay look freaking incredible and very detailed.

There is a reason no open world games uses Unreal for example.

Ahem....

Arkham City?

:awesome:

Read the article in the latest Game Informer magazine. Sounds like an interesting plot, and I love the design on Spidey's costume. Makes it look much more "organic" than the symmetrical web patter we're all used to.

I'll definitely be picking this one up. I'll miss Noir and Ultimate, but 2099 was one of my favorites from the last game.

They said they started developing SD before AA was out, which could mean they started a week before for all we know.

So you agree with that? Lol...Noir and 2099 had WAY better stories than the game overall, and that's sad.
Well there's not that much to disagree on really. Tho I enjoyed the story for what it was I can't with a straight face say it was a well written masterpiece.

I honestly don't know enough about game engines to talk about this, maybe UE is a perfect fit, I don't know. But I still like the one they use.

Well sure, but that wasn't really what it was about. It was you saying it Beenox didn't care because they made a bad game, and then you said it was a 7. Which admittedly isn't a bad score.

And again, it's Activision that decide when they start to work on the game. Beenox can't just decide to start working on a Spidey game just because they feel like it.

Well, yeah. But I meant open world more in the sense of GTA, with a full blown city with pedestrians and the like. There are no games like that using UE.

Read the article. Peter David is one of my favorite Spidey writers so I think the dialogue and story should be good.(Although I felt the dialogue in SD was really funny most times. My favorite being the Deadpool level.Nolan North and Josh Keaton tore it up.)Also happy to see CDB back as he and Keaton are my favorite voice actors.I really enjoyed SD and I love Spidey 2099 so I'm not going to discount this yet. I'm looking forward to what villains we might get.

Yeah the writing in SD was solid. It was very funny from time to time.

Even a week before AA went out though, imagine if they just took the time to get all the bugs out....:csad:

maybe I'm just complaining too much on what I want :woot:

Noir, though, imo, was a written masterpiece. That story alone, of Spidey going after Goblin, would be a great game if we were to get a Spider-Man Noir game.

Unreal would be the most ideal fit for a Spider-Man game. From what we've seen of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, to get a bright and colored New York City using Unreal WITH citizens and what not as a free roam game...it would be amazing(no pun intended, haha). Add in Green Goblin or Doc Ock(or better yet, the BOTH of them trying to take control of NY's gangs :wow:) and we'll have a great 616 game. Plus, we will definitely need great voice acting. Keaton for Spidey for the win.

I would like to say though, SD's cinematics were phenomenal.

7 is good, but still, I can say Beenox didn't care about this game, imo. I mean, stick with Spidey's villains. Rhino being pursued instead of Juggernaut would've been better, imo. And yes, Beenox should be at fault for that...wasn't it Beenox that thought of the villains? I heard somewhere that the villains were thought of and then they got a writer.

If anything, Activision needs to pull a MW with Beenox, imo. Start on a game immediately, or better yet, create a trilogy of games that would be awesome, like MW(that's IF MW3 is the trilogy we expect and not some stall game of Ghost's backstory).

I quote an earlier response of this reply:

That would be SUPERB to say the least. If Spider-Man 2 was as good as people have said, this would be a great comparison.

I am looking forward to seeing what they do with the movie tie in next year. I would assume they're already well underway developing that one. Wonder if it'll follow the movie, or contain an entirely new storyline like some of the past games have done?

Knowing it's Activision, we'll get the same movie storyline and added extras.

I'm not sure I get what you mean to be honest.

As I said before, the main story was nothing special, although I think it was well written and kinda enjoyed it for what it was trying to achieve. The sub-plots in Noir and 2099 was a little meatier, but still fell short because of the limited time they were given. Still good tho but just a bummer.

Well thats what I was getting at. Unreal is a great engine, no doubt about it. But it isn't built for open world games like GTA. So there really is no need for it. And if they choose to go linear they have their current engine which is their own, so they know the ins and outs of it.

See, thats were opinions come into play. I thought Juggernaut was an inspired choice, and were glad to have him instead of Rhino for what would've been the sixth time in a row. When they can mix and match, then why don't? In my opinion it makes the game feel like a part of the Marvel Universe.

And all the other stuff that to me shows Beenox cares. The game was filled with fan-service. Voice actors pulled from various animated series. (With, I might add, the two undoubtedly most popular ones returning for Edge of Time.) Over all good voice acting, getting fan favorite Dan Slott on board, getting Stan Lee, references to various Spider-Man arcs in the game, the biggest collection of alternate costumes in a Spidey game and so on. Even the idea of four different Spider-Men were probably somewhat grounded in fan-service, we would never get Noir or 2099 in a stand alone game.

Beenox started working on EoT before SD was released, so that is already what they are doing. Difference is that Infinity Ward and Treyarch (CoD developers) take turns releasing one game a year, so they have two year each to develop it.

If they are indeed to release a free-roam tie-in next year, I hope they already started working on it. Because in that case, when EoT is released that team can start to work on a follow up to it. Which can be released in 2013 or 2014. Getting a two year cycle and access to already existing tools. Kinda like Spider-Man 2/Ultimate Spider-Man.

But if I remember correctly, Activision has a policy of only one game per studio so probably not.

They haven't even started yet. Kevin Umbrict, producer at Activision, stated on the Marvel Wondercon live feed that they haven't started work on the ASM game yet. He said it's "too early". I completely disagree.

What a numb nut. Now I KNOW the game will suck. :csad:

If anything, it will be more of the same that we got from the previous movie tie in. It'll more than likely be free roam as well

Something something tie-in games suck something something.

But really, what? What a bunch of bull. No way is the game gonna be anything spectacular.

I still say they should just forget about making a movie tie-in and delay Edge of Time to next year and making it as badass as possible. After all, I doubt the Batman brand was damaged because a movie tie-in to The Dark Knight wasn't released.

Well, hopefully it's at least decent. Mainly if it's free roam.

After brushing the dust away from inFamous and spending some minutes with it again, I realised how alive the city feels there. The citiziens reaction to Cole is truly great. It's also neat to see how some poor citiziens search for food in garbage cans and how some people try to comfort hurt ones etc. Some people gather around and take pictures of Cole and salute him etc.

It then came to me that this is how a Spider-Man game should be. I want a free roam Spider-Man game that is just as detailed as the world of inFamous. Imagine Spider-Man interacting with such a breathing city life in New York. That would be so awesome!

Yeah, that said though, it would need to be a lot deeper than simply people cheering and waving their arms or booing.

It's probably because they haven't gotten any materials from the studio for the game yet, that's why the tie-in games suck. They don't get the materials in enough time to make a worth while game.

I'd like a free roam Spidey game, as long as the side missions are good, ie, no balloon bs. Spidey 2 was fun for the free roam, but the mission stuff sucked.
