I think it's just for the "Ahhh. I see what you did there" effect. But honestly, if you see someone with a gun on their shirt do you think "Oh, man! That person must be associated with guns." No. They have a gun on their shirt, it's a common object to see. Same with webs. They have a cool effect, what's stopping her from wearing it? Hell, if a company makes it, then others are wearing it, too! Your problem with it is just so...flat.

OK for starters, web swinging works OK with the controls. However, the combat which has some cool elements like web zipping through the air to enemies with jetpacks is neat, but it is hard to do.

Also, Spider-Man 2099 has this decoy/shadow technique that looks neat but was also hard to use.

Instead of the spider-sense it seems you have this chronal meter you can build up. When it is full you can unleash a paradox attack and it slows down your enemies and gives you more time to beat them up.

I never really got to play Ultimate Spider-Man that much but it looked good. The Treyarch Spider-Man games are still my favorite. I mean don't get me wrong the Arkham Asylum games are awesome, but I think people forget how cool that first Spider-Man game on PSX/N64/Dreamcast was and how it was actually well done.

I love Arkham Asylum, and I love the PS1 Spidey games more

Well, we already know that the Identity Crisis pack (Ricochet, Hornet, Prodigy, Dusk, all with special in-game abilities), Future Foundation, Black Suit, Miles Morales, and Big Time are in.

As for personal preferences, there's a few cool 2099 variants that I've found around. It would be neat to see some of these:

Arkham City isn't nearly as extreme. I can see her underwear, for God's sake.
