Ah, there it is. The classic "if you don't like it, you can watch the old movies/read the comics" how about I watch this movie, Yeah? The movie is based on the SAME property so there are always going to be certain expectations and elements to be retained. That being said, I had no problem with Homecoming's diverse cast. BUT there were certain characters who I, as someone who has been reading the comics and cartoons for 22 years - would have preferred to stay their original race. Mary Jane is one of those characters and my main issue with her was the fact that she was nothing like MJ from past form of Spidey literature but yes, I wanted MJ to look the part too. And that does not make me (a black man) or ANYBODY ELSE a bigot or "against progress" Because we want iconography to be respected and not thrown and dismissed because "progress"

It's no different from wanting Spider-Man to still wear a red and blue or Vulture to have his wings.

You can want those things but there is difference between wanting and then accepting if it doesn't happen and wanting / demanding it happens and not giving the new thing a chance? I think the argument of the go and watch the old stuff is as valid as wanting stuff to stay the same. You might ask why they can't just be the same as always while others might say why not change things for once instead of having the same thing again, I don;t think one is more valid then then the other

And no it doesn't make you a racist etc but for some people the reason they are against it is racist, for example one Youtuber's video going into how unnatural it is for a black person to have red hair and how that can't be etc (even if its dyed)

Also just to add my opinion on this MJ thing they've said she isn't Mary Jane but she might be a love interest etc but I actually think the mystery of it is exciting and interesting. Zendaya character has no real affiliation to any comic character etc by exact name so in these movies her character could be anything or anyone, she could be a love interest or even end up being a villain or just a minor background character To me that is what makes her character interesting and exciting as these movies go forward

So is it just me, or is this film the perfect time to do Kraven's Last Hunt?

I mean if we think about it, the same internal conflicts Peter deals with in the book is what he'll deal with in this movie. The first is that he might die if he keeps doing this, the second is him reflecting on the people that die around him.

The first inner conflict of the book is inevitable in this film due to Thanos and the Aunt May thing. The second inner conflict is inevitable if Tony dies. And it sounds like the movie will start with a somber Peter like in the comic from what Feige is implying.

So I'm gonna break the mold and guess that Gyllenhaal is playing Kraven .

Since its all but confirmed that Gyllenhaal is Mysterio, I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. But I wouldn't be surprised if they teased Kraven in one of the stingers.

 gotta agree with this post here. I'm also a black dude, and while I don't mind race changing as much I'm sick of seeing people being called racist for not wanting race changes. It's such a cheap argument & a terrible blanket statement for 'losers and comic nerds'. It's especially odd when they call those same people close minded without a hint of irony

Isn't Gyllenhaal playing Mysterio tho? Either way I don't see them doing that storyline in high school

He-she Harry! He-she Harry!

Doooo iiiittttt.

In come the TLJ/Kennedy/"you total cuckadoodles!" types to hate the Spideymanz too.

“That’s one of the main reasons we’re not going to Hall H this year,” he continues, “is because Ant Man & the Wasp will have just been released, Infinity War will be out, Captain Marvel will have just finished filming, Spider-Man will have just started filming, and we’re not gonna be making any other announcements. So we’re gonna wait until Comic-Con next year.” A quote by Kevin Feige regarding San Diego Comic Con that furthermore confirms that filming starts in July.

I don't really get how she's "interesting." She was the sarcastic loner and then Marvel and Watts kept puling the 'is she or is she not Mary Jane Watson' dangling the carrot up and down on the fans. Once it turned out, her name was just Michelle Jones but 'my friends called me MJ'... to me at least it felt like what the "TMNT" reboot film did with Eric Sachs who originally was said to be a white-versioned of Oroku Saki before script changes and fan hate made them to add back in Oroku Saki playing against William Fichtner's Sachs.

If they really wanted her to be Mary Jane Watson, some fans would've eventually came around and accepted her as a black version of the character. Others wouldn't and that's okay too. (As long as it doesn't get into ******* fans going onto Zendaya's Facebook, Twitter or Instagram page and ripping her to shreds for playing such an iconic character.)

I may have not agreed with some of the changes made to characters over the years (whatever the superhero franchise it may be) or changes to canon and origin stories but some people take it too far and I agree that people can have legitimate distaste or disapproval for changes as long as they aren't a complete ******* about it and people aren't complete *******s back to them for them innocently voicing their concerns in a civil manner.

I think you misread what I wrote. She is interesting because her character is still a mystery, she has the MJ initials and could be a Mary Jane type love interest but because she doesn't have the exact name or is tied down to any other characters name her character could be anything from a lover interest to even a villain. They can take her character anywhere they want and that. at least to me, is intriguing and exciting

While I do find her interesting, I think the backlash is understandable. I mean, part of the reason for it is the MJ drought that exists everywhere else. She's never been done right in live-action. She hasn't been with Peter in the comics for 10 years. I don't think people would mind this take that much if there was a classic MJ in other mediums for them to latch onto. As it stands Marvel has an uphill battle for those reasons.

I don't think that's necessarily always a racist thinking.

Saying someone who isn't white, doing something white people do is unnatural is not racist to you?

Christ......
Saying it's unnatural for a black person to have red hair doesn't necessarily always seem like racist thinking to me. Would it be racist to say white people have white skin and it's not natural for a black person to make their skin white? Honestly I don't know if black people can have red hair naturally. But that's what I kinda make as a comparison in my mind.

Black people don’t typically naturally have red hair but hair dye is a thing, so that’s....not an issue. And Zendaya is biracial anyway. But it’s already established Michelle doesn’t have red hair, unless as some suspect, she undergoes an Ally Sheedy esque makeover in the second one and becomes more like classic MJ.

I'd have to question the mindset of any creator who specifically looks for a fight with their audience.

When the audience in question is a toxic minority of the fanbase that makes it unappealing for new fan to join the community and gives all the rest of us non-racist, misogynistic, bigoted nerds a bad name, then I think it's absolutely in the right to "pick a fight" with them. When you have actors quitting social media due to "fan" harassment and comment sections (Including ones for this casting call) flooded with the worst the Internet has to offer, there's a problem. The nerd community is in bad need of some house cleaning sessions.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I rewatched Civil War. Homecoming pretty much takes place right after Civil War. And Infinity War is what, a year or two after that? So Parker should be a senior in the sequel?

I hope that happens. Waiting to see her story.

I would say Infinity War is a year at most from Civil War. So, depending on how soon after Infinity War is the sequel, he would either be a Junior or Senior.

When Mary Jane makes it to the Homecoming Premiere but not the movie.

I would have been fine with Zendaya as MJ, but I really hope they don't try to shoehorn it now, develop her into the character over time. She's just way too different in Homecoming (and I actually like the character), just keep them separate people going forward.
