Far From Home Spider-Man: Far From Home General Discussion and Speculation - Part 1

Osborn is not limited to only being the Green Goblin. He can play a completely different role in not only this movie but the wider MCU. Norman could be the main villain of an Avengers film by himself. (Siege and Dark Reign) He's a major player in the wider MCU.

And let's face it, Green Goblin is to Spider-Man what the Joker is to Batman. He's the greatest Spider-Man villain. The only one that can even come close to taking that title is Doc Ock. Sooner or later, you're going to have to use Spidey's most dangerous, personal villain.

Agreed.

I kinda agree with the Osborn saga all over again, but I am curious to see Marvel Studios' version of the Green Goblin. No doubt much closer to the source material.

I'm going to be blunt here: If they incorporate the Osborns/Goblin/Oscorp in any way, shape, or form, I'll be extremely disappointed. So many other great storylines and characters from the comics, there's really no excuse for them to go back to one they've used twice in a row now. I'm ok with them bringing the Bugle in and maybe Doctor Octopus, but please, no more of the Goblin, no more Harry, I am so burnt out.

I think this is the most fitting of the three continuities to do Goblin in. Personally I wouldn't worry too much about it feeling redundant. I feel Goblin can/should get the Dark Knight treatment. I don't mean they should copy TDK, I mean a film that makes audience go "Ah, so that's what the Spidey/Goblin dynamic is all about." Kinda like how Homecoming reintroduces the hero like Begins but not like in Begins.

The thing is, Sony and Marvel don't have to do anything. They cannot and should not include things in the films just because "that's the way it is in the comics". They could easily substitute Vulture for Green Goblin in terms of most dangerous and most recurring bad guy, which would be cool because personally I find Keaton's portrayal of this character more interesting and complex a main threat than any past or potentially future film iterations of Green Goblin, and I LOVED Dafoe's Goblin.

tl;dr - Marvel and Sony should keep doing their own thing, and not do things just because the comics dictate it.

I agree that they're important to lore, but it'd be dumber if Marvel and Sony do everything the comics and fans say they "have" to do. Let 'em do whatever the hell they want, that's what made Homecoming so great. I couldn't care less if the Osborns were left out entirely.

Ehh, non-Goblin Norman reeks of that recent-comics thing. Sorta like Spidey being frequently up alongside The Avengers.

Meh, schmeh. Osborne doesn't have to be the Green Goblin already by his first appearance, but he'd damn better be before long.

I would build up to Norman. People compare him to the Joker and that's fair... And just like the Joker I've had my full of him to last for some time. Give the other Spidey rogues a chance. Norman should be built up to for a long time. Given Garfield's age I wouldn't mind Norman or the Goblin stuff not being touched until a third or even fourth film.

Yeah, couple of minor villains for Pete in his highschool years, Osborne's introduced as Harry's dad here in the second movie, then by the time they get around to a first-movie-with-Peter-in-college, movie 4 or whatever, have Norman go full-on bananaballs schitzo serum-crazy and get pretty dark with the story there.

Tbh, I don't expect any of these Gwen Stacys, Harry Osborns, etc in this sequel. Not yet.

I want Kraven by the third film. Maybe they could have him as a recurring villain to build up to some version of Kraven's Last Hunt in the future.

And that's a bad thing WHY? Marvel has no qualms with drawing from modern storylines. Thanos in IW drew more on Infinity than the original Infinity Gauntlet storyline. They clearly don't have the disdain for modern comics you apparently do.

Kraven is so overdue for a film appearance. Ock can wait.
If they're setting up the S6 then no he can't. Ock is overdue for another movie appearance. The last time he was used was nearly 15 years ago, he'll be fresh to most people and he's essential to the S6 lineup. Kraven can be a supporting villain like Shocker and Tinkerer

Lol no Kraven can carry his own movie just fine. As for Ock I personally would be fine with never seeing him again, make room for more unused villains.

I never said he couldn't, just that Otto should take priority over Kraven if they plan on ending this trilogy with the Sinister Six. And I wouldn't be fine with that. Doc Ock will be 17 years fresh come time for Spider-Man 3 and he rivals Norman Osborn for title of the greatest Spider-Man villain, he needs to make a return at some point. And I know you said you don't care about the comics so this doesn't matter to you but you could use that same exact logic to question why Spider-Man has to wear a red and blue suit and shoot webs. Or why he has to be a HS kid with relatable problems. The comics are the justification for all of these elements that you saw in Homecoming just like it's justification for Doc Ock or Osborn although the latter of whom I understand people being sick of. Ock doesn't have that problem at all, though.

Good point. And I'm not 100% against Ock being used again. I would just prefer Marvel and Sony continue to do their own thing rather than cater to fans.

Ehh, no disdain. But if you're using Osborne, go the real deal, have him as Goblin rather than generic-evil-businessman/the whole Illuminati crap.

You'd build up to Goblin, but he should get there eventually.

By Odin's beard you're right. I didn't notice it has been that long!!!!!

If they do Norman again, they won't be retreading the Green Goblin plotline. There's so much more for him to do, especially now that he's a part of the wider MCU. I'd much rather get Dark Reign than another take on the Goblin storyline.

https://***********/zendayamedias/status/1006672731428007936 Zendaya's dad confirms that 1) she's back for SMH2, and 2) she's "about" to go start shooting the film. Putting my bets on late june but that's a big if. Probably July.

I'm hoping they do the Green Goblin at one point. It's not the end-all-be-all of what you can do with Norman, but part of what makes him Spidey's archenemy is that he puts on a mask and feels the same freedom Peter does. He's quippy like Spidey. That and green is opposite to red on the color spectrum. I feel a Norman without GG in the long run would be too similar to Lex Luthor and not as distinct of a Spider-Man villain anymore (not that he should only be a Spider-Man villain but some unique parallels to Spidey would be gone).
