Far From Home Spider-Man: Far From Home General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

I hope they show Mysterio tapping into Spidey’s deepest fears, sorrows and regrets and using those against spidey. It would be fantastic to go into a brief flashback of uncle ben’s death and spidey’s arrogance early on with his powers. If Mysterio taps into these and mentally screws with Spidey that would be visually really neat to see

I'd like this as long as they don't get too dark. Mysterio runs the risk of being Diet Scarecrow if not used correctly.

l'l be shocked if Uncle ben is even a thing in this series tbh. I feel like any of that stuff is gonna be on Tony Stark, but we will see.

I will say this though, i bet Mysterios power will somehow be connected to one of the infinity stones after the end of Infinity war.

I see nothing remotely close to suggesting that. His power will be his knowledge of sfx tech & maybe use some alien tech & power source to pull off his grand illusions.

Like Toomes however, i think he will find out something that may reveal Spidey is Peter...if Toomes himself doesn't give it away.

Well i always think back to the stuff Thanos could make appear using the glove.

Mysterio's whole thing is that he doesn't have powers, that it's all elaborate parlor tricks to make people think he does.

Then I'd rather have the holo-cubes from the 90's cartoon, than Mysterio getting his hands on one of the infinity stones.

I think nanites would be cool, bring his illusions to life.

We already had that Vulture vs Spidey artwork for Homecoming by this point, right?
Kinda got Jake confirmed, we saw the Spidey costume on TV, so Mysterio should be next.

Mysterio would be a great way of introducing Uncle Ben into this series. Sort of how TSSM used the symbiote story to delve into Peter's origin as Spider-Man and Uncle Ben.

Nathan Fillion for Uncle Ben.

Just kidding, he would be a good choice. I mean, technically he already played Simon Williams in GotG 2 but his scene was deleted, so who cares.

I just dunno how you would separate Peters despair and regret for his uncle and his respect and looking up too his mentor figure.

So far Stark has had a huge involvement in Peters journey to becoming spider-man in 3 films so far and to introduce an Uncle Ben would probably have the character be around the same age as Tony Stark anyway, since Marisa Tomei is about the same age as Robert Downey JR.

But at the moment Tony kinda has a head start in that area. even going back to Ironman 2 where they kinda retconned the kid int he iron man ask to be Peter apparently.

I suppose you could say that peter looks up to tony out of guilt for his uncle who he seems alot in tony... but that would kinda undermine tony is some ways, and i dunno if they would do that. personally i don't think they would.

Except Uncle Ben is the core of the character and the entire reason why Peter became Spider-Man "When you can do the things that I can, but you don't and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you". Stark is only being used as a vehicle to tie Spidey to the MCU but Ben is still wayyy more important to him than Tony Stark in the MCU

Well so far that's not true in the MCU which is no problem to me. I like their relationship alot

But it's not, Uncle Ben is still an integral part of the MCU version. Peter has had a lot of mentors over the years (which included Stark, Curt Conners, George Stacy etc) But Uncle Ben will always be Peter's guiding light and the voice in the back of his head. Tony Stark can never compare to the importance of Ben.

I think there is a good chance Ben shows up in FFH. There was a casting call for an older mentor like figure for Peter according to Greg from Make Mine Marvel - so it's entirely possible.

He hasn't been mentioned once though. infact his great responsibility line was gonna be an in joke message from tony stark before they cut that line out.

What they said at the time though is that they wanted to leave that part blank for people to make their own minds up about whether uncle ben existed or not.

When was this, exactly?

And it was a direct allusion to Uncle Ben. Even the Russos themselves confirmed it
Joe Russo: And he’s not a kid who would necessarily come to that kind of profound realization yet. He still has a journey to go. You’re correct. It shouldn’t be in this film that he comes to that. However, we were intimating that there is a complicated history that this kid has, that there is an Uncle Ben in his past, and that’s something that clearly happened.

Which one? the line that was cut?

According to the film’s writers, Spider-Man: Homecoming originally housed the series’ most famous line. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein opened up to Yahoo! Movies about changes they made to the film’s script, and the pair admitted one unlikely character nodded to the iconic Spider-Man quote.

“At the end when Happy (Jon Favreau) is in the boy’s room in school we had him say, ‘Oh yeah, Tony wanted me to tell you, “With great power comes… something, I forgot,” Goldstein said before adding, “It was a little too meta.”

The one about whether letting people make their minds up if here

During a recent interview with CinemaBlend, the Marvel executive revealed the real reason behind Uncle Ben’s absence. “The truth is, we want audiences to bring their own... let them fill in those blanks right now. They've seen the other films. They've read comics. They can fill that in,” Feige explained.

Huh. I hadn't seen that quote.. But still, they cut it from the script and it was never filmed.

Feige is saying that because there wasn't really a need to explore Spidey's origin. We've seen it twice now. But that does not mean Uncle Ben is meant to be an enigma in the MCU. He existed. He is the reason Peter became a hero and he can come up again in FFH. Especially since Mysterio is the villain

LOL. So not at all what you said about them wanting to make audiences wonder if Ben Parker existed or not. Feige is saying "everyone knows the origin, we don't need to show that again."

Now, as far as I remember, Ben never actually said the iconic line in the comics, but giving that line to Stark would have been really wrong. I'm already upset at them making Stark the inspiration for Peter during the ASM #33 montage.

Gonna have to say that Tony Stark is THE mentor / main person Peter looks up to right now. I don’t think they’ll delve into Ben any time soon.
