Far From Home Spider-Man: Far From Home General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the fact that Ultimate Mysterio was just classic Mysterio hopping dimensions to mess with people in another dimension, he could be doing that here or he could be full of ****. Given how the director is talking about it now I'm guessing Mysterio won't be conning them on the fact that he's from another earth.

I'm surprised theyre going all in on the idea of Spider-Man being the next Iron Man or at the very least flirting with the idea. Given Marvel doesn't fully own this incarnation of Spider-Man seems kinda risky. Maybe its a play by Marvel to get Sony to make a new deal? Well make Spider-Man the next Iron-Man if you commit to another 5/6 picture deal.

Problem with the deal is that Sony don't profit unless they make solo movies of Spider-man, and they have yet to make a 4th movie of any superhero. probably because there are only so many movies they can make with various character. not even iron man got a 4th movie.

So Sony would profit from a 3rd. which may be seen as worth it by them. marvel could include him in 1 or 2 more other movies... but after that, who knows what gonna happen. the moment Marvel are profiting more from spidey than sony... thats an issue.

It is interesting. Spider-Man IS the flagship Marvel character. The MCU did the impossible and made Iron Man the A-list center of the universe and now the stage is there for Spider-Man to be the audience's center to go forward with.

Not quite true. Sony get all the profits from the standalone movies but get nothing from Avengers.

True but I've always thought, even back during the Raimi days, that Spider-man is the one character you can get away with doing more than 3 solo movies. Especially since they purposely casted a younger actor in the role this time around.

Perhaps, but at the same time would you look at Iron man, Thor, Captain America and say nah there are no more stories to tell with these guys?... no its not a case of there isn't more to tell. its just a case of them clearly not making 4th movies for them. and Iron man 4 could potentially have made an easy billion.

And then of course

They're really leaning into the whole legacy idea with Iron Man and I can't help but feel like this arc would be better served for the Harley kid, Morgan or Riri Williams. Y'know, actual Iron Man characters.

Maybe it's just the longtime Spidey fan in me that feels a bit alienated

Yes and without solo movies they don't profit.

Ah I see what you mean now. I dont see why they wouldnt renew for more than 1 more solo film tho? As you say it benefits them more than Marvel. It would make sense to limit the team up movies so Marvel and Disney doesn't get as much profit even tho Disney gets all the merchandising so they win either way. I doubt there will be another team up movie before Avengers 5 anyway so Avengers 5 would probably be the only team up movie they need to include on the next deal. So that limits Disney's profits it gets from Spider-Man in terms of movies.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I hate the idea that movies should stop at 3 just because people think the word "trilogy" is cool. It's really dumb. You could make 10 or more Spider-Man movies without a reboot (yeah, you'd change actors a few times, but whatever).

Exactly. And Sony were very close to making a 4th Spider-Man that was going to kick off a second trilogy with Toby its just that Raimi couldn't commit to a May 2011 release date.

I'm sure Sony would be happy if Marvel made a 4th movie. but that comes down to whether marvel would make a 4th or after he has appeared in the MCU 5 or 6+ times already that they may decide to use that space for another character or series. they can only make so many a year before they move on to another series for another phase.

3 things to wonder...

1) Given how he wasn't seen, heard, talked about, etc; I wonder if they are turning Tony Stark into Uncle Ben. Because Peter is acting like how he would do or has done after Ben's death, given him weight on when a student has to become the mentor and doesn't feel like he can, and thus they're applying the MCU onto Spidey's character. I just don't like the "Spidey is the new Iron Man" because Spider-Man SHOULD JUST BE SPIDER-MAN.

but...

2) I also wonder, with this direction and notice on Peter and Tony that in the MCU, Peter will take over Stark's company and take the recent route they did in the comics and have Parker Industries, or something similar.

and...

3) Mysterio creates illusions, correct? What if the multiverse, maybe even the Elementals but that might be pushing it maybe, Mysterio being a hero, everything is all a lie? A lie that has fooled even Nick Fury, but Peter will ultimately find out.

Thats it so far.

I have always said Tom should play Spider-Man as long as possible. I would be perfectly happy with 5-6 Spider-Man movies, maybe the last of which Peter begins to train Miles Morales.

It's certainly plausible that the Elementals are Mysterio's creation. In the comics, Robotics is one of his main skills so creating giant robots that look like monsters would fit.

Spider-Man has always been Marvel's tentpole character, so I'm okay with this direction. My only concern is that they literally make him the next Iron Man; ala the Iron-Spider Suit, all the Stark tech, Happy being his 'Q', etc...

Didn't Doctor Strange already establish that the Multiverse is indeed real? Not sure why everyone is acting like this is anything new.
No, the Ancient One clearly mentioned the Multiverse in it. The Dark Dimension itself is another dimension within the multiverse.

The Ancient One : [as Doctor Strange is being moved through various dimemsions of the Multiverse] You think you know how the world works? You think that this material universe is all there is? What is real? What mysteries lie beyond the reach of your senses? At the root of existence, mind and matter meet. Thoughts shape reality. This universe is only one of an infinite number. Worlds without end. Some benevolent and life giving. Others filled with malice and hunger. Dark places where powers older than time lie ravenous... and waiting. Who are you in this vast multiverse, Mr. Strange?

Strange also told Stark "Protecting your reality, D-bag" so he knows they have other realities and other verses.

I don't like the idea of the multiverse. It means any character that has died thus far can return; thus cheapening their death...including Uncle Ben.

I guess this is how Marvel introduces X-Men and the Fantastic 4.

Another version that is different in personality and maybe appearance and not our beloved characters that we know.

Fine with me. I doubt we'll get someone major like Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr back besides maybe cameos anyway

Watching Kevin Smith's take on the trailer on Youtube now, he has some theories.

The part with MJ and Peter where she randomly reveals she knows he's spidey and doesn't seem to give a damn is bugging me. I'm thinking she'll be like JK after that part or it's Mysterio messing with him though

I wouldn't read too much into the "new Iron Man" thing. Spidey has always worked best as the lovable loser who struggles to do what the Captain Americas and Iron Mans manage with more ease, and he's already featured as much as he was ever gonna be... a film every 2-3 years and supporting parts in the Avengers. I don't think many folks want to see this Peter grow up and become mature enough to lead the team or whatever. The mention is there to enhance the drama of his connection to Tony and underscore the pressure that's now on him, which I think works nicely.
