Far From Home Spider-Man: Far From Home General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

sony has been obsessed with a s6 since arad finally got his venom in SM3 lol

in the email hacks they thought it'd make 2 billion lmao

And trying to get to a s6 takes time and the villain's in HC and FFH are much better then the villain's in amazing Spiderman 1 and 2 and MCU Spiderman could likely set up S6 very nicely by like a 4th movie.

Sony isn't in the wrong here. Hope you guys know that. All the "ranting" and #boycottsony nonsense is too much. This was a strategic leak from what I'm hearing. And D23 is right around the corner, where Disney is expected to show off the Marvel-themed attractions coming to their theme parks, led by who else? Spider-Man. And that's been in construction for a while now.

I've heard a couple of different sources say they think a deal might be reached in time for D23, we'll see. But Disney expecting 50% is far too steep imo. A deal in the 15-20% range is more realistic.

I don't see this being "officially over" as most or reporting, and as most of Twitter seem to believe (lol) this is very much one of these studios (Sony) leaking this intentionally. Outside of the marvelites giving Sony a hard time, most seem to think 50% was far too much to ask for, and Sony was right to reject that.
I totally Agree .
Sony had no choice.
20% would be a gift for Marvel in this situation.

From what I understand, Disney was the one hellbent on sticking to 50%, that's why this was leaked from the jump, because Disney wouldn't accept anything less and was strong-arming Sony.

I could see Disney being greedy about it because of how big they are but also from Sony's past I have a hard time beliving them lol.

I‘m not worried for Homesomething 3
I‘m disappointed, that we won‘t see Spidey interacting with the MCU characters like Doctor Strange, Hulk, Happy and in X-men and F4 movies.
Oh and of course Blade :D
The best of the MCU Spiderman was his chemistry with other MCU characters, not his solo movies (which I really enjoyed)

Does sony also have tv rights? Is it possible for holland to continue as spidey on tv with a big budget disney+ show?

According to Grace Randolph, there's nothing to worry about

I agree with a lot of what she says here. Disney already has rights to feature Spider-Man in their theme parks, which they are taking advantage of by featuring Spider-Man as the main attraction in their upcoming Marvel-themed experience (already in construction mind you). And has 100% merchandising rights from Sony, which is insane tbh.

Plus after Sony's "statement" following the leak today, something definitely doesn't seem "kosher" here. My guess is that we'll see a deal reached sooner rather than later. Disney seems invested in Spider-Man being a main player not just in the MCU but in their theme parks as well, I think they'll end up taking a more realistic percentage.

That's not going to happen. Holland is under contract with Sony, he's Sony's guy. They're even giving him the Uncharted movie. Spider-Man isn't being rebooted.

I would be ok with Sony taking Spider-Man away from MCU. I'm not a big fan of this version of Spidey. I have feeling that they make a deal and he stays the MCU. If he doesn't then would be great to see Spider-Man and Venom in a same movie.

Isn't she wrong about everything, though? She was the one proclaiming Oscorp was gonna be in FFH and blow everybody's minds, most recently.

Right now the TV rights thing seems muddied. 10 years ago Sony gave the animated TV rights back to Marvel which is why we lost Spectacular Spider-Man. Sony's developing Spider-Man related live action TV shows, but also cartoons? I'm not sure what the deal is but they're working on some things with Lord and Miller for TV, no way I see any live action Spidey project winding up on Disney +.

Didnt someone mention he unfollowed sony on social media? Maybe he wants out now?

As for as I know she had a "theories" video for FFH, where she thought Oscorp would show up. But she isn't, as you put it, "wrong about everything". Plus, it's pretty much known Feige does have a personal affinity for Spider-Man and does have a plan, perhaps even in motion (which this news might derail, of introducing Norman into the MCU.

Wouldn't that be something if he pulls an Andrew Garfield and offends the top Sony brass outing himself of the role?

Tom Holland unfollowed both Sony and Sony pictures on Instagram

Was he even following them to begin with?

Yeah, someone please clear this up.

This happens from time-to-time. Someone will claim so-and-so unfollowed this person and it spreads only for it to turn out they were never following them to begin with.

That sounds iffy to me. Holland pitched his version of Uncharted to Sony, a vehicle for him that he's potentially totally wrong for. They are making that version. I don't think he'll be making anything other than neutral statements about the Spider-Man situation, if he says anything at all.

Same here. I will say though qualitatively we can have an argument about what the quality will look like on Spider-Man films going forward, from a financial standpoint this could be the best thing that could have happened for Tom Holland personally. Sony in order to keep him as Spider-Man is going to offer him the Sun, the moon, and the Stars. Sony no doubt is seeing the backlash that we are all seeing everywhere on the internet. I think Sony knows fans are not happy if they lose Tom Holland as Spider-Man. More so then Marvel Studios and Kevin feige, I think Sony values Tom Holland as Spider-Man. So I see them offering Tom Holland as much as it will take to keep him in the role as long as they can. This means Tom Holland may command a higher asking price from Sony due to the divorce.

Exactly.
But that doesn't fit the narrative tho

We’ve seen how good actors can “perform” when they’re not happy with their circumstances on a film.

Totally agreed, but I don't think that really matters much to Sony. So long as he is physically there I think that is all they care about. So I expect him being offered a very fat check to keep him for as long as they can. To most people just seeing Tom Holland will keep the association of Spider-Man and the connected Marvel Universe. At least that is definitely going to be the strategy. Which I tend to agree with. I think we fans pay attention to the stuff religiously but the average person who sees these movies and makes up most of the box-office do not

That means nothing at the end of the day. Twitter is nothing but a bunch of negative nancies and whining about something. To most people they will see Tom Holland in another Spider-Man film and they will say oh it is a sequel to the last one. I like the last one. So I will go see it. It's not flopping. Venom got nothing but negative Twitter buzz basically its entire existence and it laughed all the way to over eight hundred million dollars
That's my main fear. Sony is just going to use Tom Holland to trick the public.
Sig-worthy.
going to use it lmao
There's no ****ing way the next movie is going to be good.

I'm sorry but there's literally no scenario in which that's possible. You can't continue Holland's Spidey in any satisfying way if you can't reference the MCU. It's impossible.
Agreed
People said the same thing about Venom & that makes almost $1 Billion & is decently liked
Liked is a relative word

Probably right, but I don’t know how many more successful films they’ll get out of him. A few sure, but the universe seems too limited long term without benefiting from larger exposure. Same would apply to pretty much every solo superhero or solo hero character in general.

Sony needs MCU more than MCU needs them and Sony at this point. The two movies relied on events that took place in the MCU, his whole relationship with Stark plays a big part. He will have to make everything on his own and not mention Stark or his tech. No Happy Hogan either, I hope Holland continues. I still expect something to be worked out they have a good thing going in terms of the character be liked and the stories. Marvel already have a bunch of plans with future movies and characters that have not interacted with Parker, so the loss won't hurt them there. He was great with the original core, but with MCU entering a new phase with new things they can hold out longer than Sony.
This. Marvel Studios are just going to replace the Spider-Man movies with some of their properties, and this time they'll get to keep all the money they earn.

I cannot even begin to imagine how they will manage to phase out the character in a way that makes sense
They'll just say that he died on the way to his home planet, Poochie style. :o
