Just read an article saying that a Marvel VP might have accidentally announced this game is slated for this year!!!

Marvel Digital Media VP slips release window for Spider-Man PS4

Yeah, this is actually a month old, but for some reason people are only now finding it.

Neogaf even has a new thread on it:

Worth a read through. They say Insomniac are very efficient developers and have gotten their past games out relatively quick.

Sunset Overdrive: Announced E3 2013, showed up again at E3 2014 with gameplay and released that same year.

Ratchet and Clank (PS4): Announced E3 2014, supposed to release in 2015 but the movie got delayed to 2016 and since it was a movie tie-in so did the game.

Now Insomniac have the biggest team they've ever had for Spider-Man PS4 and it's not a movie tie-in so it could indeed release this year. Maybe we'll get a Game Informer cover with the game's official title and some more info before E3 and then show gameplay at E3 2017 with a release date?

Yep, gives me faith that they'll try to get Spider-Man out as soon as possible.

Edit: Looks like Insomniac has responded to all the kerfuffle.

I expected this kind of response. What else were they going to say?

I figured as much last year with the movie coming this summer. Would be great timing to cross promote

If true, this year has a chance of becoming the greatest PS year in a long time. I really didn't expect this game to come out earlier than 2018. If true, that is...

feels like if it were coming out this year, we would have heard more about it.

but, who knows, maybe we'll see more at E3, for a release later in the year.

I think 2017 is not impossible seeing how efficient Insomniac are,but I'm still thinking Spring/Summer 2018.

I'm hoping it's the latter. The longer the wait the better the experience... right? :thf:

Sunset Overdrive started production in September 2011 and came out in October 2014. We know from LinkedIn that Spidey started production in October 2014 just after Sunset and that it uses both Sunset and Ratchet's engine,so they didn't create new assets from the ground-up. It COULD come out in November-December so I still take that as a possibility given how smoothly Insomniac usually works.

Ok, I'll buy it not long after I purchase a PS4 then.

Even though Insomniac has been good at finishing their projects quickly, I hope they wait until February-March to release it so they can polish it as much as they can. I don't think it'll negatively affect the sales anyway

I get the feeling God of War is coming next March. I can see Spidey getting released in May close to Infinity War. Two monster killer apps for Sony right there.

why would they do that? they said they wouldn't do such a thing. it'll read too much to people that it's to market the movie. it may not be exclusively his own movie, but fans of games will get the wrong message that they've fallen back to the days to that a game has to come out as the same time as marvel movie (any comic movie game link) and the game won't be good.

Hopefully they avoid that. cause that's what the audience will think.

I think you could be right if this was coming close to Spider-Man Homecoming. He will just be a little part of a giant Team in Avengers. Besides,Telltale is launching Guardians of the Galaxy close to the movie too. Spider-Man has already been developed for a long time.

How would everyone here feel about 2 different control schemes? 1 for traversal/acrobatics and other 1 for combat? Boths control schemes could share a few moves, but I feel that to get the most authentic Spidey experience, the controls need to be more versatile

I'd be down for a context-specific control scheme. That way it's not jack of all trades at any time and risking complicating things.

Might be a good idea so that you have more potential button inputs for each of the 2 activities rather than trying to map every control to one setting on the controller.

Agent M just randomly tweeted a gif of Spider-man PS4, think he's teasing something?

I kind of feel like starting a conversation for "discussions sake" but...

What is the most fond memory you have playing a Spider-Man game? It could be anything...

- Boss battle
- Level
- Mechanic
- Dialogue

etc etc

The reason I bring up this topic is because, last night I was watching Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2. As I'm sure everyone is aware, the movie starts off with Peter trying to deliver pizzas on time and switches into costume so he doesn't have to deal with traffic. For whatever reason, I had a PTSD flashback of trying to deliver pizzas in Spider-Man 2. haha

I have to say, that was a fun side mission to play. It really tested your web-swinging capabilities and, on top of that, they were pretty harrowing missions. If anyone can recall, you'd get graded based on how well you could keep the pizza from flopping around in the carrier.

Man I tell you, there were times when I'd get almost the perfect delivery and, out of my control, Spider-Man would land a certain way and go into an automatic roll animation. GAH! That used to infuriate me. haha Especially when you're doing the later missions that, realistically, you could only achieve success if you had the perfect momentum/groove.

I really hope obscure missions like that are included in the PS4 game. It's fun to have something that "challenges" the player but, at the same time, kind of just gives you a breather from everything else.

What do you guys think?

my only truly fond Spidey game memories come from the ps2 SM2. The pizza missions and other side activities were tons of fun since they allowed a lot of it to be light hearted. It's good that they got Insomniac to helm the project because that means we're almost guaranteed to get lots of those fun little additions to contrast with the epic serious stuff

My first Spider-Man game was Enter Electro and the boss battle against the Lizard as a kid was absolutely terrifying. I managed to grab the win after going in with no fear and days of trying.
