Spider-Man (PS4) - Part 1

It'd be cool to trip there. I hope this game can take us to a few places besides New York.
By New York you mean Manhattan and the few surrounding islands? Or more?

NY has been done to death but I get why its here. i hope there are other locales as well, like smaller environments that Spidey is taken to over the course of the game

This game also needs to have fast travel. Swinging around the city can be fun but if its large, that can get annoying constantly having to go from one end to another for objectives and missions

As much as they can give us. It was nice, for example, taking a ride to Ellies Island in Spider-Man 2, then climb to the top of the Statue. Ultimate Spider-Man gave us Queens and it was a little different from the rest of Manhattan.

Different environments are totally welcome for the story mode. The Negative Zone is one of them. Maybe we can be taken underwater like in the PS1 game. Stuff like that. Just give us some variety so tall buildings aren't the only thing we see in the game.

The thing is I can't think of a single Spider-Man NYC open-world map that made me say "they did it right". SM2 limited by PS2, SM3 was good but still not there yet, TASM1 was plain as heck, TASM2 was plain as heck but at least bigger than TASM1 (a bit more variety too).

The thing every SM NYC world lacks is detail, maybe they nailed this one. I'd love to see a SM NYC with the attention to detail that R* put into their Liberty City map. An open world map is nice and all but if it's not detailed enough it's actually damaging to the experience.

If Insomniac didnt see untapped potential with a new york sandbox they wouldn't bother making that. There's a chance here to really bring new york to life in a unique way. And personally, I have never really felt the true character of new york in any videogame yet so simply getting that right will already make it new & fresh, for me at least

I appreciate seeing more environments than mostly the outline of Manhattan peninsula, that is a notable weakness in Web of Shadows.

I think they will bring New York to life for sure. In the pro footage we can see pedestrians getting out of cars. Plus how busy the streets look compared to previous Spider-Man games. Also when the camera pans up to Spider-Man you can see things like a newspaper and coffee cup on a table with a chair on a fire escape on the side of the building.

There's also red graffiti on the roads and that is actually a thing in big cities that utility workers spray on the ground to help them keep track of things.

You can see it better in the trailer but here's a shot I found that shows it around the manhole.

Insomniac are putting so much detail into this game!

I mentioned how busy the streets look, well here's a comparison to the previous Spider-Man games.

^You forgot the best street, the one from Ultimate Spider-Man.

Oops! I'll edit that one in! Thanks for the reminder!
Thanks.
It's weird to find the streets of [PROTOTYPE] livelier than they are in any Spider-Man game from the same publisher, both before and after the viral outbreak.

well its not weird as its different devs. Unlike games published by Rockstar Games, Activision games arent all made using the same basic formula

So I really don't want to get any hopes up but....the guys who make the youtube show THWIP for Marvel were at Insomniac Games very recently.

This is the director of the show:

Then people started to speculate and he responded with:

When he got home from presumably his trip to Insomniac Game HQ:

And finally he just now tweeted this in response to someone asking if Spider-Man PS4 fans should be excited for the coming THWIP show.

Honestly I'd be content with screenshots at this point. Again grain of salt, this could lead to absolutely nothing.

It could, but it gives us hope nonetheless!

This is probably my most hyped Spider-Man anything in a while. :funny:

E3 is so close now that I don't expect them to waste the full gameplay reveal on some youtube show. I'm thinking possible title reveal and some vague plot details

Oh yeah they aren't showing gameplay, but they could show the title and some screenshots and maybe some more info about the game's story.

Btw, he's still teasing the heck outta this new show:

I really hope this doesn't backfire. People are already upset about the lack of info and we've waited so long without any news that I'm afraid what the community might do if it's a massive disappointment.

It can't possibly be gameplay, but he's teasing it like it is. I feel like I should know better, but even I'm starting to wonder about possiblity of gameplay

Don't, trust me. That'll only lead to disappointment. Just at the very least expect a interview like First Avenger said.

Well, on the bright side E3 is in like another month or so. That 1 minute of footage from last year has surprisingly still been enough to tide me over, but I really wanna find out more about this game soon.

So...they ended up showing Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite and gave it a release date.

And then the THWIP show came out and nothing for Spider-Man PS4.

I hope this game lets us be Peter and Spidey seamlessly, maybe even allowing us to run into an alley to change into the suit.

It's kinda nice knowing little about it because it offers a lot of speculation.

Perhaps they were teasing for future shows and not necessarily the next one at the time.

This is on Gamestop's webpage for the game:

Peter Parker didn't ask to be a hero. When he was bitten by that radioactive spider long ago, he didn't even know what to do once he graduated High School. But fate doesn't always ask you what you want; you just have to play the cards it deals you.
Growing up, you're forced to balance your complicated personal life with your identity as Spider-Man, New York City's most famous superhero. All of the city's residents look to you to protect them, your boss expects you to be on time, and you need to hide your identity from everyone, even your friends. No one said being a hero was easy.

A Brand New Story: Insomniac Games and Marvel teamed up to create a new Spider-Man story, one you won't find in the comics or movies.
An Experienced Crimefighter: Unlike the films and comics, Peter isn't an awkward kid anymore. He's had time to develop new abilities to fight crime.
Explore New York: An open world design lets you swing freely through the skyscrapers and investigate dark alleys. The Big Apple is full of mysteries, why not use your acrobatic abilities to see them all?

Brought to you by Insomniac Games, the studio who created Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance, Spider-Man brings one of Marvel's most famous heroes to life in the world's most iconic city. Designed exclusively for the PS4, Insomniac Games modified the engine they used in Sunset Overdrive to create a game with stunning visuals and creative combat. Will your new abilities be enough to save the world? With great power comes great responsibility. Use your gifts wisely.
Spider-Man for PS4 is now available for pre-order. A release date for Spiderman has not yet been announced.

Talking about balancing your personal life sounds to me like there will be Peter Parker segments in the game. The interview at last year's E3, Bryan Inithar and Bill Rosemann talked about how Peter Parker was just as important as Spider-Man.
