Spider-Man (PS4) - Part 1

Wasn't there supposed to be another show with live demos? Or is that today?
I think there was supposed to be shown more earlier today, not a day after.

Shuhei Yoshida (President of Sony's Worldwide Studios for Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc.) says he has played the demo multiple times and says each time he takes a different route, the demo may have looked scripted but it's completely playable and that even in the building you can take a different path. He says we'll be surprised how open and flexible the system in the game is.
That's excellent, it's one of my hopes for the game, and I'm happy to heart it's fulfilled.

Also Bryan Inithar has addressed the quick time events.
Finally, Intihar addressed the quick-time events shown in Sony’s conference and emphasized that they’re meant to punctuate blockbuster moments rather than define whole sections of the game. “The superhero experience isn’t fully there unless you have those big set pieces that only someone like Spider-Man can survive,” Intihar says. “For us, that can’t be the game, but you have a sense of spectacle. Sometimes we are going to do things that even break the core of the traversal or the combat. It’s not something we rely on, but it’s something we’re going to use to our advantage.”

That's excellent, the sooner a new Spider-Man game takes the top spot for me the better, I really want this to be the one.

Man, this game looks awesome! I'm looking forward to this much more rather than I'm looking forward to Spider-Man: Homecoming.

I feel the same.

Homecoming is under a month away and yet, I don't feel the same level of excitement and anticipation for that as I do for this game which is still a year away.

Watching the gameplay the other day, and reading the dev comments about the story, themes, and settings, rekindled the Spidey fan in me. It reminded of when I was a teenager and Spidey was my fav.

Sadly, I don't get that feeling from anything Homecoming related. I was initially when Tom Holland was cast, but every subsequent thing that has come out about that movie has only served to dampen my enthusiasm.

Hopefully, next month, I will be proven wrong, and the Spidey fan in me will smile again.

they made it clear that there's no link between the movie home coming and this game which is a good thing. since most of time when a marvel game went there disaster fallowed.

[BLACKOUT]oh and your question about anthem was answered it's up in it's thread in video from the game director to Geoff K.[/BLACKOUT]

In the wake of Spider-Man‘s full gameplay reveal during Sony’s E3 2017 press conference, new details regarding the hero’s logo and web swinging have surfaced from developer Insomniac Games.

One of the game’s most apparent liberties with the popular character is found in the emblem on the hero’s chest, which is white instead of the comic’s classic black. Disgruntled fans were quick to chime in about this on Twitter, but the developer teased that it had a good reason for the change.
It’s explained in the game and has a purpose
— Insomniac Games (@insomniacgames) June 13, 2017
Insomniac also used Twitter to discuss the upcoming game’s new web-swinging design. Every video game installment of Spider-Man has implemented web swinging slightly different, with some working better than others. Insomniac has confirmed that the next game’s web swinging with be entirely physics-based and reliant on attachments to buildings (or some other sturdy object). This will give players more manipulation of the character’s reaction, momentum, and trajectory, unlike some of the pre-animated methods of swinging found in previous games.
And in case you’re wondering – swinging is all physics based and the webs attach to buildings

One final reveal worthy of note was not elaborated on by Insomniac, but it can be checked out at the very end of the gameplay demo. After Spider-Man’s fight with the helicopter, a teen is recording the aftermath on his phone. As his friend begins to leave, he calls the first teen- a young African-American male- Miles. This is assuredly meant to be Miles Morales, a teenager that takes on the Spider-Man identity after Peter Parker. Morales isn’t the Spider-Man that saved the day in the demo, but he could play some part in the game’s story.
Spider-Man is launching sometime in 2018, exclusive to the PlayStation 4.

yeah, I'm glad this game isn't a movie tie-in.

oh, and thanks for the heads up about the Anthem bit. I'll check out the video later.

This is me 100% at the moment.

Pretty much confirms Peter Parker gameplay. Also QTE are relegated to set-pieces only.
“It’s certain scenarios we’ve put him in, certain abilities he’ll do during combat to prevent people from dying,” Intihar said. “So whether it’s about deciding where stuff gets placed or how it unfolds, Spider-Man’s not gonna be killing people. That’s not the game we want to make.”
This feels awkward coming as a quote from someone whose surname is 'SUICIDE'.

I really wanted to throw criminals off of roofs, or swing them high and toss them midair, like the Treyarch open world games allowed us to do.

This is a great amount of new information, a few questions have been answered here! Such as the no killing part. Thanks for sharing!

You could also pile-drive thugs from the Empire State Building in Spider-Man 2 so yeah, it was goofy then (fun though) and it just wouldn't look right with such a realistic look to this game. I think what they've done is a very clever way of dealing with that issue. Think about it, either the thug falls and you feel like a murder as Spider-Man or Spider-man catches them and places back on the roof. Even if you can get over the murdering part it still means it's the end of the fight and the fighting stops. If he auto webs them back on the roof then you can finish them off properly. Midair combat is most likely still in since we saw Spidey launch that Demon into the air and stick him to the wall.

It's a very good-looking game. Loook forward to learning what the gameplay/controls will be like as that is my main concern for a Spidey game.

Glad to hear about the QTE used only for the bigger action set pieces. And I really like how they're using a very physics based web swinging system with webs attaching to structures.

I'm willing to bet the swing system will be similar to that of SM2 in that it will require effort on the part of the player to master it. At least I hope so. It's rewarding to feel like you've earned a particular skill.

One thing I noticed during the gameplay demo was at one point while fighting a thug in the air Spidey webs him to the wall. The experience bar in the top right of the screen recorded points for that and called it 'decorator.' I wonder if we'll be able to web enemies to other structures besides walls and even cooler if we can hang them from light poles.

schedule on the description says Spider-man at 4:20 pm, and in an earlier interview Bryan Intihar said that we would see extended gameplay so I figured this is it.

I guess we'll wait and see. Thanks for the response.

The numbers are just the combo he's building up, however the bar filling up is interesting as it does not deplete when he activates a finisher as I thought it would. So I wonder what it's for? Any guesses?

Streets being almost free of pedestrians a lot of times in those old games stopped some of the fun of scaring them myself by the soon to disappear thugs.
Now I imagine the falling bodies of people thrown off of roofs, reaction of pedestrians, and how the fallen bodies won't disappear in this new game.

So the IGN demo was just a Q&A over the press conference demo. However, the extended demo was a behind-closed-doors scenario for the press. It was a live demo where he saved one extra Fisk worker before the helicopter scene.

Here is Kinda Funny talking about it:

I have a theory about the white spider emblem. Mr Negative can use his powers to invert the colours of an object into their photo negative state. Once he even 'charged' Spider-man with negative energy to turn him evil. I think we might see this in the game. Maybe Mr Negative will charge Spider-man and invert the colours of his costume, making the emblem turn dark. This might even be what's about to happen when the demo ends. Maybe there will be some kind of system in the game that allows Spidey to switch between good and bad.

Gotta say, I'm disappointed with the swinging we saw in the demo. All I've wanted since SM2 is another game with 2 handed swinging, where you can shoot a second line while still hanging onto the first line. This feature has never returned since SM2.

isn't anyone else bothered by the web zip animations? I'm not against the inclusion of a web zip move and I know that in a game like this some creative liberties will break real world physics, but it has to at least look somewhat believable. It just looks dumb when Spidey yanks on a web and that just rockets him upwards. Sure it's handy in getting you precisely where you aim but couldn't they do something that didn't break the immersion so hard? like for example in the stealth section (since they already have that agility system) couldn't there be an emphasis on moving acrobatically instead of constant web zips which looks boring anyway? I would've preferred it that way. I hope there's still a choice to do it like that instead of transparently breaking laws of physics. But even so, it would feel lame to stubbornly not use the web zip especially when it's the fastest choice

^Yeah, the web zip animation bothers me as well. It bothered me in the last 2 Beenox games, and I knew it was going to look the same in this game since the first trailer.
