Playstation Spider-Man (PS4) - Part 3

Yeah I noticed you can swap them once you acquired a costume. Though I'm really saving the base/challenge tokens right now, and I still have to unlock ten costumes, 8 of those are still question marked. Don't know if I would get the other 2 gadgets, I really don't wanna redo the other bases I've already been to.

Anyway, I'm already at 64% and I hate the stealth Taskmaster challenge, I think thats one side quest I would probably skip. I still haven't encountered 3/6 of the Sinister Six.

Well, this was the most disappointing gaming experience i've had in a long time, certainly in the PS4 era. Sigh, where to begin...

1) Gameplay, combat, challenge

The most important part of gaming for me is challenging and thought provoking gameplay. Cutscenes and a decent storyline are somewhat important but if that was enough, i can simply watch a play-through on Youtube and be done with it. This game offers absolutely no challenge. I played on the Spectacular Spider-Man difficulty and i didn't die once in the last third of the game including all Sinister Six fights. The boss fights are simply put, atrocious. In a world with God of War, Bloodborne, etc...this just won't cut it. Doc Ock is the final boss and yet he goes down approximately in the same time that it would take to stop a robbery or beat some random thugs. There's neither quality nor quantity. We have 5-6 bosses altogether and they decide to couple them? What a terrible idea. What good are 30 gadgets when every boss fight is circle, R1, triangle? I understand that the game caters to casual gamers but why add difficulty levels then? Compare the difficulty levels to God of War. You don't have to play ''Give me God of War'' but those who want a challenge can have a blast.

2) Side Missions, Side Quests

Chasing pigeons, what a glorious idea! Random students going rogue? 50 Demon thugs crimes...boring? How about 50 more Sable crimes? Tedious? How about 50 more prison thugs crimes? We have a short storyline, no boss battle worth a damn, no interesting side quests, so how do we prolong the game? How about doing the same thing over and over 50 times? Brilliant!

3) Miles and MJ gameplay

I will preface to say that i don't care and never will for Miles, Damien-Batman, She-Hulk, Terry McGinnis and every single ''take over the mantle'' or change race/gender of the same character. If i'm a tennis fan and i love Rafael Nadal, i don't want to see Rafaela Nadal, or Rafa Nadalesku, i'd prefer an original like Serena, or Kim Clijsters or Stan Wawrinka.

It's largely a criticism of the comics industry lack of originality and need to continue endlessly but the game doesn't shy away from it. I would not fault the game for the inclusion of Miles if they didn't make him a big part of the story including him becoming Spider-Man at the end. A cameo? Sure. But his intrusion of the story by having erm...crouch with him several times was immersion breaking. Same thing with reckless reporter MJ. Why stop there? Why not play with Aunt May while Pete is fighting Doc Ock and assist him by hitting Ock with her umbrella?

Changing protagonists mid-game can be great, the Last of Us a great example, but the change served the story. Here, you can completely skip those stealth missions and the story would go on the same.

4) The story

The sympathetic father figure turned villain Doc Ock was the best part of the game and even that was taken from Spider-Man 2. Out of all the possible stories to create, they couldn't write something more original or daring? The Sinister Six were thrown in so recklessly, and misused so badly, they seemed to be a part of a different game. It seems like they realized mid game they have no boss fights so they decided to add that just so Spidey has someone to fight. Ock goes full Dany in a 20 minutes, from wanting to create something good to breaking villains from jail and poisoning thousands of people.

Spider-Man is my favorite fictional character but this game didn't satisfy me on any level. I really wish it did.

I agree with all your points but I guess the overall experience and presentation really worked for me, so I love the game. I sort of fell in love with the game with that opening scene in Peter's apartment :hehe:

Best hint on the Taskmaster things is to just use your stealth takedown where you pounce on their head. It's faster and less hassle.

I think whats difficult about the stealth missions is the time limit and I just hate starting over and doing half of the same things again and again.

The costumes look great, I just unlocked Iron Spider. The only ones that I don't really like are Spider Punk, the Wrestler and I guess the home made suit, but the rest looks slick and they look better in cutscenes.

I also love the references for the ips that Marvel banished to TV. I thought the references were done after I photographed the landmarks on the map and I found all the bagpacks. But I came acrossed to this statue and it was Lockjaw! I thought it was so cool that I took a photo of it and it turned out to be a secret photo thing. I love that.

I think stealth isn't really stealth in those Taskmaster Missions. Don't take your time to sneak up on them. You basically need to web strike those punks as fast as you can, unnoticed of course.

The hard part is 2 to 3 enemies are near each other and when one of them spots me, it's game over right away. Its quite annoying as I already ran out of base/challenge tokens and I still have 6 unacquired costumes. Hopefully the locked side quests would give those tokens later in the game.

So far I've beaten 5 bosses - Kingpin, Shocker and Mr. Negative then Taskmaster and Tombstone in side missions. I'm enjoying the game but I wish there are more bosses in the main game as I've already 72% complete into the game and I only fought 3 bosses in the main game.

You just have to lead one away by webbing the wall or floor. Set up web trap at spots you know one will be walking by and just time it out. Once you come up with a sequence it become much easier. I found the combat ones a lot more difficult, I'm never sure how to get a higher score. The one in central park by the boulder was a pain in the ass for me.

So awesome of them to give more DLC for free!! Looks like I'll be playing this tonight! (Going to see Far From Home tomorrow)

I just spammed gadgets and wed-grenaded the crap out of everyone. Apparently, it's all about speed. The one in the plaza was the one that kept me angry. If you use the anti-grav bombs and trip-mine combo you are forced to use with Screwball, you rack up some awesome points. recommend using web grenade and following it with the concussion blast to stick them to the walls. I did that, and gold every time. Hope that helps!

I'd love to get the TASM suits, not gonna get my hopes up though. Love that they've added the Far From Home suits, this is a wonderful surprise, haven't done a new game plus playthrough yet, might start one up.

Happy to see them adding the newest MCU Spidey suits.

I just got my PS4 pro a couple weeks ago and of course I got this as my first game. Got the DLC on sale too.

Obviously I love it, it's an amazing game. But truthfully, may now be one of the defining Spidey experiences. I love the movies, the cartoons, the comics. But swinging around in this game, the individual moments. Sheesh. This is the closest I think I've ever felt to living the life of a webhead.

Love it. LOVE it.

(PS the DLC campaign is even better than the main campaign. Just sayin)

That inevitable sequel... my suggestions:
- Co-op. Omg. Peter/Miles, maybe throw some Eddie in there?! :O
- fall damage. but just as an option. maybe just on the hardest difficulty, if you fall from more than 30 stories the damage starts to ramp up and after 60+ stories you reach terminal velocity and you'll die if you hit the ground.
- reflections on windows. they are there. but barely. they are next to non-existent. this is one of the few graphics changes I'd make.
- combat. man. its good, but its not great. I think less enemies overall, but more tactile, visceral fighting elements that make the combat more challenging than just MORE GUYS!!!
  • "combo dodges" for instance. an enemy throws a punch, you dodge. he follows up with another punch and you have to dodge that too.
  • enemies with focus bars. the longer they are around, the more chance they have to get you in a headlock
- finite webs. it'd be fun to run out of webs in mid swing-mid battle and maybe have to manually reload.
- less MJ/Miles type missions. they aren't bad. i like the detective/stealth elements but spidey can do them just the same. they aren't as fun when i'm just a random power-less human.

THIS IS MY ONLY GRIPE ABOUT THE GAME. When one of these would come up, my kids and I would just groan!

My other suggestion...Black costume. THE black costume. Like...first thing.

It will really come down to whether they listen to the fans or not. It seems to be a pretty vocal majority of people who dislike the MJ/Miles missions. And while Miles will inevitably be a playable character again, he won't be limited to powerless missions.

So will they do MJ again? I mean, if there's a legitimately fun reason to do MJ missions and its not just "oh gotta draw a female crowd" or "oh gotta make MJ a stronger character" then I could see a reason for it. The "control MJ to direct Spidey takedowns" was... moderately fun but still not as fun as doing it myself. So I just dont' see a reason for it.

Love the new free costumes!

I just beat Electro, maxed out my level, got all the skills and I'm at 88% complete now.

I put 74 hours into this game last year and got 100%, and did all the dlc stuff and beat the game twice. I beat it once were I only did the main missions, and my second time I did ever thing. I think I may start a third time now has I still need to do a game+ and wanted to do that with the rami suit and with far from homing being out and being so awesome it has made me want to play this again.

I second a co-op for the next game

Let’s say peter is infected with venom and has run off.

Miles goes to search for peter.

Problem is who do you give focus to? People might be annoyed you can’t play miles till you finish the game

I think they'll do it like in Ultimate Spider-Man, where in some sections you switch to Venom (Spider Miles in the next game), but once the game is finished, you can switch back and forth between them.

I don't see co-op happening, though.
