Star Trek Beyond - Part 2

I say watch all of them and form your own opinion. I used to hate TMP but as time goes on I start to see the merits of the film. The character moments are good. Decker and Illia's arc is duplicated to perfection with Riker and Troi.

Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock and Voyage Home are almost a trilogy by themselves.
Final Frontier....my choice as worst Star Trek film
Undiscovered Country...my choice as best

wasn't really a fan of TNG but the movies try to make Picard into an action hero.

So, Netflix is going to be getting rid of the Trek films from streaming in July and I'm thinking of binging the films. Are they worth it? Full disclosure, I'm a casual sci fi guy who never watched the tv shows but loves the Abrams films and really really looking forward to Beyond.

You could watch all and form your own opinion as others said.

However, my favorite Star Trek films, and perhaps the best ones are:
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (The best of the whole series, and part 1 of the Genesis Project arc)

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (Part 2 of the Genesis Project arc)

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (Part 3 of the Genesis Project arc)

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (Swan song; final TOS crew film)

Star Trek - First Contact (The best TNG film, includes the Borg)

Star Trek (2009) (One of the best reboots, and one of the best Trek films)

The Final Frontier is hot garbage but damn, it does have one of the better scenes in all of Trek in it.

Watch these:

- II
- III
- IV
- VI
- Generations (lackluster but you get to witness Picard and Kirk in the same film)
- First Contact
- Nemesis (it's s*** but just to see the final TNG film)

I'd say II, IV, VI, and First Contact all compete for best film of the entire franchise.

I like Star Trek: Generations, especially the scenes with Picard and Kirk.

Star Trek: Insurrection is too short and feels just like a two-part TV episode.

Also, Star Trek: The Motion Picture is sometimes nicknamed Star Trek: The Slow Motion Picture, and for good reason.

Part V was a hardcore vanity project for Shatner. Most vanity projects failed but when they fail, it's a facinating crash.

Had not seen that... the stupidity of these licensing terms. Let's have all the Trek movies taken off streaming right before we premiere a new Trek movie! :whatever:

I really don't get the studio mindsets sometimes.

I remember that happening with "24". All 8 seasons were on netflix for years until right before 24: Live Another Day came out. Then they were gone.

The logic behind this... I can only guess what studios and license owners are thinking when they remove the old content instead of promoting it.

I like the new trailer. Looks to be a fun movie.

As far as Start Trek V. I really like the Camping moments between spock, kirk, and the doc.

Please, let this be an interesting film, with interesting characters and story and cerebral stuff, just wrapped up in an action movie attire.

Man, I'm really pulling for this movie. I hope this is a sequel that can help turn things around this summer and actually be a great movie. The footage looks excellent, and I do really like the story and what I heard about Elba's villain who finally, is his own thing.

What I like about it is at least in story, it feels more like a ST storyline. Not a grim, "You're a murderer and we're going on a rogue revenge mission to chase you across the galaxy with questionable weapons on board," with dark cinematography. It came off more as shades of truther ideas than Trek allegory for a post 9/11 world.

As much as I love the first film and what it brought, I feel there came a downside in its lasting vision where it's generated more or less another sci fi action type movie that isn't that unique for what Trek means.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys. So consensus seems to be to skip V. Although, I have to ask: Is V bad in a "fun to make fun of" kind of way or bad in a "I can't believe I'm wasting an hour and a half of my life on this" kind of way?

Latest trailer was great, I really hope this surprises and turns out being one of the better movies of the summer, have really enjoyed the re-boot franchise so far.

It's a little bit of both

I'd definitely put Insurrection on the must skip list, it feels like a canned episode script that they stretched out to feature length, boring and doesn't really add anything to the franchise.
