Star Trek Beyond - Part 4

The Motion Picture probably has the most Star Trek plot. It's brilliant and more what I want to see out of current Trek, but Christ it's boring. It really traumatized the entire franchise away from leaning more cerebral. Not that 2, 4, and 6 aren't great, but we've never seen an ST film more in line with the OS.

No Star Trek characters post-Next Generation has made any impact on general audiences. Probably the reason they’re not making a Discovery big screen movie, or anything from the current TV world.

I mean...they've never made ST movies from anything that was currently making new episodes on TV lol.

Next Gen went off the air and had a movie a couple months later so basically back-to-back. The point was it got a movie in the first place because of its mainstream popularity.

We'll see if this finally gets off the ground. I wonder how negotiations with the cast will go.

Shrewd move by Paramount. Let's see if it pays off for them. None of the actors had signed or secured deals when they made that announcement. And there's no budget or green light for ST4.

The hope is to begin filming in the fall in order to make the Dec. 22, 2023, theatrical release. The script is still being worked on, according to sources, and there is no green light or budget in place. In fact, the budget will now likely have to account for talent deals that may be supersized. Industry insiders say that Paramount let go of negotiating leverage in order to have a key chess piece as it courts Wall Street investors.

That's a really odd move, especially since at least two of the stars may have some big scheduling conflicts. Namely Zoe Saldana with the Avatar/GOTG sequels and Karl Urban with The Boys.
Can’t do it without them!

Well Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will probably already be done with major photography by the time this gets underway, if and when.

The Boys they could probably work around once the deals are in place.

But basically, based on that story by Hollywood Reporter, Paramount put themselves in a bad position in terms of negotiations with this announcement. Their reps are likely going to try and negotiate some bigger paydays now since Paramount's whole announcement hinges on "we're bringing back the entire movie cast."

…so they just straight up lied about the cast returning? That can end up biting them in the ass big time. Hope Paramount is prepared for that.

Probably, maybe, possibly, should have reached out to them first.

Just maybe, Paramount.

Not surprised this was a false start. This has been happening since like 2017. They swear the movie is coming out and/or filming soon.

As much as I love the cast, probably best to just create a brand new crew and characters, and keep the cost down. I don't see ST4 grossing that much. Especially almost 6 years after STB

Seems they're taking a gamble on this. The budget for this will go up a lot. I still don't think that price is worth what the market research indicates that this franchise is still the money maker and audiences are asking for another one. I guess we've reached the point where we can get nostalgic about the original 09 film, so maybe it has that going for it. Unfortunately, the window seems passed.

I am not feeling sorry for them, just thought it’s a strange tactic

I agree it's a very strange tactic, and not one I'm sure will pay off, but we shall see. It seems like the Chris Pine meets Hemsworth thing from several years ago that didn't work either.

It’s essentially a big screen version of the original episode The Changeling.

I always felt that was Hemsworth’s fault.
He didn’t have to demand to be paid top dollar.
Trek 2009 was Hemsworth’s first big break in the states. He could have cut them a break.
