Star Trek Beyond - Part 4

Let Dan Tratchenberg direct it. The guy has already worked with the Bad Robot Company company before, and he’s had great success recently with the reception of PREY. Strike while the iron is hot. And you can still have Matt Shakman on as a producer or something to guide him a little on how the film should be.

Also, it would be great publicity to have him on as Director, instead of who left. And I really like what Matt Shakman did with WandaVision.

Honestly Star Trek is better as a tv series anyway. It was never meant to be a heavy special effects action movie which is what they’ve been trying to make it. The best Star Trek material are ones that are more exploratory and dialogue driven. That doesn’t lend well to a big screen theatrical release.

You can make a great ST movie that's faithful to the show that isn't action driven. I'd want to see Alex Garland write it at least.

Won't matter what kind of film they make the toxic gatekeepers will attack it no matter what.

I just think there’s been such a huge gap between this one and the last one, maybe it’s too big? Just maybe it’s time to say it’s had it’s time and then move on to a next gen reboot or something post Picard

Not gonna happen. They want to make it action heavy for the big screen to sell tickets.

Making a Star Trek movie in today's day and age is super difficult. You can't really compete with the action of a Star Wars or MCU movie, unless you are willing to spend comparable money on it, but the Star Trek franchise isn't as big as those franchises so is that a good investment?

I wonder if they are going to consider taking a page out of the MCU and do a time travel/multiverse crossover with the Kelvin Timeline cast and the cast of one of the Paramount Plus shows like Picard (that show's first season deals with the destruction of Romulus, which created the Kelvin Timeline) or Discovery/New Worlds.

Why not just get Justin Lin back he did a really good job with Beyond.

It’s been 6 years since Beyond. What a bummer.

I barely remember that movie except thinking “Oh they aren’t just using Beastie Boys for the trailer”

I really wanted to see what Noah Hawley would come up with. His concept of a smaller movie with a focus on exploration rather than action with an all-new crew was actually intriguing.

Like Star Trek!

It was basically
a Galactic Pandemic
so you can see why Paramount didn’t want to go ahead with the film!!

They should've done it anyway. It's now been 6 years since Beyond, and I doubt a film could be ready by 2024. What does Paramount have to lose, especially if the film had a lower budget? The longer they wait to put something in theaters the smaller the potential audience will be, especially if they still insist on trying to replicate Star Wars or other blockbusters.

It's weird. I kind of wish JJ Abrams had been the one to direct that Beyond script cause I feel it would've made for a better more exciting overall film.

Into Darkness sucks. But because of the script, not the direction.

Star Trek 09 is still the biggest Star Trek in terms of scope and box office (even with inflation). What a banging start that just got worse with the other two unfortunately. I still hold out hope that they have one left that can capture the magic of it.

There's some good stuff in Beyond but JJ is so good at making everything exciting. I know he is not a perfect director, but there's a constant energy driving those first two Trek movies that I find them really fun to watch.

Yeah, ST'09 doesn't get enough respect these days. Excellent adventure film and the breath of fresh air the franchise really needed.

Make it a hate plague like Transformers G1 animated, and then the only cure is a knowledge antidote they spread across the universe using Stan Bush's "The Touch."

Shakman made the right move. Hell, Fantastic Four could be out already before this thing is even off the ground so there's still a chance he could direct it. :o

He did make the right call. Star Trek is going anywhere right now. They don't have any of the actors locked in, and Paramount is incredibly wishy-washy about this film. Look how many directors they've gone through at this point:

Quentin Tarantino
SJ Clarkson
Noah Hawley
Matt Shakman

If you are a promising, up-and-coming director, I see very little upside to doing a Star Trek theatrical movie right now. If you want something a little safer, MCU is a better bet.

Paramount announced this movie for a second time, saying the whole movie cast was coming back WHEN NONE OF THEM WERE SIGNED TO RETURN!

Just like right before Star Trek Beyond came out, they announced a fourth movie starring Pine and Hemsworth in a time travel plot. That fell through as well and none of the main actors wanted to take a paycut. They got cold feet after Star Trek Beyond under-performed, and that's been the story of this franchise for the last several years.

Never say never. I think it's inevitable another movie will happen at some point. But Paramount still can't get their act together when it comes to Star Trek.
