No love for ST: FC? I love ST: FC. It's the movie that got me into Trek.

I find opinions are divided on the Borg.

I've never seen it, though I've been meaning to. I just never got into TNG. And I think that, over the years, my disdain for all things TNG-related has grown substantially due to the arrogance of a lot of TNG fans I've encountered. It's like so many of them can't help but talk down to you if you tell them you prefer the original cast and series. So many of them will feel a need to tell you how TNG is so much smarter and is intended to make audiences think and how most audiences simply don't want to do that; they just want to be entertained. And it's kinda like, "No, f*** you, the reason I don't care for TNG has nothing to do with it being too 'smart' for me and everything to do with the fact that I've never found any of the characters remotely interesting."

Now, to clarify, I'm not saying you or any other TNG fans here are like this; I'm talking about ones I've encountered in real life. They've really turned me off of the series. I feel like, if you want people to get interested in something you're into, the worst thing you can do is try to make them feel stupid for not liking it.

I liked the new trailer and that limited edition poster is sweet too. Posting again because why not.

Lin got Paramount to drop the legal charges against the fans that made the fan film Axanar:

perhaps the most notable bit of news to come out of this was Abrams’ announcement about the controversial Star Trek fan film Axanar. Paramount had been aiming to take legal action against the production, which the studio had argued was a professional production with its (relatively) big budget. But Abrams said that Lin went to Paramount and asked them to drop any potential legal action because he felt allowing fan films to go on is in the best spirit of Star Trek. The fans, after all, are the ones who saved Star Trek all those years ago with their letter-writing campaign in the ’60s.

O.K, now where are the fans who criticized the choice of Justin Lin as he was the director of Fast and Furious movies ?

Trailer 2 gave Me some confidence back. Im glad they seem to want to do something different with these films now instead of recycling ideas. The last film felt luke such a clone of khan I couldnt really get into it.

I really like FC (it tends to alternate the #5 spot with TSFS for me quite a bit). My big issues with it are, the concept of the Borg Queen kind of takes away what made them truly scary to begin with (although Alice Krige's performance is really good), and Picard's somewhat OOC characterization (which to be fair, OOC characterizations were a recurring problem in the TNG films).

But it's still a really good flick and most of the effects have held up VERY well even 20+ years later.

Being an awesome human being doesn't make you a great director. :yay:

No, being a good director makes you a good director. ;)

I've seen his other films. From a technical standpoint, he's definitely a good director imo.

They did mention that it is another ship, the USS Franklin. But it definitely looks to be the same type as the NX Enterprise.

OK cool. Glad i'm not the only one who thinks it resembles that version of the Enterprise.

You're being too hard on the film.
This film? I am talking about Lin's other work. Though he did make Fast Five, which is the only movie of that series I consider good. Really good in fact, as I quite like it.

I don't know. I've seen quite a few people on Twitter that were on Paramount's side with that whole thing.

Directing the paintball episode of community shows you might have some chops. See also, the Russo Brothers.

A whole career of decent to good films does as well.

Tv spot just aired during Preacher. Was the new trailer just cut down.

Im not saying this will be great...but I think everyone was being too hard on this film from the first trailer

Well we had a single mediocre teaser followed by an extended period of silence and no official posters and we are 2 months from release. That's usually all it takes to make people online think a film is a mess and the studio is trying to hide it. The old adage, "No news is good news" doesn't seem to register in fan forums. On fan forums the adage is, "No news and no marketing means the sky is falling". I fall into that mindset at times and did start to have my worries about the film, but this trailer has reassured me.

Again I'm not saying it'll be good, but Im basing what I said on the trailer reaction rather than afterward.
"OMGerd! DId you see the bike jump. This will just be Fast and Furious in space"
"Holy...theyre using pop music they're ripping of Guardians of the Galaxy. THis is gonna suck"
"This Star Trek is gonna suck. IT looks like it's all action. Merg..."

The prologned period of silence was way more concerning to me than the trailer

I think the prolonged silence was merely a way to retool the marketing strategy. New trailer looks great. Really looking forward to chapter three in one of the most interesting and fun franchises of the last years.
