Looks fantastic and I liked the first trailer.

Much better trailer, but I still don't know whether this will be a better STAR TREK film than Abrams' were or not... :/

Nonetheless, I loved Enterprise warping space and Elba sounds like a real Star Trek alien. :woot:

That poster (for Star Trek The motion picture) is a classic.

And furthermore, the film is a classic too, to me it's still the best one in the series and one of the best sci-fi films ever.
Some shots in the Beyond trailer so similar to ST TMP, like the docked Enterprise. I hope it's not just another STID "you know this from a previous ST films" kind of stuff...

I did love that shot of Kirk, McCoy, and Spock looking at the Enterprise. Nice to see an emphasis on those three, rather than just Kirk and Spock.

Yea the Abrams movies really downplayed Bones' status as one of the main trio and made it all about Kirk/Spock (and bumping up Uhura).

I rewatched TMP the other night and, still don't care much for it. I get what they were TRYING to do, and there are some potentially interesting ideas. But it just don't think that they executed it well. Also the "looking at the Enterprise shot" was cool, but it goes for WAY too long. Actually, I think that ST 09 got the same point across (when Kirk sees the finished Enterprise for the first time), but more quickly, which I appreciated

Never been a fan of TMP. It's the only Trek film (with the original cast) that I can't sit through in one setting. Everybody craps on The Final Frontier, but at least that movie was boring as sh**.

Anyway, I like the new Beyond trailer; vast improvement on the first one. Not crazy about Elba's villain look though... Like someone said, it looks like some cheesy monster from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Still, the film looks solid enough. Hope it's better than STID, at least.

You mean watching the characters spend the majority of the movie dramatically staring at things isn't entertaining?:o

I'm all for slower-paced films, and some of my favorite movies ever are that way. BUT, if you're going to go do it that way, what's happening onscreen has to be interesting and still hold your attention. And with that movie, it often wasn't for me. There's not interesting conversations going on even, they're just standing there like planks of wood staring at things, and it goes on for SO FREAKING LONG!! It's just gets tedious and boring after awhile.

Other ST films have had slower paced moments, but they've executed them better imo.

I loved this trailer. Much better than the first one.

It's Star Trek: The Slow Motion Picture.

At least the aliens are being done with practical makeup. Idris Elba looks unrecognizable.

Sofia Boutella as well. Well except when she's spin-kicking people of course. ;)

my favorite shot in the trailer

I'm really curious to see what Idris Elba-aline's whole "anti-unity" vendetta is all about? Also that "swarm attack" looks awesome.

Now that is a nice trailer --I'll indeed look forward to seeing this.

Eh, the trailer is all right. I like that it seems the filmmakers have finally realized that Kirk is supposed to be a hero (although I was hoping that by the third film he'd already BE a hero). I like the color palette in the film and in the marketing. I think Chris Pine's performance looks like it could be the best of the series. Other than that though ... it just still feels like a generic action movie.

Unpopular opinion, but I'm actually quite fond of TPM and it ranks among my favorite Trek films. It's pacing is glacial and it ripped off an old episode for a plot, but it has a great story and atmosphere (and the director's cut fixed a lot of pacing issues). And compared to today, where apparently we need motorcycle and martial arts stunts to make a good Star Trek film, it's actually refreshing to see a Star Trek film in which the antagonist is a mysterious dust cloud whose identity isn't revealed until the final act. A studio today would never have the guts to approve that plot.
