Star Trek Beyond - Part 2

I think this will open a little better than Tarzan. Probably around $50 mil.

I honestly think Tarzan is doing well because of the Disney animated film. Many people I've spoken to who has seen the movie magically would bring up the cartoon. Like on a subconscious level. Also, for Skarsgard. I think people like Tarzan as a character, and I've underestimated his appeal.

I think most underestimated his appeal. You're probably right that the Disney film had something to do with it, too. But it's sad that we're talking about it like a "success story" this summer when it will still struggle to make back its budget. A sad summer indeed, lol.

I think both this and Bourne are going to have "disappointing" openings. The hype at this stage seems weirdly non-existent (I say as someone very much looking forward to both).

It does seem odd that the death of one of the film's stars and Old Sulu taking issue with making New Sulu gay are really the only things putting the word out that there even is a movie.

Well... those things, plus a Rihanna song. :o

Tarzan is a real tough property to adapt.
Even it was set in modern day, how do you modernize a guy in a loincloth?

You can't especially with the race stuff in a modern African country.

The video for the Rhianna song is pretty cool.

I am looking forward to this, but I agree with others that the hype is non-existent. The teaser trailer was rather disappointing and the studio didn't seem to promote the movie very well ever since then. At least ID had a prologue, released 5 months before release.

I also think that the shadow of Star Wars: TFA from December is still present, with people already actively talking about Rogue One. I know ST has an anniversary this year, but not a good time to sandwich a new film in between two Star Wars films, considering the latter franchise was recently resurrected and has a much larger fan base.

The Rihanna video is cool for the visuals but the song, no, not cool.

Anyway I can't wait for this one and I hope the sequel is already in the works!

They should retitle the movie STAR TREK: RIHANNED. :o

I don't think hype being non-existent will be a huge problem in this year. How many movies have been hyped up this year only to end up disappointing at the BO and in many cases critically as well? I am hoping this is one of the movies that surprises everyone with how good and successful it is.

Fingers Crossed!

I can only think of X-Men: Apocalypse. While BvS could have earned so much more, it still earned $300 million plus in North America. But movies like Warcraft, Resurgence, Out of the Shadows, Through the Looking Glass, Sorority Rising, Legend of Tarzan, Winter's War... the hype was not huge.

Legend of Tarzan is actually doing remarkably well. It seems to be heading for a sub 50% drop, which in this summer, is an amazing sign. It's still going to struggle to make money due to the budget, but it isn't a complete bomb. That movie also didn't seem to have a lot of hype before release, so really just need to wait and see how it does.

It is still way off from its budget and still got panned by critics.

The panning doesn't seem to have hurt Tarzan's box office so at this point it doesn't matter. I was shocked how full the theater was at my 2nd viewing yesterday.

Yeah it's the word of mouth. It really is just a good old adventure flick.

Yeah, based on the estimates, it had a 46% drop this weekend. With how this summer has been performing, is crazy good WOM. Big hit, no. But considering how much WB was looking at losing with this, this is great for them.

I think Trek will do well. $200 dom, probably not. But movies can still profit if they make less.

ID4: R is probably not going to hit 130-140 at this point. 200 for any movie would be a miracle.

Dunno why but I love this alien guy. :woot: The mask looks incredible, his voice, wow, and I just hope his agenda and personal story gonna be interesting, because Krall really has a pontential to be great ST villain. :ilv:

I do like the look of the new aliens so far. Specifically because it's practical makeup.
