Star Trek Beyond - Part 2

I'd love for them to bring back Jennifer Morrison as well.

It's just hard for me to see what the draw is here. I get that it's Chris Hemsworth/Thor, but I mean Hemsworth has proven to not be a draw outside of Marvel.

Now obviously the story can change my mind. Star Trek Beyond turned out a lot better than I expected. But I think Star Trek Beyond work because even though it's the original crew and the Enterprise, it felt like they were finally telling their own story.

It wasn't like George was this long tenured legendary captain and Kirk has to step out of his shadow. George was thrust into a terrible situation and did just about what any good officer of Starfleet should've done.

I mean outside of the human emotional factor, hasn't Kirk already surpassed his father? What is he so worried about now?

Now here's another theory I will put forth. Will the new movie effectively re-write the timeline and undo some of the first movie?

I mean that might sound crazy...but then look at X-Men: Days of Future Past.

that's not a crazy thought.reportly the scraped script that orci was going to direct was going to undo the reboot or alternate timeline.and the writers of
that are writing next film.trek 2009 came out 7 years ago.and it would be fall 2017 at earliest that hemsworth could start work on film.next 2 avengers film shoot from november through end of summer 2017.

Meh not really excited about Hemsworth being back as a couple star

this pretty much says a time travel story for next film is in the works.it
appears all the surviving principals are already signed for next film.

Before filming on Beyond started, the cast negotiated for higher pay. The studio agreed, on the condition that they add another sequel option.

i had hired pine and Quinto did that but this is first time it has been suggested all of them crew did.

But he's enlightened that he finally got to meet his father who he always wanted to meet.

Exactly. As someone who has never met his Dad, it would be an amazing experience to have. Which is where I think they're going with it. When you've never met your dad, that's one of your biggest questions of all. What was he like? How am I like him? How am I not like him? It surpasses all other questions because it's a very, very personal unknown. In a way it's exploring a very personal strange new world.

Maybe they are planning to do a "Yesterday's Enterpise" type of story in the next film. That could allow Kirk's Dad to be in the film.

My gut right now says this Hemsworth news is an indication that the fourth film will be the last film with this crew. I don't know... This series starts off with the idea it's an alternate timeline. Going back possibly to the moment it was all altered? Could be a way to end it all and say it's been reset again only back to the old timeline. I'm not for or against it. I happen to have enjoyed the previous films with this cast and am really looking forward to BEYOND. That said I am not sure a lot of people thought we were going to get six films out of this incarnation the way the original cast did from 1979-1996. I can see the fourth film being a way to wrap this timeline up. Again, not saying I am pro that but something about already going back to the first film feels very much like a bookend finale in some way. Trek would continue but in some other form. I mean we already have a streaming series coming out.

That's why I gave the thought that they are closing the loop with the fourth one and possibly resetting the timeline for good.

It would be interesting if this becomes a four-movie series that's basically a 9-hour version of the Yesterday's Enterprise story. That would be a gutsy call, and probably highly controversial.

I know the assumption is that this next film will be about time travel.
But George Kirk could have survived.

Some people think Tarkin survived the Death Star explosion too.

I definitely don't want this to be the last film with this cast. They got together a great set of young guys and half the fun (for me) would be seeing them turn into veterans with decades of history.

My first thought with Hemsworth is that Kirk will still have his daddy issues, which i thought would be over now based on this film's trailer.

Maybe they Godfather Part II it? That seems like much less of an actual event compared to them actually meeting but I'm in the party of not needing Hemsworth back.

Reseting the timeline would be a mistake imao. To me, it would be repeating the same mistakes as the rebooted James Bond films, which had a brilliant reboot in Casino Royale, but then seemed to be caught in never-ending "restarts", as every following film tries being an "origin" story in their oun right.

This new Star Trek universe is still trying to find it's footing, and for the most part, it has been successful.

they brought on the co-writers of failed script to write the next one? You would think Pegg and his co-writer would be hired.

bringing back hemsworth screams they hope to think advantage of popularty of MCU ignoring fact hemsworth is worth nothing to GA when he's not playing thor.

Yup. Desperation.

Star Trek is ohhhh so desperate.:o

On another note, the final teailer was sooo good.:hmr: Its only one minute and doesnt have any spoilers that I saw. But its got some cool stuff in it.

How bad is Star Trek: Final Frontier? Is it like the Terminator Genysis of the series? Watching these films for the first time, but unsure if that's one to skip or not based on what I'm reading online. What do you guys think of it?

ADDING:

Just finished Final Frontier. Happy I gave it a chance. I wouldn't place it as the worst Trek film actually, maybe second worst. For me personally it would be Insurrection, granted I didn't see it since I was 10. It felt like Shatner had a very interesting idea here that got lost in studio meddling. It feels like Shatner wanted to make a more cerebral story and the studio said "we want less theology - we want comedy, we want action" and what resulted was an interesting film with needless things tacked onto it.

It's silly crap... But in a so bad it's good way. Shatner apparently threw a hissy fit and wanted to write and direct a Trek film after Nimoy knocked it out of the park twice and well... Trek V is the result.
