Meh not really excited about Hemsworth being back as a couple star

Hemsworth is coming back ? :whatever:

So, planet Vulcan survives ?

I am really sad that instead of making more space adventures, they have decided to include time travel.

Let's just wait until we actually know whether there is time travel before we start the negativity and doomsaying.

Did anyone see the movie to know some spoilers?

yea: the *******s from cinemablend are making martyrs of themselves for reporting on the latest TV Spot, which wisely everyone else is diverting attention away from.

I have 2 booked showings with different people but both are for the 2nd weekend. :csad:

Chris's role could be just flashbacks or video logs.

HAYYYYY YOU GUYS DID YOU KNOW THAT CHRIS HEMSWORTH IS COMING BACK? BECAUSE CHRIS HEMSWORTH IS COMING BACK AND YOU KNOW THAT YOU'RE EXCITED ABOUT CHRIS HEMSWORTH COMING BACK BECAUSE THE FIRST MOVIE WAS WHAT MADE CHRIS HEMSWORTH A HOUSEHOLD NAME AND HE'S THE REASON THAT STAR TREK '09 WAS A HIT. CHRIS HEMSWORTH.

Seriously, he was good in his little five minute scene, but who the hell was clamoring for him to come back? I think I've seen every movie news outlet report on this multiple times over the past couple days. It's just kinda strange how they've made such a big deal out of this.

Anyway, I also saw an article that explained that a new TV spot for ST: Beyond spoils some big twist in this movie. I don't know what this twist is as I haven't seen the commercial, but my advice is, avoid any new promos you see for this thing unless you want the movie ruined ahead of time.

Crap, you can't go this weekend?
I hope that changes.
There are previews in some states tomorrow, anything near you?
What about the Thursday night showings?
Time to think outside of the box!

I appreciate the concern dude. ;)

(I'm in UK btw)
The 2 showings are for 2 different birthdays so unfortunately can't change the dates. Going to be short notice now to see with someone else. I could go on my own which I do do for films every now and then, but prefer to do that when a film's been out a while rather than getting jostled solo for seats on opening weekend. I'm quite busy anyway so not the end of the world :yay: but look forward to seeing what everyone thinks in advance of me seeing it.

Say what you will about STID's questionable story choices and their box office, Star Trek has achieved a hat trick and a level of consistent quality that we dont see often these days.

Star Trek 2009 - 95%
Star Trek Into Darkness - 87%
Star Trek Beyond - 93% (so far)

It's sorta like how we view Indiana Jones 4, which has a relatively high RT score of 77. To me, KC should be..65.

I personally think STID should be..like a 75. It's not a bad movie at all, but as a Trek movie...it loses a lot of the fun energy from the first film. It sorta has that Quantum of Solace effect, where it's not inherently bad but some of the creative decisions being made takes a few steps back instead of forward..into darkness!

Most critics didn't share the online reaction to... Well just about everything in STID that ruffled so many feathers.

Its actually 86% so yeah I was wrong.

Gotta love the fanboy internet bubble. Its hated by a chunk of fans so it must be considered bad by the average person.:o

Im pretty sure most critics and the average joe didn't share the fan's reaction to the film. Hell, these films have better audience scores than a number of MCU films. The box office returns might not be great but the people that have watched these new films seem to like them a lot.

Just found out that the score wont be released until July 29. :cmad: I hate when they do this dumb ****.

Say what you want about Into Darkness's script, but god damn, does the cast and JJ make it a fun ride.

I said it was wrong because the movie isn't great or very good, it is in fact bad. I tried watching it again recently and I couldn't even watch it anymore.

It is a fanboy thing, as much as its not a criticism because its Trek, its a criticism for being a bad movie in general. Things are not thought up, things are underdeveloped, overdeveloped, or not developed at all. Common sense is thrown out the window; it violates the show don't tell rule movies have, and in the end, a list of missed opportunities.

Its a list of things that make me not call it Star Trek into Darkness; instead, I call it by its real name: Star Trek into Dumbness.

Good to hear about STB being a good fun and generally harked back to TOS type of show.

As for George Kirk's return in the sequel --it could be any number of things including time travel. In fact, time travel is a sample for Star Trek. There were IIRC:

TOS --
City on the Edge of Forever
All Our Yesterdays
Tomorrow is Yesterday
Assignment Earth

TNG --
Yesterday' Enterprise
Time Squared
Time's Arrow
Tapestry
All Good Things

DS9 --
The Visitor
Little Green Men
Trials and Tribbleations
Past Tense
Visionary
Time's Orphan
Children of Time

Voyager --
Future's End

Enterprise -- lot of time travel episodes
Carpenter Street
Shockwave

And of course, the movie versions --
The Voyage Home
Generations
First Contact
Star Trek (2009)

That is an opinion. Not a fact. An opinion that is very much in the minoriry.

Also RT.com is an aggregator. Its a basic data gathering site. The percentage isnt arbitrary or chosen by the site. Critics submit their reviews and notify RT.com whether the review should be posted as Fresh or Rotten. RT.com then divides the number of fresh reviews by the number of total reviews. That gives them the percentage.

So, no, the 86% isnt wrong. Its basic math. 86% of submitted reviews were Fresh.

It seems to be an unpopular opinion but I really like Into Darkness a whole lot. For myself I don't think it deserves a lot of the flack it gets. But whatever, I enjoy the hell out of it. So far these films have been 2 for 2 in my eyes. And Beyond has me very excited for it to be 3 for 3.
