So Kirk will be forced out of the captain's chair? I hope the movie spends enough time with Kirk as captain, then. That's something I wanted to see in the sequel.

LOL so two movies with little to no time with Kirk as Captain?

georgec, just to point out, in Star Trek 1 through 4 he was still Admiral. He wasn't demoted to Captain again until the end of 4.

One of the most common criticisms of the first film was that he gets to the chair too fast. It seems like he messes up pretty bad and Pike certainly sees him as not being ready for the role.

But he was still in the Captain's chair, or at least in command of the Enterprise or his crew. I think the point is that he doesn't seem to be spending much time just being Captain Kirk with the yellow command shirt as he is in the series, but is spending more time trying to either get into the chair or get back into it as some kind of rogue officer.

Maybe Kirk is going to be like the future version of Ethan Hunt, where almost every movie is about him being disavowed by Starfleet.

This one from the trailers does appear to be a lot darker, as most sequels tend to do. I forgot if it had the Inception "bwong!" in it.

JJ Abrams
"So this movie doesn't require you have seen the first movie. The characters are a group of people who have recently come together and find themselves up against this incredibly terrifying force. His name is John Harrison and he is sort of an average –- that is what makes him so scary –- he is just an average guy who works in an organization called Starfleet, and he turns against the group because he has got this back-story and this kind of amazing secret agenda. After two very violent attacks, one in London and one in the U.S., our characters have to go after this guy and apprehend him. And it is a far more complicated and difficult thing then they ever anticipated. "Into Darkness" is very much about how intense it gets and really what they are up against.

Cumberbatch
John Harrison: "When J.J. described the role to me… he described someone who was, in movie terms, a mixture of Hannibal Lecter, Jack in THE SHINING, and the Joker in BATMAN... He's someone who has enormous physical strength. He's someone who is incredibly dangerous, both as a physical entity and through the use of various technologies and weapons and who performs acts of what I would describe as terrorism. He's also a psychological master. He manipulates the minds of those around him to do his bidding in a very, very subtle way."

At least they admit the Joker connection. Now we don't have to worry about that.

Dear god Alice Eve is so gorgeous.

She's no Saldana. :o

Okay, so we've got Kirk apparently stripped of rank, implicitly alongside Spock, Uhura, and most of the rest of the main cast, and running around out of uniform.

Just to point this out, this probably means that while our villain Harrison will be wearing his black uniform still bearing the starfleet insignia while working to subvert and destroy them, Kirk will be working for starfleet's interests and to preserve them while wearing everyday clothes.

Got to love that symbolism.

And it looks like if there is any augmentation of Harrison at all, it appears to be post break with Starfleet. Ought to be fun to see.

Just worried about Saldana being anorexic. I mean I hope she isn't. But I prefer some curves like Alice Eve.

Zoe needs to go on the Shatner System diet plan. She'll have round hips and pendulous, oily breasts in no time.

I love them both, beautiful girls, although I do worry about Zoe's figure sometimes , she seems to be getting thinner.

sorry but Saldana is BUTT... she needs to eat more and in some of her recent films like COlumbiana and Hupti losers, she sucks... she was just so bone thin, unhealthy looking and didn't look hot... cute yes, but certainly not hot at all

Have you seen Crossing Over? It'll give you a good idea why.:woot:
